My tuppence worth (being a ginger myself)
I'm all for jokes, but encourage bullying of children is reprehensible.
[reference to marital status of goat]
A variety of reasons
Just wondering what was stupid about her not wanting her kids to be bullied
but first need to just point out that the card (which incidentally, I don't find especially funny anyway) would not be the reason her children would be bullied, if they were infact bullied.
Now the reasons:
- Mocking people based on race and ethnicity is not comparable to mocking their appearance, although the two can obviously be related. One often involves ridiculing a long, painful history of suffering and cultural hegemony; the other involves having a giggle 'cos someone looks a bit funny.
- Various 'comedy' greeting cards derive their 'humour' from mocking overweight people, so that part of her assertion is simply factually inacurrate rather than retarded.
- That card was no doubt not intended for children's consumption (in either sense). It wasn't a joke aimed at children. It was aimed at adults who should really have the mental and emotional intelligence to grasp what I've said above.
- She's somehow involved with the Daily Mail.
That'll do for now.
Someone should tell her Santa Claus isn't real.
Santa loves all kids, even Irish/Ugly/Gypsy/Black ones?
Not allowed to make fun of the blacks obvs.
your logic here is fairly ridiculous. are people only allowed to be upset/find something a bit distasteful because there is a history of people like them being oppressed/abused because of that perceived flaw in their person? does there have to be a ginger holocaust first? take a third generation black person, who has grown up in a predominantly black area of London. I'm fairly sure the weight of years of slavery aren't really bearing down that hard on their shoulders, in an instance like that it'd be fine compare replacing the word 'ginger' with "black" in this card. And in my opinion, I still wouldnt be offended by the card, it's faintly amusing in a lowest common denominator type way. just a bit weird Tescos would be so shortsighted as to stock it, with their mass market image to uphold and the current reactionary "offence" culture, seems more of a tshirthell type gag.
My logic isn't even slightly flawed. You seem to think I'm suggesting that mocking someone's physical appearance is never unpleasant, which I'm not.
bloody loved it ! he was 28 though.
...made me chuckle, so it did.
surely her kids are more likely to be bullied as a result of their mum appearing in a national paper looking like a mong, rather than being ginger or ninjas
It is. It's a funny card.
How are we supposed to eradicate the gingers if we don't ridicule them?
it's not fair, really. it's taking the piss out of someone for something that's inherited, which really isn't that much removed from racism
Sometimes it's not justy light-hearted banter, it's down downright evil and hurtful.
Having said that, I did rather hypocritically wet my thong at this when it popped into my inbox- http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/i-do-not-love-the-ginger-ones%2c-says-santa-200912152310/
looks to be really bad quality.
Nuff said really
Don't worry, I know that wasn't your fault, I'm just acting the goat.
that is not a real card surely?!
