Am I missing something here or is this "OMG a black Disney Princess" thing just a load of bollox playing on the (mostly) nonsense anti-Disney internet rumours? I'm no Disney fan, but http://www.snopes.com/disney/disney.asp puts alot of spurious accusations to bed.

I like the way she seemingly thinks Skins is a documentary. I've never heard of her before, and now I have, which is a shame I guess.

No-one will mourn the passing of newspapers in their current format if they continue to subsidise these torrents of guff.
Or will you mourn the passing of NEWSpapers. Newspapers now are just style guides with a few opinion pieces sprinkled throughout*.
Today's newspapers and not the home of investigative or news-breaking journalism.
I'd be happy to see them cruble so that we can move on.
*Brooker mentioned this on newswipe the other week. I don't want to bumlick CB too much, but he's quite good at stating what (to some, i.e us) is the bleeding obvious in plain terms that will resonate to those who might have broadly picked up on the theme but who have not not yet been able to crystalise it in their mind or sum it up in a nutshell. Brooker doing this will then allow the perceptions to filter down and eventually, hopefully, the truth will become accepted amongst the wider populace.
...So yeah, newspapers. They're pretty shit these days, on the whole, eh?
The Guardian needs Brooker more than he needs tham.
No-one's claiming CB is hard-hitting journalism, but at least he's mostly relatively original, and frequently brave enough to come out with a coherent argument for something that he believes in. He doesn't come across as being overly afraid to bite the hand that feeds.
OTOH, Barbara Ellen and her ilk have been getting away with sprouting any old wordcount filling simpering faux middle class mumsy angst for way too long.

I remember when you used to work at the NME and wrote really interesting and perceptive pieces on bands and music (you're feature on the Manic Street Preachers as they fell apart in Bangkok is an all time classic), and the fact that you've degenerated into this tedious middle class wittering about your kids and stuff you've seen on the telly or read on the internet really depresses me. John Harris has shown that it's perfectly possible for music journalists to reinvent themselves as serious writers while Caitlain Moran in the Times does a far better job of this "rock chick turns into suburban mum" type thing that you've got going on. She's even funny occasionally. You on the other hand just suck, week after week after week. If I was you I'd take some time out from the writing business and work out what exactly you want to do with the rest of your career, rather than carry on ruining you reputation with this sort of sub par drivel.'

It seems she has a personal gripe with the book/Salinger's work. What annoyed me most was the ridiculous speculation about his private life, that he was forced into being a recluse because of his 'odious' personality. He's one of the few people who have shunned celebrity yet he still gets grief. He made a deliberate choice to keep out of the public eye. Incredible.
It makes a hacks job very difficult when they spend their lives in the wilderness.
Tear into a 'public figure' if they have a life or personality you don't see eye to eye with and choose to flaunt themselves to some degree (Moir & Gately).
