OK all you iPhone touch/iPod net PC types - two questions

1) how many wi-fi networks does your blue-tooth pick up when switched on?
me (at home) 27!

2) instead of everybody having individual wi-fi networks do you think it would be better to have a large network in your area that is permanently free, open and switched on and pay for this directly (at a fraction of the cost) through your local taxes ?

geek additional question: is the question in 2 even possible/desirable on a technological level ?
