toothbrushgate: Monday morning football thread
barnet batter darlington for the second week running - accrington stanley (OO ARE THEY?!) here we come.
FAmous cup shock all over. if conference sides beating leagie 1 sides are shocks?
man united are going down. chelsea are surely going to win the league.
arsenal are the best team at scoring goals in history - what did eduardos message mean?
guys brushes teeth at match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66036KdvdaE

and man city are shite.
...poor wayne bridge...
when did he become the worst defender in the league?
about 2001?
was jeff kenna still playing then?
I've never seen Alan Hansen criticise someone that much
it was amazing
when i put him in my fantasy league team.
its a curse that has afflicted:
darren bent (0 goals sincde i signed him)
arshavin (0 points until i sold him)
van persie (0 points until i sold him)
cattermole (long term injury the day after i signed him)
hart (dropped after i signed him)
defoe (stopped scoring as soon as i signed him)
I swear Darren Bent follows my team, sees when I've picked him and deliberately does shit
Last year, pre season, he was on fire. I kept faith for the first 8 league games.. nothing. Dropped him and he went on a run. Same this year.
The guy is a fuck nugget.
Wayne Bridge has been our most consistant player this season.
Easy for people to criticise him who don't really watch him week in, week out. He's been awful these last two games, but then the manager's playing him with an injury and he's playing alongside Joleon Lescott, who is a massive steaming pile of horseshit.
and...
Awful first-half performance against Burnley, worst i can remember us playing at home in years. Graham Alexander was looking like Zinedine Zidane, and hand on heart they were just better than us.
Not sure what's happening the last few weeks, but the quick, passing, counter attacking football has completely disappeared. It's small margins, we don't concede that late goal and no-one's really bothered and our game in hand takes us second. Still an excellent start to the season but teams like Burnley shouldn't be getting anything at Eastlands, no-one should.
Quite relieved there's an international break now, give us chance to regroup. The defence is a problem, though, kinda feel for Kolo Toure because he's obviously excellent, just we've half-plugged the gaping hole caused by Micah Richards at right-back only for Joleon Lescott to be a fatter and shitter Richard Dunne.
It's still been a very, very good start to the season, but we're playing like a bunch of turkeys at the minute.
I didn't watch any football apart from 30 minutes of Paulton Rovers
vs Norwich. Eduardos message was about the recent killings and stuff in Brazil.
hindes/hynes needs to learn how to hit the target.
diamanti is the best player ever it seems.
I saw the misses
yeah he snatched at both, still a long way to go for him and he certainly shouldn't be starting games yet but as Cole is injured and the club decided they didn't need anymore strikers he'll have to learn very quickly.
Diamanti has certainly got something about him but he seems to think he'll score with every 30 yard shot he has
why do wesat ham only seem to play for the last 20 mins of each game?
you really need to start winning soon.
I keep forgetting that he's black
Carlisle United go 2-0 up
Then behave like total berks against 10 man Morecambe.
I blame Graham Kavanagh.
Congratulations to Northwich, Bath City and Staines, amongst others.
I'm going to head up to Northwich for the Lincoln game on the 28th, I reckon.
Massive kick in the bollocks for Man City for being the only team out of ten to fuck up my accumulator. With three minutes left of that game I was on for £187. Fuckers.
Meanwhile, in the league that matters:
Bardon Hill Sports 5 - 3 St Andrews (47)
Blackwell MW 1 - 1 Holbrook MW (48)
Borrowash Victoria 3 - 1 Hinckley Downes (90)
Ellistown 1 - 2 Gedling MW (48)
Gedling Town 3 - 1 Heanor Town (71)
Greenwood Meadows 5 - 1 Barrow Town (18)
Holwell Sports 3 - 3 Gresley (140)
Ibstock Utd 2 - 6 Dunkirk
Radcliffe Olympic 4 - 4 Graham Street Prims (42)
Radford 3 - 3 Anstey Nomads (62)
What do all the numbers after the scores mean?
It's the house numbers.
All of those grounds are on the same road.
Number 48 must be quite spacious
...
I thought that toothbrush guy was Ian Wright. If it turns out to be just some guy, I'll be disappointed.
Also when did it become acceptable to interview managers
during the actual game?
When you're ITV covering 'the magic of the cup'?
Steve Rider:
'How'd you cause a cup upset?'
Andy Townsend in a fez:
'Just like that.'
"Northwich VictorIOUS!"
i had my rant about ITV the other day. but their coverage of football is so SO poor.
for ebbsfleet v farnborough in the early rounds of the cup, i want Tony Gubba and I want him now.
