Thunderbirds meets Event Horizon?
theres still some good moments.
has the same birthday as me.
Sunshine is fucking weird.
all slow ambient and post-rocky one scene then attacking up like there's going to be some action the next
I suppose it falls between two stools: not actiony enough to be a blockbuster; not arty enough to be an indie film. But:
-Kickass soundtrack. Check out the I Am Kloot song at the end.
-Nice claustrophobic people trapped in a situation together plot.
-semi-mythical bad guy/insanity very creepy.
One of my 10 ten films of the decade. And yes, I know I may well be the only one. And I'm fine with that.
It's not got the awe-inspiring quiet contemplative feel of, say, Moon. Nor is it pacey enough for it to be a mainstream title.
it's hard to say whether too much is happening or not enough
The problem with the ending is it's filmed so ludicrously it makes the film feel sillier and it combines that with some truly boringly obvious stuff happening. It just loses all the interesting original ideas it had in the first part and then tries to become Apocalypse Now. And fails.
maybe that's why.
i do like boyle though, the guy has ambition. it's like he set out to create a classic that would reside with the likes of 2001 and solaris, but then got a bit bored 2/3 of the way through.
Still can't get away from Erol.
Was an alright film. Bit disappointed by the ending, but a good watch in HD.
Like most Danny Boyle films, it has a pretty weak ending. But everything up to that point, the soundtrack, the melancholic euphoria of the ending... It evens out. Great film.
But yeah, it's just like Event Horizon: It looks pretty on a big screen because it steals its visuals and all of its ideas off of half a dozen better films, and manages to be considerably less than the sum of its parts.
to the look how pretty feels like something should happen but isn't first half
Typical disaster movie-by-numbers toss.
but i remember really liking it visually and enjoyed the story/action. plus i really like cillian murphy and rose whasserface.
Looks great, has Cillian "It's The Bat-Man" Murphy in it and is on the whole inoffensive fare.
Not Boyle's finest hour but still better than your average flick. I really wish Boyle could make a wholly amazing run of films.
He has the potential to be a great filmmaker in that he tackles multiple genres like Kubrick did. But he never quite nails them...
