Stumbled across this thread on another music site's forum:
those guys are all far too doubleplus diy 4 real hardcore for anything as wimpy and sellout as DiS
"DiS is full of twats". In fact, wuite a few, they completely dismiss the site. Dunno why, guess they haven't actually bothered to become part of it.
Whereas DiS isn't full of twats, but normal people talking about music, with 1 or 2 twats out of the 300-400 regulars.
Says everyone on here is a twat and way too pretentious. Plus, he "doesn't want to be told what to listen to"
and they are 100% about the content of the DIS.
I don't think even Sean will argue against that
I've seen more hate in 0 reply thread than there.
is the ultimate Dis expression of contempt though....
I'll take that on board.
That's the worst hate thread I've ever seen. I've had more hatred for a baby than that.
Incidentally, if you have trouble figuring out why the editor of the TELEGRAPH'S music section hasn't heard of a website that (apparently) covers hardcore music, then you are a lost cause.
They're far too needy and earnest
by DiS standards, and the wider internet... actually, by the standards of the wider world, no feck all hate
theyre all very srs tho, might trolly polly them l8rz if the flood waters dont go down
and have met me, is fair enough. i wasn't in that list because i asked to be, it wasn't a 'oooh look at me gesture' it's mostly because people at Times understand the influence of a site like DiS, plus love Martha, Bat for Lashes, etc. i'm a bit embarrassed to have been on such a list, yeah but it certainly hasn't done dis any disservice and has helped us reach a new audience, etc.
Just so you know, I've had to turn off a Flash add-on to stop my web browser crashing whenever on DiS. I'm using IE6, so it may well not be your fault...
must be a dodgy advert - quite likely. apparently youtube crashes ie6?!
saying things like that makes you look silly sorry sean and we know ur not a dick really
why troll a board full of people minding their own biz and getting on with the stuff they enjoy doing?
that's not even that harsh, to be honest.
and if people have nothing bad to say we must be doing something wrong.
personally i think what we're doing is good but not exceptional or in any way 'next level' or anything like what i'd want to believe we could do, given more resources (i.e. time and money and, er, therefore some staff)
Not to diss DiS (yes, pun intended), but I'm surprised. DiS is a hell of a lot more widely read than I'd've thought. Either that or pitchfork isn't actually very popular...
Which are about as reliable as asking my mum how much traffic a site has.
ComScore or HitWise or GTFO
In fact, most of what they say is more reasonable than whenever Pitchfork or NME is mentioned in passing here
about Pitchfork's Kid A review though. It's hilarious.
How on earth did you find that?
One of the best things about this site. We may post some shit, but it's fairly easy to follow shit without our tags and signature phrases clogging the screen up.
Your both got ya wankers... ha ha! Joke... both boards have their thing... live and let live I say.
"i think that's what bugs me most about those sites. that they think that the music they are covering is so fucking important. it's not. it's irrelevant and disposable, music for students... and it's not cool to be enthusiastic about stuff. sure, you they like music, even love it, but it's always expressed in such a joyless fashion. they rarely just come out and say "THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING!" - surely that is what music does to people? if it doesn't, then i must be doing it wrong."
couldn't agree more
They've got it spot on.
im guessing most people here are aware music is just a hobby. and how many students are here? not at this particular hour, but in general. and its NOT cool to get super exicted about laters 7" from which ever underground bozo you fap over. its just not, im sorry, its obsessive and sad.
and its certainly not joyless. matter of perspective, i guess.
wait... arent you the guy who was standing up for dm a while back? lol trolled
I think it's what Sean is going for. NME really caters for people up to 23 at a stretch and no one reads Fader and the glossy music monthlies anymore.
'Serious' mags like the Wire do not cater for the casual listener and then you have to wait until you're 35 for The quietus to become relevant to you.
DIS and pitchfork caters for this gap between NME casual music consumers and the older lot. And this demographic is in the stages of 'growing out of music' until they come back again in a fit of nostalgia.
Sites like C-zine are for makers/consumers of music. They care about the music because they tend to also be the makers.
Comparing DIS to C-zine is like comparing Timeout to Broadcast. It's a bit silly.
The DIS forum users on the other hand doesn't really match up with the DIS readership. The 'older' members were once readers when DIS reflected their tastes and their attitude has influenced and set the tone for appropriate behaviour of new users.
Therefore the DIS forum is in a kind of timewarp.
watchu' say 'bout me brotherman?
i actually wrote up a response here, but meh. instead im just posting to let you know this is my 16,666 post
some of the so called lackluster reviews are from releases where the reviewer hasn't been that keen about the music, which in a site that aims to cover a wide variety of music, is bound to happen. However when this isn't the case (for example the recent 9/10 that was given to Maths latest album) the reviewers are just as enthusiastic as any others I've read.
hello people who have clicked on the link from your forum to see what us on this forum are saying about what your forum thinks of this forum.
and the sncl distro is terrific, I've got some bargains from there in the last year or so.
this place has been lacking for a while now. Its not as vibrant, vital or joyful as it use to be, the content has slipped so much and the boards are mostly full of lists instead of people enthusing about stuff, which gives off the joyless protentious vibe a little bit but its probibly because most people don't know how to articulate why they love something so just write lists... The boards can be alright at times though, I wouldn't come here otherwise.
then I'll listen.
it's to much fun seeing you post about them loads too
I'm just locked in the habit.
I was busey doing somat the first time it popped up then I forgot about it before I could listen, I'll get on them in a sec nice one.
