i.e. a published book, I don't care too much about your personal diary scrawlings that will be recovered after you die and published to huge critical acclaim.

That aside, I am interested to know. What proportion of the population have had books published? 1 person in every ten thousand maybe? Maybe I should include other serious things like short stories, journal articles etc. Can be academic, fiction, trivial, whatever.

If the answer is no, who has genuine and realistic aspirations to do so?