I didn't mind their coverage of the Paulton game, to be honest.
They didn't patronise TOO much.
Think Eduardo's message meant
"Peace to Villa Kennedy" which is a slum in Rio where the gang fighting has got so bad they've had to close all the schools, shops etc.
I love Aaron Ramsey, he was a little sloppy on Saturday, but he's just so tuned into our way of playing, especially for just his second start in the league, he's going to be really something.
Norwich keeper (Randolph?) pulled off one of the saves of ever yesterday, incredible.
who would have thought a year ago
that Song coming off the bench could completely stabilise the team?
something doesn't seem right about Arshavin's body language. could be he's a loner, or arrogant, or unhappy, but he never seems to celebrate any goal that he doesn't score himself, and even then it's pretty subdued
Him and the wife hate London
he (or she) wouldn't be the first,
but i still don't see why that should manifest itself on a football pitch where he's playing the game he supposedly loves
you ever lived in a town you loved
then moved to a town you hate? you do EVERYTHING with a miserable expression
...
He's Russian.
He's been doing it all season
I think it's partly he's a bit of an odd ball and he just enjoys being enigmatic. I'd imagine it's also because he's been plonked out on the left against his wishes.
There was an interview the other week where he said he was really happy at the club, had settled in London a bit more, etc so I wouldn't read too much into it.
That said I'd be stunned if he's here after next season.
'That said I'd be stunned if he's here after next season.'
is there not something profoundly depressing about that though? wenger's all about building teams, yet how do you build a team if you can't hold on to your best players
if he doesn't want to live in london
there's fuck all wenger can do about it
curse those footballers being human beings with preferences
yeah, i'm still not really buying that it's got anything to do with london really
...
Exactly. London already looks as depressing as St Petersburg in the winter and now we have shit loads of Russians living here - can't he just make new friends?
I think he's just a stoic and won't ever smile unless he's bossing the game and scoring four goals a match.
someone like arshavin can only see himself playing at barcelona/real/milan or something tho,
i love him but i just know he's going to leave.
...
That's what Hleb thought...
i'm not saying he's right,
its just the way they think.
I know what you mean, but not sure if it's as depressing in Arshavin's case
He was bought in his late 20's and as much as I love him and think he's vital this season he's always felt a little like a stop gap to me, an injection of quality to move the team along and give the likes of Nasri, Wilshere, Vela, Walcott a little bit more time and space to develop.
I watched loads of football this weekend
due to being struck down with manflu and staying indoors most of the time. Paulton-Norwich was great, if only because the small crowd meant you could hear every utterance of 'you stupid cunt' in all of it's glory.
The toothbrush guy is... perplexing. I'm wholly unsurprised by just how much of a dickhead Alex Ferguson is being, yet again. Decent punishment for him please, FA.
some of the northwich chanting was brilliantly well timed
the magic of the cup is "YOU'RE SO SHIT IT'S UNBELIEVABLE!" being screamed every two minutes at sunday lunchtime on ITV.
i liked "you're just a small town in Welling"
crikey, you're mr "it's ok to badmouth referees" and YOU'RE saying that
this makes me happy
I think it's perfectly fine for me to badmouth referees
As it is for any fan. It's not OK if you're a professional manager. Big, big difference, IMO.
fao lordluciusbanter
fuck you and your filthy rich bastard team :(
also
that Northwich game was a BELTER
ANDY PREECE
All.
Gorkks who scored the winner only cost £250k
And he's a bad motherfucker. I love him
i wish we had £250 to spend on players
let alone £250k
I love the FA cup
Kettering put up such a good defensive performance against Hartlepool, hardly gave them a chance. Really looking forward to the Leeds game, it looks like it will be on TV which hopefully will give us a platform to get the council to support our hunt for a new ground.
As I always say
The FA Cup should be enjoyed now, as it usually drops off a cliff once it reaches the quarter-final stage
SPL round up:
Rangers are pish but thank fuck for Kris Boyd.
Celtic are pish.
Gettin to be a real fucking chore.
In other news arsenal are brilliant.
Arsenal are brilliant
until we go two games without a win or something at which point we'll probably fall on our arses big time. If we get four points off Sunderland and Chelsea next though I'll be happy.
I've not watched an entire SPL game, from start to finish, all season
I wish i hadn't either.
If Rangers weren't doing so badly then i think Morbray would be under a lot of pressure already and i don't think the board will give him much to strengthen with in jan.
Quite depressing times up here.
