I was just about to do this. Amazing stuff.
Can only echo your words.
next month's World T20 in the W.I., is that a full on World Cup again or just a funky name for a shitty tournament?
And yes, Eoin Morgan.
I've looked it up now and it is. That's not much time between WCs, not that I'm complaing, they're pretty good fun and it means we should have another in this country in a couple of year's time.
which to my mind is pretty much a nonsense. i know twenty20 is a long way from serious but a world tournament every year is madness. just because cricket has finally found a format that can be compressed into a sensible length of time doesn't me we need an annual world cup. no other sport does that.
and yes, morgan is way too classy to be playing in the english team. the fact that he missed aknowledging his maiden hundred for england because he was focusing on the runs needed for the win. awesome.
we'll be completely saturated with T20 cricket and it'll lose its appeal. For me at least. It's a great concept, a great evening out but shouldn't be whored out at every opportunity.
I guess I haven't had that much exposure to it though. Only really last year's IPL - that got a bit stale towards the end.
i think twenty20 is the logical place for club cricket to really thrive and is to small a theatre to really hold the potential of international cricket. an international T20 tournament could be the device that levels up the club level games around the world. if managed properly. massive fucking if.
i means something like the IPL Champions league, expanded and hosted in a different country every year. it would offer the poorer cricket boards like South Africa, West Indies and Sri Lanka a way to improve their club games and to keep their players rather than have them kolpaking in england. it would also force england to streamline it's county game. we have so much talent in england but it's getting lost across 18 counties. we need our own premier league and its the only way we're going to be able to compete in the champions league...
particularly with regards to the county system. I'd like to see a system above the County Championship that was say 6 regions in a much smaller elite championship made up of the best players from the County game.
London - Surrey, Middx, Essex
South - Hants, Sussex, Kent
West - Somerset, Gloucs, Glamorgan
West Mids - Warwicks, Worcs, Northants
East Mids - Notts, Leics, Derbyshire
North - Notts, Yorks, Durham
this is looking more at raising standards in the 4 day game than the 1 day / T20 game.
it excludes Lancashire
Sorry, instead of Notts up North...
When I was in Year 12 at my school, we played a friendly against London Schools. They had flown over this tiny Irish left-hander with ginger hair (guess who?) who was supposed be really tasty, for a trial. There was a few scouts in.
I came on to bowl my off-breaks around the wicket to him, and, when he was on 8, he sliced one straight into the hands of backward point (my friend Sam) who promptly dropped him.
He went to make 160 not out, including taking me for 24 off one over, and my friend Charlie for 33 (5 straight sixes over leg and then a crashing cover drive for 3, because Charlie had bowled about two foot outside off to avoid being hoiked over leg again).
Oh, what could have been....
Yes, Wow, in response to the OP. He's something else.
And part of an England team which could potentially have a majority of non-English in the not-too-distant:
and the way Pietersen's going it's possible he won't be in the team much longer
against Bangladesh. sure he's one of our best players, but come on guys...
but it feels to me like he's played more than his fair share of match winning innings for us since coming into the side. i'd say that he and colly are our two best one day players at the moment.
AND he holds the English record for highest international T20 score. OF ALL TIME.
Just thought i'd throw a few facts your way.
