STOP SAYING 'GENUINELY'.
TELL US WHAT YOU ACTUALLY FEEL AND TRUST THAT THE AUDIENCE BUY YOUR SINCERITY.
i've always found him comedically dull yet weirdly fanciable. it's his squidgy face.
i like him when he pretends to be a newsreader or reviews the telly and whatnot
I like him, but the tv review thing is getting a bit old.Maybe he should try something different.
although i've sort of overdosed over the last year
and he now has silly hair
probably think they can do a better job at being cynical than he can.
people dont like it when people get popular. see also:
some other people.
It's fucking shit.
I thought I posted a thread about how fucking shit it was, but I can't find it so maybe I didn't.
but I still had a certain frisson from seeing Chris Kamara on 'proper' telly.
i like Charlie Brooker
Is that what it's called? Something like that.
Konnie huq is a fucking idiot. After he was pumping that bint out of big brother as well... he's got some awful taste in women.
but everyone who tries to speak or write like him including that games guy everyone has a boner over are terrible people and failures
Even when you're being wrong, your logic is inconsistent.
I shake my head at your username.
but er...rubbish backlash.
he should do some restaurant reviews.
Charlie brooker invented cynicism and sarcasm
Zero Punctuation is perfectly enjoyable
You seem conflicted.
it's almost exactly the same delivery and overreliance on weird awkward similies, only in fast forward.
that guy is terrible when he's not doing his thing
Intelligent, cynical guy who can now and again be funny but quite the hippocrite when you think about a lot of the things he says and then his appearances in certain tv programmes.
Is it because he's ugly and then somehow 'genuine'?
I do enjoy his writing in the paper now and again though.
i also found Newswipe very informative and interesting.
I've quite literally never read a column of his, and the only video I've seen was the one about 'how to report the news' or something (which was quite good). You want to be a conversation killer, look blank when someone says to you 'did you see that Brooker column?' or 'that's Charlie Brookeresque'...very effective, even if you feel a bit like an embarrassing dad who is out of touch with the youth.
the show isn't great (although i didn't see last nights) and it feels like his columns have been going through the motions for quite a while....
but he's still capable of some really good stuff.
this for example
a perfect articulation of why it's such a great show
and newswipe is the only thing doing what newswipe does on mainstream telly, and it's capable of being a genuine eye opener.
i think the hate isn't really particular to him....many really like him, so in turn there will be plenty of haters...the way it always goes.
he's not some sort of cultural messiah and may very well be a bit of a dick in real life, but he's certainly not without merit.
if he was some unknown no-mark on some obscure american blog, you can be assured that a lot of the haters would be the first to post a link of his latest piece on their twitter.
without being accused of it 'just because he got popular' or being 'part of the backlash'.
Do you guys assume that everyone was joined in consensual praise for this guy when he was less well known?
I've always thought he tried too hard. Too much bad language, too much silly aggression. I know it caters for a different audience, but I've always preferred the Harry Hill approach. I don't think there's any need to make TV criticism all grown-up and hard-hitting and 'take-no-prisoners'. Urgh.
I quite like him now
I dislike his writing.
Twas pretty good.
I think he's brilliant at what he does but I can see why people might not like him. However, these people are idiots.
Screenwipe > Screenburn > You Have Been Watching > Newswipe > His weekly G2 column.
Its actually quite cringeworthy.
IS Dan Ashcroft... yesterday's debut of the Geek Pie attests thus!
a book of his in oxfam a while back that compiled lots of his TVGoHome listings, he really was utterly savage back in the day and not surprising that chris morris picked up on it. Of course he's not as angry any more he's older, sure the money helps too..
Still a fan though, looking forward to his turn on Grumpy Old Men in about five years time.