If Hibs (or someone else) can't win the title this year, then no-one else ever will
Yeah have to agree with you there, never has there been a better chance to beat the old firm.
I don't anyone will though, hibs have started brightly but will fade. I think if anyone has a chance then it will be dundee utd, levein always has them well drilled and organised and they always give us a game.
Pretty much agree with all of that.
Though I'm not sure Kris Boyd is as good as some Rangers fans make out.
I didn't watch any SPL football over the weekend though apart from the high(!)lights on the BBC website.
A fucking chore indeed Lo-Pan.
Something needs to be done, and quickly!
We've already lost our automatic spot on the Champions League proper and we're only going to fall down from here.
Not really sure what can be done.
The whole set up of the sfa/spl/sfl is a joke and i think coaching across the board is dreadful.
Rangers are really in the shit and could be in the doldrums for a good few years.
At least you guys are in an good position financially.
Aye, we've got loads of blank pages left in our cheque book.
Pity we don't want to write on any of them!
Scottish football is a joke.
Too many clubs for such a small population. We need to kick the wee teams out of the league structure and start afresh.
It's a bloody complicated beast though, have a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_football_league_system
Mental.
The SFA need to take control of the lot.
We need two national 16 team leagues with the rest regional.
207 people watched Stranraer vs Elgin in October. Is it really worth the 550 mile round trip?
Is it fuck.
Madness indeed.
Yeah we have far too many teams considering population. I would go for the 2 league set up.
QUESTION ABOUT CUP DRAW TEAM NUMBERS:
how are they picked? i used to think it was alphabetical (cos arsenal were always in the top few numbers) but i dont think thats right.
"number 2, thats Bath..."
ANSWER ME
Good question
Sometimes it is alphabetical I'm sure, but sometimes it isn't - confusing!
I'm going to have a guess:
It starts off alphabetically in the 1st prelim rounds, so aardvark fc are number 1, but if they get beaten by zebra fc then zebra fc become number 1 for the next round.
this happens up to the 3rd round when loads of new teams are introduced so the numbers are all reset into alphabetical order again, meaning arsenal are usually about number 3 or 4, or maybe 1 or 2, possibly even 5.
ridiculous.
got any better ideas?
nope.
maybe jim rosenthal ranks them on how easy they are to remember.
Initially, it's alphabetical order
but once a team's already played round, it's done by the order in which they came out of the hat last time.
For the 3rd round, 1-44'll be the Premiership and Championship sides in alphabetical order, then...
45 Northwich Victoria or Lincoln City
46 Northampton Town or Southampton
47 Hereford United or Colchester United
48 Tranmere Rovers or Leyton Orient or Aldershot Town
49 Kettering Town or Leeds United
50 Gillingham or Burton Albion
51 Wrexham or Swindon Town
52 Wycombe Wanderers or Brighton & Hove Albion or Rushden & Diamonds
53 Rotherham United or Luton Town or Rochdale
54 Milton Keynes Dons or Exeter City
55 Gateshead or Brentford or Walsall
56 Carlisle United or Morecambe or Norwich City
57 Accrington Stanley or Barnet
58 Oxford United or Barrow
59 Bournemouth or Notts County
60 Stockport County or Torquay United
61 Cambridge United or York City
62 Bath City or Forest Green Rovers or Mansfield Town
63 Port Vale or Stevenage Borough or Huddersfield Town
64 Staines Town or Millwall or AFC Wimbledon
ridiculous.
^ this.
seems a bit convaluted
i really don't see why it matters
it doesnt.
I think it's important to point out that I am 340th (three hundred and fortieth)
in the Telegraph fantasy football.
I'm glad you pointed that out.
What do you get for coming 340th?
£340... maybe
This is just a stepping stone, I was 500 something last week, 357 yesterday, 340 today - tomorrow the world (although unlikely as I have no players for tonight). Somebody in my super league is 155,000th.
Small minority of Celtic fans failing to show some respect by keeping quiet for 60 seconds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5y2-U6Ll1Q
jesus..why didn't the ref just blow up?
Looks like Dean Ashton will be announcing his retirement
this week. Shame.
that is a shame
he could have been a genuine great for club and country
really?
fucking terrible shame.
Is that for real?
The biggest English lost talent (not through faults of his own) since Rob Jones.
well it's in evening standard and written by a journo who has
close links with the club so it seems there's some truth in it. Career ended by a tackle from Shaun Wright Phillips in a training session before an England friendly match. Christ.
might as well go out in glory
rob jones was great.
The player on which I tried to model myself.
Him and John Scales.
