were they cousins, or second cousins? someone enlightened please explain this to me.
milk and two sugars please.
is close to where Mary Queen of Scots was captured. Hurrah! In your face the Scots!
I think her Mam was Henry VIII's sister
if that's the case then it's first cousins once removed (I think).
mary queen of scot's grandma was margaret tudor, who was sister of henry viii. and elizabeth was henry's daughter. so... does that make mary elizabeth's aunt? or what?

you didnt want to hear a coffee annan joke anyway did you?
milk and 2 sugars please.
Elizabeth was James the v's cousin.(who was mary's dad) Is that the definition of 2nd cousin these days?
ie. a generation older than you, or conversely your cousin's child. If Elizabeth had had a child, it would have been second cousins with Mary.
she would appear to be her 2nd cousin once removed. quite hard to work out from that, but as far as i can see she is elizabeth I's cousins daughter.
2nd cousin once removed. do i need to go and find that info for you as well?
what does it matter
You know, Elizabeth was so threatened by Mary's beauty that she refused to ever meet her.
You should read the Shardlake books by CJ Samson. The third one talks about Henry's ancestors.
Anyway, Elizabeth I had that great speech about having the heart and stomach of a concrete elephant so she was clearly the best.
CAN someone sort this out? I don't have time.
people often just say 1st cousin. Stil wrong but, like I said, I don't have time to correct it.
1st cousin, once removed to Elizabeth.
but you're still WRONG. so I'm RIGHT. OK!?
i just like to disagree with theo.
reminds me of the time my mate sent the text, "can we be kissing cousins?" to my cousin, from my phone.
"After an unsuccessful attempt to regain the throne, Mary fled to England seeking protection from her first cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, whose kingdom she hoped to inherit."
"After an unsuccessful attempt to regain the throne, Mary fled to England seeking protection from her first cousin, ONCE REMOVED, Queen Elizabeth I, whose kingdom she hoped to inherit."
Even if they were third cousins twice removed the text would still be correct and since it's an overview it makes sense to keep it simple.
but i wouldnt call my 3rd cousins my cousins. would you?
It makes life easier.
cos they're not.
