about this decade
Bollocks. That's only going to get worse. This decade will seem cosy in comparison. Like a Sid James tea tray.
It will be taught in schools in the same way that Shakespeare plays are taught now.
Western civilization in it's twilight hours.
Moral ground zero - 9/11 and the WoT proving that the line between good and evil is blurry as fuck.
Celebrity culture - Western civilization in it's TH.
General apathy post-2005.
Reawakening of religious fundamentalism.
2008 US election = final fundamental divide between Right and Left
Western civilisation in it's twilight is silly, America's hegemony will not be displaced in decades. Secondly, Ideological conflicts are more complex and deeper than a General Election, there are conflicts all across the globe, in which the foundations are based on ideological differences.
and I disagree with the dude on just about everything.
hello internet, anyone can be famous.
arctic monkeys debut, MJ popping his clogs, oasis splitting up, in rainbows crrrazy pay what you like scheme...can't think of anymore off the top of my head.
Why bother remembering when it's all been digitally logged and will be available on demand.
I don't even know my landline phone number (lived here for 3 years) or the number plate of my car (I've had it for a year).
2010 will probably be the first year I don't bother buying a diary. Everything's either in my gmail account, has been posted on facebook, or tagged & bookmarked on my delicious.com.
I barely even know what music I'm listening to anymore, but I can always go back and check last.fm.
I know naff all about the minutae of my work. Client names, addresses and job numbers are all listed in a spreadsheet so I rarely bother to make mental notes that connect those three key pieces of info with each other, let alone peg them with the actual work done on a particular job. As far as the actual technical ins and outs of my job, I just wing it and manage to get by consulting reference material (some stuff is standard regs, some stuff is my own collection of notes).
No-one has any idea what they're doing any more do they? I know I don't.
I hardly bother to commit anything to memory these days. It's vaguely worrying in a way, but also strangely exciting.
So it looks like the 2010s are set to be a replay of the 2000s.
But I might be a decade out, yeah I think I am.
and a couple of wars after 911 thats about it