Sad news about Ashton. He seemed like a lovely chap, as well as a good player.
*Almunia
Great win for us at the weekend
The kind of game we probably would've lost in the past and means we're FOURTH heading into the international break. If we'd lost we'd be 11th. The Championship eh?
when did the championship start getting an international break?
Here Here
Gutting as it means games like Sheffield United and Coventry away which would have been 3pm kick offs on a Saturday are now 745 kick offs on a Tuesday night in December or whenever, making it bloody difficult to get to.
For a while now
We lose a fair few players now
Gorkks
Buzz
Stewart
Taarabt
Rowlands
Routledge
ooo big wow.
barnet has 2 players in the non league world cup team. did we get any time off? did we fuck.
Also I watched Real Madrid vs Athletico Madrid on Saturday night
I don't watch much overseas football, so it was interesting.
The basic skill levels are SO much higher than the premiership; the touch, the passing, the movement. But it didn't feel very exciting to watch. Great goals from Kaka and Marcelo, but when goals are scored it's almost like no one really cares.
But then it go exciting when Athletico scored 2 in 2 minutes with 10 to go. Needing 1 more to pull off a stunning comeback from 3-0 down you'd think they'd go hell for leather, but no, still just passing it around in circles. And they still managed to spoon about 5 glorious chances wide.
LLB - did you see Steve Thomson's comeback?
Apparently he had to pay back £500,000 of insurance cheque to play.
I didn't see the game
I hate watching England in the pub because of all the boorish fools who know zip about rugby that come out of the woodwork for their games.
But I read about Thompson doing that. A massive fair play to him - paying back half a million pounds to play again shows great commitment. Must also be why he went to France- for the pay day.
Shame that doctor didn't give him a second opinion on his playing skills though - he is an awful rugby player
i didn't see it either.
It does seem strange that he would just quit but yeah, definite commitment to the cause to play for his country.
Well he quit because a doctor told him after a back injury
that if he carried on playing hooker he'd end up paralysed. He tried to move to back row, but he's fat and shit.
So he took his insurance and quit. But he felt alright, and kept wondering what might have been, so he went to see another docotr, out of curiousity more than anything.
He never would've played for England again though if Martin Johnson hadn't of been in charge. The man's taking England no where
I'm off to watch Argentina bury our pack next weekend.
It's going to be ugly.
England vs Argentina
If ever a game was guaranteed dullness, that is it.
The ball's going to become frozen it's going to be in the atmosphere so much
You think?
It won't be a running game, but I can see it all being played up front. The Argentines will just keep things rolling and driving, I'd have thought.
Nah, Argentina's sole tactic is Munster rugby circa 1970
Endless Garryowns with pressure on the kick hoping for a scrum
They are the most depressing team in world rugby
HAIRnandez?
Pleased that Benty's back in the England team
Hopefully it will put all the Michael Owen nonsense to bed - if he was serious about playing at the world cup he wouldn't have joined united.
Played well against Spurs and should have got something from the game. The penalty shouldn't have been given (definite dive) so I guess justice was done.
Arsenal next, great.
You outplayed us for most of the game and definitely deserved something...
steed and reid were superb IMO. Reid's shifted a few pounds hasn't he!!?!?!?
Reid's been incredible this season
probably our best player. Can't believe he's still being frozen out by Ireland.
you basically are Spurs from a few years ago
any chance of a decent cup run do you reckon? Or is it not Bruce's thing, I can;t remember.
Our squad's so thin
that we have no choice but to play the same team in every game. Hopefully we can do some damage in the FA Cup, but it all depends on the draw.
Huddlestone's goal was a corker - always rated him.
I wish I supported Arsenal sometimes...
They're SUPER SEXY.
Aldershot get new manager :D
happy about this. Kevin Dillon, formally 1st team coach at reading. exciting times
hahah
I THOUGHT I saw someone with a toothbrush in his mouth.
Lyon – Marseille last night
5-5, Lyon going 5-4 up in injury time after coming back from 2-4 down, Marseille equalise in injury time. Take note Chelsea and Man Utd, THAT is how you do a top of the table clash
I didn’t see it mind, I was watching Inter play fucking appallingly. The Italian league is a joke
Also: only six days until FA Vase second round. I'm far too excited.
hey non league fans:
who should I support - Merthyr Tydfil FC or Newport County Fc.
?
Merthyr are very close to not existing and are in my book as one of the worst ever places to visit for an away day ever.
Newport have a cartoon of a drunken winking dog on the front page of their website and are managed by Dean Holdsworth.
You decide.
