Football Thread of a Friday
As the arse falls out of Notts County’s world, Peter Trembling wanders off to find another cloud to play with his cuckoo on. Sven hotfoots it out of there too leaving the club £1.5million in debt, now owned by a man who was forced out at Lincoln City and with the man who oversaw and was complicit in Boston’s very shady promotion to the football league installed as chairman. Jim Rodwell that is. This one will run and run. Expect Kasper, Ade and co to be on their way very shortly.
In better news for Sven, he is being linked with the Nigeria and North Korea jobs.
Chester’s future will be resolved next week after the club requested a personal hearing into their two postponements against Forest Green and Wrexham. Quite what they’re hoping to achieve I have no idea, the Conference really ought to put them out of their misery.
Hendon v Wealdstone tomorrow. I love and hate these games in equal measure. I love having an atmosphere and the slightly spiky nature of things, but I hate always losing by 3 goals at home to ‘that mob’. A win for us (very unlikely) will take us to within a point of our illustrious, yet ‘poor’ neighbours.
Elsewhere, it’s FA Cup weekend. Southampton will be looking to hand Pompey a hiding. Cardiff travel to Chelsea. Other teams are involved too, I can’t for the life of me remember who, why or when. Except Notts County??
Ashley Cole’s World Cup dreams are in tatters. Like, love or loathe the bloke, he is on current form one of the best left backs around. Does Fabio risk taking him half fit or look to Bridge, Lescott, Warnock or Baines?
Avram Grant is charged for firing a broadside at the ref the other day. I love Avram.
Sepp Blatter has hit back at critics of South Africa’s hosting of the World Cup citing ‘anti-Africa’ prejudice. Hmmm.
Steven Pressley becomes new boss at Falkirk, taking over from Eddie May
Kevin Davies is asked to explain comments made about Mark Clattenburg after claiming the official victimises him.
Stephen Ireland blames his dip in form on Mark Hughes playing him out of position.
Paladini could be leaving QPR soon. Woo!
What will you be watching this weekend?
