Anyone been following this?
I'd heard George Lee was elected, and it sounded interesting, he's always struck me as a pretty smart guy, and especially with the state of the economy, I thought it was good to get someone from outside of the general politics, and a specialist, in to challenge and try and get the country out of the mess it was in.
What were his reasons for resigning? Disillusionment at the whole system? Did he also resign his seat?
Strikes me as a kind of "well you never asked ME" kind of argument.
He seems to have been naive enough to have signed up to run for FG without any agreement as to what role he would play in the party, and then got arsey when it turned out that the world doesn't revolve around him... Undoubtedly, he's a smart guy, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence that he actually *tried* to do anything. Seems like he sat on his arse for 9 months waiting to be asked to come save us...
when he was running for the seat, that it would have been one of the first things the consitituents would have asked, "S'all well and good the economy, but what are you going to do about the potholes on my street?"
Was he cut out to be a proper Dail member, while working on the economy, also remember he had a commitment to represent those who elected him.
Has he gone back to RTE now too?
Also goes to show FG don't really have a clue, I was surprised when I heard he'd signed up with them, it was certainly a coup, he had a bit of profile, but if they didn't even bother to involve him in an area in which he was an expert, they really missed an opportunity, to stick it to FF, on the topic that will be the most contensious in the next election, they could have won it handsomely on the strength of their economic policies alone.
I should add I'm not living in Ireland anymore, so my knowledge on the day to day stuff is a bit patchy.