Although Newport do also have a sizable contingent of twats supporting them
I think that every Welsh team in the English pyramid system do.
Apart from Colwyn Bay.
Entirely possible
My only first hand experience with Welsh football is Cardiff and Aberystwyth. The latter was far more enjoyable and worthwhile than the former.
Why is it everywhere i live is at least 20 miles away from a non league team
I'm gonna go for merthyr. I actually like merthyr more than Newport as a town.
Nothing nearby in the LoW?
Quality of football won't be much different to what you'll see at Merthyr anyway.
cardiff doesn't have a LOW premier team, and anything below that is just sunday league standard.
I don't want to support my nearest LOW div 1 (i think) team, because I used to play junior football with most of their players and they're all bellends.
I refuse to pay £30 to see Cardiff City (or swansea) in their new lego stadiums so I'm stuck really.
Fair play then
If you're in Cardiff you are a bit up shit creek on that front.
most towns and villages will have a local team, won't they?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_football_league_system
Pick the shittest one and start following them.
not really
as i said, anything below welsh premier really is pub football standard. I could get on their bench without any effort. except that none of their grounds have benches.
it's rugby round here that has the decent non league system.
Football-related things that don't deserve their own thread -
I played golf on Friday in a group behind Nick Burton.
Thanks
i met david james brother on friday.
if david is anything like his brother, he's a bloody nice man.
although it turns out i AM actually racist:
mutual friend: "who do you think he looks like?"
me: "thierry henry?"
*mutual friend who KNOWS he is david james broter (i didnt).
Can you start again from "i..."?
i...
also think david james' brother is rather affeminate (sp). he is also very tall.
Does he know he is David James' brother?
hard to tell.
Paulton LOLS.
A fucking embarrassment to the non-leagues.
I could hardly watch after the fifth went in.
my friend is from Paulton
she was embarressed.
though i must say Northwich were excellent.
Yeah...
Shame on them losing 7-0 to a side 5 divisions and 100 odd places above them in the pyramid.
Glad we all agree.
They were shocking.
I could've put together a side of neighbours that'd have given Norwich a better game.
*Burnley
get the landing net out...
You couldn't though.
Lies.
Pat from no35 used to play for Salford City, so...
the pyramid?
Below the Conference (step 6 onwards) leagues are structured into a pyramid
Step 5 - 1 division
Step 6 - 2 divisions
Step 7 - 3 divisions
Step 8 - 6 divisions
Step 9 - 14 divisions
Step 10 - 16 divisions
step 9 - 14 divisons
step 10 - only 16 divisions? warum?
Steps 9 and 10 are generally two division leagues
where one feeds directly into it's counterpart at the level above. If I remember rightly, the only place where it's different is somewhere in the Midlands where three leagues feed into one for some reason.
I wouldn't quote myself on that though!
I don't think they were an embarrassment at all.
Being beaten 7-0 by a team 120-odd places above you in the league system isn't surprising. And they kept trying, despite what was going to be an obvious gap in class.
They're making next week's game free to get in, with a free cup of tea, to everyone that attends. That's what it's all about.
no,
its about buying all the best players in the world.
Nope.
I'm a huge fan of non-league football. I mean, it's not your bread and butter as people claim, ultimately it's top-level football that gets people interested in the game and the support permeates throughout the pyramid. Without Premier League football the rest would die a slow death, whereas the world would carry on vice verca.
I go and watch several local sides, though, and yeah, it's nice to pay £3 on the gate, have a brew and watch a load of plumbers kick lumps out of eachother. There's a certain romance to it that you probably don't get as much the further up the divisions you go. It's hard to really have as personal a relationship with a big club nowadays.
My point was just that Paulton were very, very bad. I wouldn't expect a Premier League side to beat a Conference side 7-0 away.
You said that Paulton
were 'a fucking embarassment to the non leagues'.
They weren't.
Bollocks.
It's when you do this shithouse troll crap that I get annoyed.
I'll leave you to it.
Which bit, big fella?
Comparing apples and oranges
There's a huge gulf between the national Conference division and Conference North/South, largely because the former is about 70-80% full time now whereas 99.9% of sides in the latter and lower down are part time. That doesn't mean a huge difference in class, but the fitness levels are so much higher at the full time clubs it's ridiculous.
Totally.
They looked alright for about 20 minutes or so too. Let's face it KinkladzeinOrifice, had you even heard of the Zamaretto (or whatever) League before Saturday? I certainly hadn't. Shop assistants and mechanics up against internationals (okay Gary Doherty) and a striker with combined fees of about £1.5 million in Holt. What did you expect? I thought they didn't do bad by themselves. A lot better teams will get rolled over by Norwich this season and give up a lot more quickly.
they were gash
was this your first post of the day?
