'A posse gathered outside the Court House waiting for the victim who had to let out a side door and spirited away in a sqad car'.
We've all got a long way to go yet when it comes to stopping blaming the victim, I fear.
but society in general.
'She's being snubbed, sneered at and being refused service in a number of businesses.'
- repealed a law which said that if a womans jeans were tight then a rape conviction couldnt be carried because the woman would have had to help the man take the trousers off and so must have consented.
the rest of the article was equally as alarming, a huge number of poeple still blame the victims.
Their courts are populated by old men who take the Bible literally.
My friend's girlfriend loves Italy and pretends to be 50% Italian. She wanted to move there last year so I showed her the article by way of warning and she flipped out.
Has anyone got access to the page in question?
it was full of threats against the victim, apparently
What's worse is that they revel in this.
Did she send that to the judge?
"Sorry, your job application was not succesful."
Has recently tightened her facebook settings, too, it would seem (no picture, second name, or link on name).
She has mentions all over http://www.politics.ie/munster/120744-dozens-sympathise-kerry-sex-offender.html
but her pic is there and second name. facebook is gone mad
when facebook lockdown away from the outside world in the first place seems like a good option.
But I'm thinking that I can't be sure what some of my distant fb (ex-school)friends might come out with.
Not sure how pleased I'd be about friends lists and other fb tentacles linking me with shenanigans like this, or even something more simple & innocuous.
I deleted a distant ex-'friend' as soon as his membership of a pro-BNP group popped up. They can get involved with that, by all means, but I'm keeping my distance.
The internet is a massive echo chamber and amplifies things like this.
We dont know the fucking background.
People may have been sceptical of the verdict because the girl has cried wolf before.
it was caught on cctv
he claimed he just found her there. thats suspicious enough, bumbler, no?
Yeah. That's bang out of order.
I'm something of a pioneer
but you're way off here.
It's notoriously difficult to secure a conviction in a rape case - and it's pretty much impossible if the victim has "cried wolf" in the past.
The judge himself said he was disgusted and astonished that the rapist in question asked for leniency on the one hand (a tacit admission of guilt) without actually apologizing in any way to the girl in question.
Frankly, the fact that a mostly-male congregation gathered to shake his hand and hug him while a posse formed outside - intentions unknown - to wait for the girl should pretty much show what it is we're all dismayed about - the automatic blame accorded to the victim rather than the perp.
Surely the judge, police and prosecutors know the background - which they used to determine the man's guilt and consequently put him in jail.
And of course, there's also the statement the man gave to the police in which he claimed he just found the girl lying by the skip - and the CCTV footage that shows him leading her out of the club and carrying her to the site of the assault some time beforehand.
In Liberal Socialist Nightmare London, we call that a smoking gun.
Recognise reference. Feel shame.
' These people who hugged this man should be charged with crimes of ignorance and stupidity !!! '
