Careers advice/ideas... please

thescarydoor [Edit] [Delete] 16:15, 17 January '10

I'm a sociology graduate (graduated in summer '08 with a 2:1) from Sheffield University and am currently working as a cleaner (for same Uni as it happens). The job is alright for now but it's not what I want to be doing long-term. The trouble is that I don't really know what it is that I want to be doing and am currently looking at my options in the hope that once the job market picks up I might be able to get my life properly on track.

When I was at school I did some part-time shop work but I don't really have any other experience. I'm currently doing a little bit of music writing for a website but it's not something that I'm good enough at to do professionally and in the past I've also done some (volunteer) work as a lighting technician/general dogsbody at gigs and club nights - but again it's not something I could get a career out of.

So basically I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I might look into, or if there's any sociology graduates on here, what they've gone on to do after Uni. Hell, if there's anyone who knows of any decent jobs going in Sheffield (I don't drive and can't move) then that'd be great too.

Cheers
