it's awesome and everything, and it looks brilliant and i can see how eisner is this influential beyemoth... but to be honest im having trouble getting past the pretty racist portryal of the black characters... his sidekick ebony white (ffs) looks like this

and although the stories are great, everytime i see that it just puts me off my stride, and obviously as its a visual thing its hard to just ignore.

i was reading earlier that letting it take away from the influence of eisner or the brilliance of the spirit is equivalent from doing the same with something by mark twain, and i realise it's a product of his time, but the sidekick looks like a monkey for fucks sake.

anyone read the spirit and had the same trouble?
