Seems to be about one funny joke to ten mediocre ones.
The actress who plays Robin is quite attractive though.
but on the whole it's a bit meh. It's like a less funny Friends where they drink alcohol instead of coffee.
but I think HIMYM is a lot more naturalistic. They tend to talk more like real people - acknowlegding their crap jokes and so on. Also, the long-running gags, like the slap-bet and Robin's pop career, are superb.
still haven't seen a hilarious, laugh-out-loud funny "Ross' sandwich" or "Ross' leather pants" (they all involve Ross apparently) type scene in it.
I think it feels utterly contrived. Every episode is based around some WHACKY gimmick: the search for the greatest burger, Barney trying to track down his stalker, etc. Whereas Friends is just a snapshot into the lives of six people. Curse the writers' ability to write consistently funny jokes for their cast, hey.
I watch HIMYM, but I'm really not sure why anymore. I used to think it got away with not being very funny by nonetheless being a comforting watch, but now all I can think about is how contrived its scenarios are and how bad an actress Alyson Hannigan is. I'm going to stop.
wasn't it you i had an argument with about how HIMYM wasn't funny? does this mean i won?
Big Bang Theory is still hilarious. Did you see the episode the other week where they all got stoned? Omg :')
but i think the underlying group dynamic the events and experiences of 20 somethings ring true
Mainly for Neil Patrick Harris, sure, but I think it's all round a cut above your average sitcom.
It's not really LOL funny, but it's a heck of a lot better than a lot of so called sitcoms and a decent way to avoid Eastenders.
That said....it's Shakespeare compared to that bloody awful 'Two Guys and a Girl' thing that has come on recently. It's like Friends, but with half the cast and one hundredth of the gags.
It's also really old.
It's rubbish though.
Truly terrible...landfill sitcom. The Northern Uproar of the cathode ray.
Alyson Hannigan (Lily) is 36 in a couple of weeks.
Cobie Smulders (Robyn) is 28 in a couple of weeks.
I thought Robyn was older than Lily.
like two and a half men....its sofa tv. It is quite funny though but only Barney and the guy who was in forgetting sarah marshall.
I'll give it that. Two and a Half Men is godawful.
and Everybody Loves Raymond
they don't tend to follow a story that you'd have to catch up on so they're easy to just watch now and then....
Everybody Loves Raymond is awful. I can't stand that guy.
Unless there's a hitherto unseen episode where he finally tells his mother to fuck off.
Sure, it's a one trick pony. But, what a pony.
Come on, there's at least three different jokes.
but i'm enjoying the new series but it's not the best thing ever. we watch it while we eat. it's good eating TV.
the format allows for occassional slight experimentalism, the barney character always prevents it from being too schmultzy, some good music and references. its way better than frazier or seinfeld
i admitted to myself the other week that i quite like it