Nope.
Eight or ninth.
Good trolling.
good trolling?
i don't get it...
Better than yours.
Colin Hendry linked to new series of 'I'm A Celeb...'
Hendry quit football management in January 2008 when his wife Denise fell ill. She passed away in July this year.
"In a way, it will be breaking the shackles of Colin's mourning. It will be six weeks away in Australia but he is definitely up for it," a source told The Mirror.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrity/news/a185868/dallerup-hendry-linked-to-im-a-celeb-prog.html
Steve Bould for Celeb Big Brother?
Steve Morrow for Celebrity Wipeout?
I feel a bit sorry for Colin Hendry. 4 months and the ITV bods come calling...
The Sun are reporting that Posh have sacked Darren Ferguson
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2721212/Darren-Ferguson-sacked-as-Peterborough-manager.html
Nothing anywhere else yet, but I'll be pretty pissed off if that's true...
I was wanting you to post son
Apparently we've (QPR) taken Tommy "Square it Tommy" Williams on loan
How's he been playing?
I doubt he'll get a good reception at Loftus Road - no one's forgotten him shooting instead of passing to an unmarked man in the play off final against Cardiff
Harsh.
Saw him linked to the Hull job the other day
Being as Brown is supposedly out regardless of their win yesterday maybe there's more to this than them being bottom, which would as KiK said be pretty harsh so soon after winning promotion.
Could be.
We wouldn't give him permission to speak to Reading or WBA in the summer, where we would have got some cash for him, and now we're probably paying out a wedge to get rid of him.
Holy fuck?
Really? Madness.
It's not been reported anywhere else yet,
so hopefully not...
He's a weird one Williams
He's not really a left-back, I don't think.
He played roughly the first 10 or so games, and then apparently fell out with Feguson. He's looked really good going forward, and must have got 5 or 6 assists in those 10 games, but can't really defend. He got caught out no-end in the first few games.
I imagine he'd do a good job for you, as he be doing more attacking than defending.
I'm disappointed he's gone as, as a left back, he offered us a creative outlet, but he was out of contract in the summer, and clearly wanted a move back to London. There are rumours on our boards that you're looking to take Russell Martin and Aaron Mclean as well.
Shit, that's supposed to be a reply to LLB
What position do they play?
They're not midfielders are they? If there's something we don't need, it's more of them.
He's attacking side sounds great, but we've already got a left back who can't defend. We're so susecptible to crosses because our full backs just don't cut them out.
Martin is a right back
He was captain last year, but has been probably our worst player this year. He's way out of his depth. I'll drive him down to Loftus Road if you want?
Mclean's a Striker. I'll be gutted if he leaves, hard working, will chase anything and a decent finisher. Quite small, but really good in the air. We turned down 2 million for him when we were in league 2, so I'd be surprised (and massively disappointed) to see him leave for less than 3 or 4million
A right back and a striker eh?
Exactly what we need.
I love big Jim more every day
But I don't want the shit bloke, ta
McLean scored 12 goals in 71 games for Aldershot between 2003 and 2005
God knows how poor our coaching was.
Although he also did score an amazing 30 yard goal against Hendon once when we picked up the Ryman League title that day.
He did indeed...
Ran about 35 miles across the pitch before banging in a belter. Looked unplayable then.
Fletcher: it's all Wenger's fault

Kolo Toure: "My brother Yaya dreams of playing for Manchestr City"
Crikey.
"... before waking up in a cold sweat."
Benitez
:D
oh deary deary me
this could be the big one..
Cameron Jerome, what a strike!
1-2 at half time and Liverpool are staring what would be a 6th league defeat in 12 games in the face.
c'mon Birmingham, you useless nuggets
show us how to throw away a game
<burnley LOLs>
anyone got a working link?
.

This is hilarious :D
the bbc site tells me that David Haye is a Milwall fan and was at tonights match
no one he's so hard
*wonder not one
late bindipppers winner sweep...
OG 94.
is yossi on?
i don't mind so much if he gets it, anything else would be a travesty
been subbed
done his hamstring
fuck'em then
clear dive from Egg Nog
Gerrard and Torres passing their experience onto the youngsters
This is thrilling stuff here.
Liverpool winner imminent though I fear.
aquilani 92
:(
am I confused?
Quite annoyed at the moment around the Wayne Rooney warning for shouting "12 Men" into the camera after the match.
