which order should i eat them in?
I NEED TO MORE NON-FRUIT APPLES. JOKE SOS.
I think that's a Crowded House song. Either way - fruit madness.
If so - what are they? This will help you...
we get given fruit at work on thursdays. i thin k they do tests on them or something and giveaway the rest (it's a defra thing) i also got a mouli, a pomegranite, 12 lemons, some oranges, a kos lettuce and an iceberg one, some grapes, some strawberries, and that might be it, but most of it is at home now, and i just need to know where to start on my apples.
Or are they other varieties of dessert apples which all just so happen to have a bit of russeting? Either way, sounds like you're on to a winner. Egremont Russet's are a fine variety but they are disgusting from a supermarket. Really nice nutty flavour but they do not travel and store well.
I hope they are from a decent stockist. If so you're in a for a treat and I would eat them all. In order of firmness going from softest to hardest because the hardest will be the best. A good firm russet is endlessly rewarding.
i'm not not sure exactly what they are, but they are reasonably sized, and have a good firmness, and are almost completely russetted. I think it's an Egremont. the first one was was delicious.
...they are far and away the most common after all.
I prefer them a bit on the small side. I think the worst thing a russet can be is perfectly dry inside. A firm exterior, a sharp crunch and a little dribble of moisture inside... now that's good eatin'!
This has made me want to go to a farmers market and pick up some vintage apples now! Unfortunately, we are almost out of season... :(
Let us know how you like them apples.
In a particular order, thanks.
