I watched Wrestlemania 17 (2001) for the first time the other weekend and it was very good. That gets my vote.
WMIX - including the infamous two doinks vs crush
with the amazing payoff
The Royal Rumble was awesome. Cactus Jack vs Triple HHH street fight followed by The Rock winning the Rumble.
But in terms of main event, Backlash 2001, when The Rock beat Triple H for the the title after Stone Cold returned and laid the smack down. I was marking out like anything. Incredible
Incredible table match between the Hardys and the Dudleys too. Swanton Bomb off the stage set and all that.
(and to a lesser extent the Undertaker) at the top of their game was the best there will ever be.
I think that's spot on. In particular, Angle's ascendancy and his conflict with Hunter was just utterly fantastic - Angle remains my favourite wrestler. I met him in LAX and just about managed a 'you're awesome'. I got a hi-5. My hand's still warm years later :-D
I watched it on Monday so I should know. I thought it was really good but the Miss Rumble segment was very embarrassing.
I got every pay-per-view from the year 2000 the other week. I'm watching them in order.
what was the name of the septugenarian woman who got her heinous weather-beaten boobs out? She also later gave birth to a human hand after having sex with "Chocolate Love" Mark Henry if I remember correctly.
Wish you hadn't reminded me of that.
Supposedly her getting her boobs out was the main reason Channel Four stopped showing wrestling.
They had some kind of big 'X' across the screen when it happened but that didn't help at all. Oh Jesus, they were awful.
Quite why they thought this ploy was a good idea, I'll never know. I seem to remember this was the end of the short-lived boob-centric phase of the WWF though.
Not even Vince McMahon during the Attitude era would give the green light for a pensioner to flash her mangled norks on live PPV.
It's possible that strapping rubber tits to a pensioner is more disturbing.
rick flair second in and goes on to win it. Hogan has a hissy fit. woo!
the Shawn vs Davey Boy royal rumble no.1
or No Way Out 2009.
...but the one with the 6 man Hell in a Cell with The Rock, HHH, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Rikishi and The Undertaker was my particular favourite.
Though Royal Rumbles from around that era were great, and the Undertaker v Mankind Hell in a Cell were also top highlights!
In Foley's autobiography, he can't remember anything, so Undertaker has told him what happened. Foley needed a big hit to save his career and throughout the match Taker was saying to him "Mick, why are you doing this, let's put it to bed and go home" and him going "no, let's keep going". Horrible.
The bit that I like is when The Undertaker choke slams Terry Funk and his over-sized, really white trainers come flying off.
Shitty ending aside, Shawn is godlike in this and plays the heel role to perfection. The mid-air bladejob is crazy, too.
interested in buying 50 video's from this period? I'm pretty sure all the ones you've mentioned are in there.
Not even charity shops will take them for free.
Well if anyone interested send me a PM.
For me, Wrestlemania XVII (sorry, but I refuse to use 'X-7') will always be the daddy. They're not going to top that one any time soon.
Honourable mentions go to Wrestlemania X, Royal Rumble '92, One Night Stand '05 and, in no small part thanks to the white-hot main event, In Your House: Canadian Stampede.
Wrestlmania IX was utter dogshit though.Same goes for WM II and WM XI.
Great call on all of these - I'd probably add Summerslam 98 to that list too, if only for the Rock/Trips ladder match.
Also, despite it being overall a bit "meh", I'd recommend In Your House: Break Down from late 98 just for the Rock/Foley/Shamrock triple threat cage match where Rocky gets the biggest pop ever heard even though he was meant to be top heel at the time.
I miss 'Awesome' Mike Awesome.
"Suicide dive by Mike Awesome - and it's a shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life". Oh, Joey :-(
Heyman - what a guy...
Judgment Day 2000 being pretty awesome. Triple H / Rock Iron Man Match was intense.
I mostly just wanted to post this
Fantastic from start to finish.
