Which MPs represent each party? Would it be an opportunity to oust troublemakers who don't tow the line?
representing a constituency or being on the party list?
is it Additional Members system most of them are after? Would it be a regional list one? There are so many problems with it people need to be aware of. It does mean a party has a huge amount of control over candidates. Margo MacDonald the Scottish MSP was in effect deselected by being put fifth of the list. This can be used to politically assasinate backbench dissent, directly from the top. This could be sorted with primaries though, which Cameron was talking about last year.
It creates two teirs of MPs. Some are less accountable to the electorate. They have less work to do and get paid the same.
I prefer single transferable vote - the order of preference one. That's because I think democracy should, in a way, take account of the strength of feeling of voters. I know most people on here probaby won't agree because they are misguided and say you should only vote FOR a party and not AGAINST one...This would also reduce the chances of the BNP getting someone elected. More popular fringe parties such the Greens would make a breakthrough - eg. looooads of left Labour and LibDems would put Green as second or third, and BNP last.
The worst one is Israel's National List; no MPs are directly elected by their allocated constituents.
in terms of how keen people generally are on them - not how keen they are as voting for them as their favourite party.
I'm really a novice when it comes to PR. To the point where I can only surmise each party assigns their quota of MPs roughly to areas of relative strength
I know I want it but I don't know what it is. Like pretty much everything in life. o_O
With an alternative vote system things wouldn't be all that different - there'd still be the constitutional MP, just 2nd, 3rd and 4th choices would come into play. That's the system I'd favour.
Other systems'd work differently obviously.
and then assign them parties based on the proportion of the vote each party gets.
they get all those ex-pornstars and pop singers in the Italian government?
Berlusconi made porn one :'(
