I am off here soon, anyone been, is it any good?
make sure you go to skansen
There is an amazing restaurante by the ferry near the entrance which is also worth going to.
and if you like cool fish and crocodiles and baboons and THE TINIEST MOST CUTEST TEENY TINY MONKEYS YOU WILL EVER SEE and strolling through lemur pens, the 'aquarium' bit is massively worth the extra money
It's 1 minute from Central Station and is abotu the cheapest hotel in the city. I stayed in a room with no window, mind you...
the women are all beautiful and the streets are like catwalks.
Stockholm folk are so pretty you might end up with serious self-esteem issues! I really liked the Vasamuset(?), which is basically a massive wooden galleon which was so heavy it sank on its way out of the harbour only to be dredged up years later and have a whole museum built around it. Try not to even think about the money aspect, it's hideously expensive everywhere, drinks especially. On the plus side if you end up in the same nightclub I did you might get treated to what seemed like a half hour long happy hardcore version of Cotton Eye Joe...
although I was last there nearly 5 years ago. You certainly couldn't find a pint for anything under £4, and a main course in any of the restaurants we went to was at least £10 (barring maccy D's and the like). No worse than Copenhagen, Dublin or Amsterdam though. We were staying with friends and got stupidly cheap Ryanair flights which helped take the edge off.
I didn't find amsterdam too bad although have never been to dublin or copenhagen.
despite the cost. My last post's probably a bit too negative! It's a really cool city with plenty of interesting stuff to do and see. And it bears repeating, the women are incredible...
but not in the winter
That is some bizarre shit right there. Take a tram from the central city and within half an hour you can be wandering around in what feels like Middle Earth or something.
thought it said 'stockport'
does that sound like Stockport?
It's a while since I've been there to be honest
i feel hideously unprepared. the sun's gonna set at 2pm every day, innit?
number of hours of sunlight in Stockholm for the entire month of December this year: 17.5
Lots of pretty lights though
17.5 hours was the November count
December will probably be around 12
it'll be awesome and magical, right?
you should go to the Christmas Market in Gamla Stan in Stortorget, outside the Nobel Museum. Find Andreas & Jessica's Waffle stand (south west corner) and tell them Anschul sent you. They'll give you the best waffle you've ever had and probably at a discount price
i am totally going to do this.
thanks A BILLION for the tip!!
I'll check out some sites and get back to this thread a little later
my flight with taxes, return, was £10. to vasteras though which is a bit out.
so keep this coming.
so you might want to do a search in the meantime
not much info on what's happening gigwise in January but The XX are playing at Debaser Slussen on January 19th and Pete Doherty is playing Debaser Medis on the 11th (though that's sold out)
there are loads of clubs about though they regularly move from place to place and around the calender
check listings nearer the time; here's some links
both general entertainments guides, club and concert should be easy to work out
Other than that, what people have mentioned already - Vasamuseet, Skansen etc. - touristy stuff
go here for all of that info
erm, what else? I don't really know what you're into so it's hard to say but if you want to go record shopping then go here
they also have a bar/restaurant across the street which has DJs and occasional bands playing downstairs. Almost everyone has played there at some point, check the list
wouldn't surprise if Doherty put in a surprise appearance there before his gig - it's about 5 minutes walk from the venue
umm, what else would you like to know?
bump this thread if you have any more questions - or just let me know what kind of places you like to hang out and I'll point you as best
also, make not of what randomgirl3 says below - you will NEED hat & gloves & scarf & warm socks & boots
you spot a nice concert at debaser medis or slussen.
Last time for me was the breach reunion show... magical.
We rented a van - 7 of us - in a house on vaxholm, ridiculously cheap, owned by an english car collector, and in the end had a cheap and unforgettable holiday.
for that there icey cold wind - take a nice woolly hat !
