1/3 = 0.33333
2/3 = 0.66666
3/3 = 0.99999
therefore, 1 = 0.9
your mind = blown.
what with recurring numbers and all that.
(we had this problem about splitting £1000 rent between 3. what to do?!)
and get over the penny?
'I Shall Pay The Extra Pound a Month' and bask in their collective guilt and shame of not thinking of it first.
but i can't I JUST CAN'T
he said 0.9
But I'm taking that as a typo because his working shows that he's trying to say 1=0.999... rather than 0.9
1 = 0.999... not 1= 0.9 obviously
2/3 is 0.6666666667
add this to 0.3333333333
basically .6 would get rounded to .7
there's no 7. only an infinite 6
2/3 = 0.6666666667
is more correct than
2/3 = 0.6666666666666
Not as correct as
if no number exists between two real numbers then they are the same number. 0.999... is infinately repeating. Therefore nothing can exist between it and 1. Therefore 1 = 0.999...
0.999... is the exact same number, not just a number you would round up, as one
I heard that decimals can never properly represent infinite figures, so when you say 0.9999... = 1, you mean its a value approaching 1 as a limit.
Im not a mathematician, so that might be bullshit
not done anything like this in years so i could just be throwing out words that sound vaguely relevant, even tho im kinda aware of what i mean. fuck no i wont use google
infinity + infinity = infinity BUT
infinity - infinity = ANYTHING
but it IS snowing on albert square. heh.

I can just imagine him doing one of those loud exhaling of breath sighs that he always does and then legging it down the road.
