Anyway, they unveil it soon. Are you stoked for it...whatever it is? Sounds quite interesting.
Yeah, sure it'll be a tablet, but with a difference. Kind of a cross between a tablet and an iPhone (slash iPod touch) and a Kindle. It might have the capacity to record handwritten notes, etc., but I don't think that will be a central feature.
The difference will come from the existence of the App store. Basically, the iPhone + App Store has made widget-style apps mainstream. There's a whole pro-am culture of app designing, coding, etc. now and the App Store has been cemented as a key distribution mechanism. Apple releasing a tablet-style, app-driven computer is just the next logical step.
Yes, the word "app" is fucking annoying, but wachagonnado.
If it's a big iPhone it'll be ok for web browsing, some types of games and image watching but ultimately no use as a functioning computer.
More of a plaything maybe than a replacement for a macbook?
Entertainment device, rather than a work computer.
You only need all the stuff that a desktop/laptop can provide (including a hardware keyboard) for work stuff mostly — writing, designing, coding, accounting, recording, editing, etc., etc.
The iSlate will be for all the fun stuff. So long as it includes a decent browser (featuring the capacity to play flash files and open/play different av media formats) and the capacity to store and run apps which allow you to watch/listen to media, play games and do some of the GPS-based things that the iPhone does, it's all you really need if you're not using it for work purposes.
ugly though it is:
And at $490 that's looking at half the suggested iSlate price.
Basically by 2012 we should have some really cool shit to buy and by then I should be in a position for some good upgrading! :D
