Awesome, awesome exhibiton. Anyone else been?
Loved it. Freaked out a bit when I saw a real life monk lurking in the shadows in the last room. From the corner of my eye I thought he was another model. The detail on some of the carvings is staggering.
but i went to pop life at the tate on saturday and it was a bit rubbish. appallingly curated.
tomorrow afternoon, probably
i hope they have miniature bleeding jesuse (jesusi?) that i can buy as christmas gifts in the spirit of both iconic art and actual christmas
last time i planned to go I ended up going to the sophie calle exhibition at the whitechapel gallery instead of seeing this (highly recommended too, though it is probably diametrically opposed in terms of gore, and horror)
Went to see Sophie Calle this Saturday and spent about three times as long in there as I'd planned. Still didn't really read everything properly (there's a lot of reading, isn't there?), but will have to go back at some point before it closes.
The Sacred Made Real is fantastic. Simple theme, well-executed: the paintings and sculpture are really allowed to speak for themselves and the juxtaposition of various works is spot on. Loved how the rooms got progressively darker as you travelled round too. Even as a cynical atheist I found it all very, erm, spiritual.
