The funniest thing ever to grace our TV screens. Discuss.
So I've started watching from the very beginning - I'm about 3 episodes in, and it's brilliant!
I still prefer 30 Rock, but that might just be because I've watched every episode of that so far.. although my favourite ones are those with Banks, who plays the magician brother in AD..
You realise how much stuff that happened later is either set up very early in the series or simply amusingly flagged in a very subtle way.
They understand Chekov's Gun but also realise you can do it very subtly.
I'm downloading as I go, but I might invest in the box set once I've moved to my new place. I definitely get the feeling it's something that I'll watch multiple times..
Someone once posted on a forum they didn't do that as they didn't want to spoil the next episode, not realising they were just finishing the jokes from the current episode. :D
Yeah I was wondering when I watched the 'next time on' on the last episode, it was just extra punchlines and I thought surely the next episode would either be rubbish OR they've given away all the jokes. ROFL and - indeed - MAO.
few shows reward repeat viewing as much as Arrested does. Foreshadowing gags and the like (see all the references to seals, the army, hooks and suchlike before Buster looses his hand).
Is that even happening or did I dream it?
I know some people said Michael Cera was holding it back from happening, but I get the feeling that's somewhat exaggerated. I'd rather it never happens anyway.
I rewatched every episode over christmas, and decided it's up there, if not above The Office on the funny-o-meter.
I wish I was Will Arnett.
Literally on ep 5 or 6 of season 1. Am not convinced of it's genius so far, but then again, I hated the Ramones (and the Stooges) first time I heard them, so I'm willing to let it run til the end of season 1.
Number 1? I don't think it's as good as Seinfeld, Phil Silvers Show or Partridge. Or Larry Sanders/Father Ted/Simpsons at their very very best
And let down by a weak third series.
Why do I feel the need to rank things all the time? It's fucking brilliant. There.
It's funny but not THAT funny and there are some definite slumps during each series and the less said about series three the better.
Especially as there hasn't been a funny cartoon ever.
The reason why it's so talked up is because it's fantastic.
Just beats office, curb and in the loop for me.
I mean the thick of it
The boxset is really cheap right now. £17.98
My brother sent over a boxset from the US, I started to watch it, became hooked and then ordered the 2nd series. I never do this.
What i love about it is that all the characters are funny and hold their own. Usually there's at least a couple of rubbish ones, but not in AD. Refreshingly the female characters are actually great.
I think one of my favourite lines is when Lucille shouts at Lupe the Mexican maid:
"Lupe, that coat cost more than your house!"
