imagine a forced migration. it would be epic.
Pharaoh won't let us leave.
a lot of these points hilariously make them out to be bigger than they actually are.
And some of them are very nearly libelous. Allegations of foul play don't call into question someone's ethics for a start.
Also, who on earth uses loads of apps on facebook? Isn't that just 13 year olds??
I don't really have any 'data' on my FB profile anyway.
who stopped following Graham Linehan's Twitter because you found him too unfunny? :D
Yeah it's an interesting list. It's worth reading the comment responses. He could probably have made 5 really good reasons and then a second 5 of half-decent reasons. As it is, half the stuff on there is only really a top 10 reason if you happen to be a stone-cold moron.
i'm never going back to that loser.
Forgive me if I completely ignore these pointless ramblings and move on.
facebook is a cunt, mainly because there is no longer any private information on facebook anymore. privacy exists between users but companies can interrogate all contents of the facebook servers directly meaning that nothing is private. your future employer can access whatever they like : )
i know that they might not be ethical, but neither is Google, nor Microsoft and sure as hell Apple ain't. And i don't care either. My privacy is something that I keep to my self... and as someone said above, I don't have any "data" on my Facebook. I write on my Blog (which i delinked) and apart from photos and messages that would've been stored elsewhere, I rarely use the shitbucket. I have never played an App or whatever. I dn't sign up for those stupid "view this" bullshit if I am paying attention.
I know how bad Facebook is, and I also know i could probably live without it (and did) easily, but I chose to use it and to be honest I don't care.
it's about your online identity. with a name, one email address, and a facebook account, you usually have enough information to find 90% of a persons online activity, unless a site has genuine privacy settings (twitter doesfor example). the data and contacts you provide on facebook act as a starting point which a potential employer could use to find a whole lot more about you. i know because this is what a friend does when he's looking at job applications.
now sure, if there's nothing vaguely embarressing or incriminating about you anywhere on the web then fine, facebook is your friend, but most people aren't in that position.
it takes about 2 minutes to move from your facebook to your blog and from there to your posts on DiS. which you're probably entirely fine with, but you must accept that plenty of people won't be ok with this and facebooks 'privacy' settings give the illusion of actual privacy where none exists.
"Essentially, they see their customers as unpaid employees for crowd-sourcing ad-targeting data"
So is he also going to stop using Google and EVERY WEBSITE ON THE INTERNET?
ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND close window
What a crock of bollocks
Their last step of removing all your favourites information (TV programmes, films, etc), and replacing them with best fit links is just really annoying, taking out all my cleverly written patter and formatting and adding some links to programmes I've never even heard of.
The more and more it's become like that, the less I've used it. I pretty much use it as an alternative email service with a couple of groups of friends, or from checking up from people from school and bemoaning or laughing at their success relative to me.
imagining a guy, in a German trench coat, with glasses... bad case of achene... greasy hair... hunched over his pc... one step away from wearing tin foiled hats
i was just about to text you.
