what do you do for mothers' day?
it's mrs ccb's first mothers' day as a mum next weekend. obvs the little'un is too young to clumsily make her a cup of tea and bacon sandwich, so i was thinking of doing something on the little'un's behalf. at the very least, breakfast in bed, but then i'm not really sure what else. (my own mum died a long time ago so it's been ages since i've had any reason to commemorate this day).
do you do anything? or are you all "boo hoo it's all a load of commercialised rubbish etc etc etc"? thank you!
hmmm
Mr S normally buys me a card and a present...if you can somehow get the baby (sorry can't remember if boy or girl!) to make a card...ie. put a handprint on a bit of card and fold it that's always good, cheap too!
breakfast in bed is lovely idea but with these two punks it'd end in carnage so I am just happy for him to take them for quality cbeebies/me sleeping time :)
flowers are always brilliant to receive, as is being made food...
plus chocs
also make a cake, you can get the little one to put stuff in, try to stir etc (also as long as there arnt any eggs in it at that point, let them put their hands in it.......later on stick some candles on the cake....it should be a gooey one, the little one will enjoy the cake just as much as the mum (possibly)
(we ended up just singing 'happy birthday to cake' when there was no other excuse
"as long as there arnt any eggs in it at that point"
Why's that?
loads of kids seem to be allergic to raw eggs
and come out in a massive rash. I never managed to learn not to eat all the cake mixture when i was a kid
i guess because raw eggs are always a bit risky re: food poisoning / salmonella
and babies/toddlers are fond of putting their fingers in their mouths.
i like the idea of the baby/handprint thing!
breakfast in bed should be okay as long as it's not anything too complicated and i can stop every 30 seconds to stop the baby crawling off the bed - i can give her some lie-in time whilst i prepare it.
First mothers day I did
I bought this incredibly cute and lovely card from my daughter to my wife. However, I hadn't read the message inside that said 'You're Like A Mother To Me'. Hmmm.
Other than that, chocs, flowers, a nice meal, give her some R & R time etc.
that card message is brilliant
I await the results of this thread with anticipation. As I am in the same boat.
Well sort of, its Mrs Ronco's second mothersday but last year didn't really count as the little un was a month old.
