Weren't friday and saturday were the christmas bank holidays?
if it's a BACS payment they still go through, because they're automatic.
so whenever 26th December falls on a Saturday or Sunday, they make the Monday a Bank Holiday
Good Friday and Easter Monday are I think
The 28th was important to me because it gave me something to bargain with - I said i'd do today if they gave me boxing day and new years day off. So, I still had to do today, but if today wasn't a 'holiday' I'd have ended up having to do one of those as well.
i do because my job is "essential services".
i get three extra days off to use at my leisure though.
you get christmas day off, boxing day (or boxing day bankholiday monday if boxing day is at the weekend) then new years day, all the rest are work days
I work in the financial industry.
Banks not on holiday = me not on holiday.
today being a bank holiday meant saturday should have just been a normal saturday but it wasn't trains weren't on, some shops were closed, christmas ruined my weekend
i feel like things have been closed for WEEKS but really it's been about 4 days.
and the BANK was open today. weird huh?
but after one day of christmas I come down with cabin fever, drive to town on boxing day determined to go out only for it to be completely deserted because of the lack of trains, new years day wipes out next friday too, they should make christmas move like easter, it should always be on a sunday so it doesnt clash with good days of the week
totally this. it's so stupid. time is stupid, christmas is stupid, bank holidays are stupid, the whole freakin' thing is stupid.
I LOVE HOW NO ONE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE BANKS WHEN IT'S A BANK HOLIDAY.
that ya'll in the UK have pubs open on Xmas day but here in ireland we don't. I know some of the reasons sure but it still seems weird. When I lived in London I never dreamt of the pub being open at all.
You get to see many people and wish them festive happies/compare jumpers without having to invite them around, cook spring rolls, wash up glasses etc.