The only reason we're assured that the comment is directed at the ref, linesmen and officials is because they were poor - as the phrase '12th man' is ambiguous and can refer to the crowd, beach balls, etc.?
Obviously the warning is not the biggest wrist slap but if the FA are willing to discuss that which is picked up by the High Definition Sky cameras shouldn't it be reviewing different footage.
Finally, there's always highly opinionated comments between referees and players at all levels of the game, why is it only the Drogba's and Rooney's that take the brunt?
trial by media
basically just helps Murdoch to shift more of his shitty papers and overhype Sky's Super Duper Sundays when they roll around
FA = PR?
Although the FA and SKY are in bed together, so too are the clubs. The idea sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory, to use his [Murdoch] powers purely for evil. Nice picture but I'm not convinced.
Didn't see the game.
I trust
- Liverpool deserved at least a point?
- were correctly awarded a penalty?
- Super Stevie Me was brilliant?
- They got cheered off?
- Rafa's still the man for the job?
in order:
- Yes
- No
- For the time he was on, yes
- Applauded
- Yes
.
I'm loving how much of a chance they're letting us have at 4th.
We're hardly any better than any other year and the gap between us and liverpool has closed immeasurably. I'd be amazed if they finish 4th.
If they do then they might as well start the european super league straight away because no one will ever crack the big 4.
2-2 FT
boooooooo
lucky to get out of that with a draw.
Liverpool would have scored an equalizer,
whatever the penalty decision. It would have come eventually.
in that case...
why not bag another one anyway and take all three points?
they want to give your lot something to play for right up until March.
not sure you'll be in with a chance of 5th by then, tbh.
More likely to be Villa causing us bother in that respect.
good trolling
it's true though
its november.
as ive said before, it's completely insane that so many members of this site can be so elitist towards tabloid hyperbole and come out with statements like "liverpool wont have a chance of 5th" as if theyre valid & intellectually passable statements
what do you see in this liverpool team
that makes you think they're the 4th or 5th best team in the country?
(remember the scouse hyperbole from 2 months ago that they were going to win the league? LOL!)
I don't think any Liverpool supporters were saying
that we were going to win the league. We'd sold Alonso, and the squad was clearly not as strong as last season's.
I bet
Nestor and Wrightylew said it.
Nestor supports Leeds,
wrightylew's a troll.
the fact they've got the two best players in the premiership.
a very solid starting 11, if not overall squad, and one of the better tactical minds (if erratic) in the league commanding them.
there's no better side in the league against big teams
theyre almost identical to the side that almost won the league last year.
how people are talking about them finishing 6th when its less than a third of the way through the season & theyre far off their potential & suffered loads of injuries suggests that its retarded.
also not at all am i saying they'll win the league
- i didnt say that are the start of the season (though i thought they had a chance) but suggesting the likes of spurs are better than them is an embarrassing overreaction
liverpool players that would get in the spurs 11:
Reina
Gerrard
Torres
Johnson (50/50)
in the man city 11:
Reina (50/50)
Skrtel
Insua
Gerrard
Torres
in the Villa 11
Reina
Skrtel
Johnson
Gerrard
Torres
Benayoun (50/50)
they never almost won the league.
i agree with you on most other points, but they're all pretty redundant because when those two players are out they only really have one other player in their entire squad capable of changing games, and now he's injured too.
United, Chelsea & Arsenal all have 6 or 8 matchwinners, Liverpool have three, that's the difference.
utd have 6 or 8 matchwinners?!
rooney
owen
giggs
scholes
berbatov
fletcher
Park
no
:(
that 2nd sentence
wtf
?
you cant deny that benitez has the odd match where he
shows tactical genius. admittedly he has the odd match totally opposite. why i said erratic.
it's a football thread.
nothing valid & intellectual about it.
I'm not sure you can categorically say that given all the variables involved.
Of course I can't categorically say it.
We're talking about things that didn't happen in a match that's just occured.
Gerrard scores a penalty that shouldn't have been to grab an equalizer
its 08/09 all over again
great match
liverpool have had a ridiculously unlucky season - reckon alongside west ham their points total is least representative of how well they've actually been playing.
awful to see that dive though, so disappointing when its teams you like. no excuses. i hate that guy.
the tackle was fucking appalling as well
if you miss the ball by that much you probably deserve to give a pen
Ridiculously unlucky?
Come off it, if Arsenal had lost five games by now (give us time, we'll manage it by February I'm sure) and were in Liverpool's position we'd have had the press and everyone else dancing on our grave and nobody would be calling it unlucky. Bewildering, yes. Unlucky, no chance.
Liverpool have been playing pretty shit recently, to be honest.
To be fair though, they played as well as this for long periods of last season and managed to pull out wins, and Man Utd have made an art of playing worse than Liverpool have done and remaining top of the table.
liverpool unlucky?
very lucky with decisions in the Man Utd game, still getting penalties that shouldnae have been. except for the first sending off vs Fulham and the beachy bally incident i dont recall any
mystery viruses, injuries playing a major part and the sending off + beach ball
are pretty much both bizarre and massively unlucky.
lucky with decisions in the utd game? jesus christ.
Marriner had a mare in that game
Carragher should clearly have been sent off and the push on Giggs should probably have been a pen as well. No complaints about the result obviously, we were beyond wank that day. In fact that was probably a worse performance than the 4-1.
oh aye
they deserved to win, played great. doesnt excuse the early rooney incorrect offside call or the pretty blatant penalty (in the lpool game not chelsea).
dont agree carragher shoulda been off though. Owen through one on one with the keeper=not a goalscoring opportunity
injuries and illnesses happen
cant see how Liverpool have had a certain amount of luck against or for them over the season.
how bad was the dive?
...
lawrenson said it was a dive. that's 100% proof for me.
they should start docking points for that sort of stuff.
some clubs have no class.
fair play to mcleish though:
"The referee got [the penalty decision] wrong. Peter Walton is a great referee but he must have been unsighted. It wasn't even iffy. It's part of the game though. We take it on the chin and move forwards."
he'd be a good manager for liverpool. at least guarantee them a europa league finish.
He sounded completely drunk.
We don't want someone like that in charge of the team.
Since every club engages in it
all clubs have no class
you would say that.
i can seldom remember Manchester City players diving.
I'd get that retrograde amnesia checked out
franny lee
the first and the best
basically, if a fit Torres was playing that would be a win
even considering the half time scoreline. It's a cliche, but no fit Torres and no fit Gerrard equals no delivery of half chances or 90th minute heroics
I was thinking that
listening to the commentators describe who the (half) chances were falling to in the box - kuyt, lucas, reira, ngog. Torres would've got at least one of those.
If Modric hadn't broken his leg we would be top.
In other news, my uncle has just had his bollocks removed.
well, the point is that they have no replacement
just like you have no replacement for Modric. That's why you're both shit teams, and destined to fail
^ this.
We can call on players like Benjani, that's the difference, quality througout.
Spurs would be twice the team if they had Benjani
a 20 million bid should do it, though he'd probably reject them. He knows where both teams are headed
we do, we signed krankjar
and he's looked very promising when he's played.
its just mr redknapp seems to think robbie keane is the best left mid since jose dominguez.
Liverpool's next six games...
Man City (h)
Debrecen (a)
Everton (a)
Blackburn (a)
Fiorentina (h)
Arsenal (h)
I fancy they to win a couple of them but still, they're pretty much all must-win, and they're racking up injuries.
5 league points
i got two bets on them
one to get to next stage of champions league, the other to win the europa league.
im pretty sure one will happen, and to quote Elbow "the odds that i got were exquisite"
they won't win the europa league....
well then lets hope they qualify for the CL
They'll beat City
i'd put the farm on it
draw, i reckon.
27 more, on the trot.
It's debatable from those league games whether they could get 1 point or 10
well they could win them all.
i think the timing of the games is more key than the opponents themselves. Liverpool are well capable of beating any of those teams, but City's game at Anfield for instance, three days before their must-win game in Debrecen, so you wonder if they'll play all of Torres, Gerrard, Johnson and Benayoun.
Then the weekend after that midweek CL game, albeit on the Sunday, the merdeyside derby. Their second must-win CL game is in the week between trips to Blackburn and a tough game against Arsenal, who really haven't played badly all season.
One off games, with their players fit, i'd maybe fancy Liverpool to win all those, but with priorities, and injuries, i dunno, they could be in for a rough ride. It might even come down to them having to sacrifice those league games to ensure Champions League qualification, something which their fans might baulk at, but they're almost out of both.
Well....
Obviously from a financial perspective finishing in the top 4 is more important than getting through to the last 16 of the CL I would have thought. Therefore they should prioritise the league games, but even if they did say only take 1 point from those 4 games, neither City, Spurs or Villa would be way clear of them in the race for 4th. Even if they did go out of the CL, it's not the end of the world, and a strong second half to the season could see them still snatch 4th in the league and maybe even win the FA Cup.
