100 films of the decade?
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6902642.ece
Thoughts? Omissions? Anyone hazard to guess my favourite (might help me work out which is my favourite as I just realised Fight Club was '99!?)

nice to see Grizzly Man up there.
what is Control doing in the top 100?
Seen 32 of them
Some awful, awful films in that list. Knocked Up? Seriously?
I second the surprise at Control's inclusion. Rubbish film.
what an awful list
what the fuck is going on in 5-9...jaysus
that really highlights the banality of list culture...just...pfft...fucking pointless.
2000 words on why hidden is the film of the decade...yes please.....20 words on why forrest whittakar did a good acting in the most overated film of the decade...not for me.
also
65/100
could do better
that's pretty respectable
that's pretty respectable
23/100.
I can't think of one great film made in the last ten year. Come to think of it, i can't think of one made in the last twenty.
Of those i've seen...
Great:
Good: City of God, Anchorman, Chopper, 28 Days Later, Man on Wire, This is England, Casino Royale
Okay: Control
Shit: Bowling For Columbine, Pan's Labyrinth, Sean of the Dead, Knocked Up, Little Ms Sunshine, Dark Knight, Lost In Translation, Gladiator, Donnie Darko, Borat, Slumdog Millionaire, Team America, Grizzly Man, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum
Definitely the shittest decade in cinematic history.
Pan's Labyrinth is "shit"?
Care to expand on that?
awful film for kids and birds.
oh sorry
I didn't realise you are a dick.
oh sorry
fortunately we've all already written you off as a troll.
can I have a cuddle?
( I really have no clue what you're talking about )
Your film views make your music views look sensible
also for any film fans
have you used this site? i quite like it, be good when they get the rights to more movies http://www.theauteurs.com/users/134830
No Country...
good to see Bad Santa in that list. Anchorman is awful. And no White Chicks!
is this list on order? cos it's bullshit. And some of my favourite films - Turtles Can't Fly and Fucking Amal for example - aren't in this list. Because it's bullshit. But yeah, pretty great decade for films huh. Screw the h8ers
Anchorman is not awful
it's a modern-day classic.
oh and seen i think 56 or the 100
White Chicks is one of the worst films i've ever seen
where the fuck is Zoolander? Rambo 4 deserves a mention for being the best action film released in the last 10 years.
i've seen 35 of the films on that list.
second you on Rambo
zoolander isn't that great. white chicks is immense.
*Turtles Can Fly
idk.
Gladiator, The Lives of Others, Downfall, Up, Monsters Inc., There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Lost in Translation, Michael Clayton, The Bourne Ultimatum, Eastern Promises, Wall-E, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Ghost World, Being John Malkovich, Slumdog Millionaire, The Darjeeling Limited. I liked those ones.
off the top of my head, a few bigger films i think deserved places over the likes of last king of scotland etc,
atonement, juno, inglorious basterds, superbad.
opinion dividers sure....but i'm a fan of these and more character than a lot of the fluff on that list
No Station Agent </3
Or Snakes on a Plane
Massive fail.
ive seen 29
dont have time to go through them all
Glad to see some love for Morvern Callar, even if it is pretty low down
Also, would've expected to see There Will Be Blood higher up.
(54/100)
Omissions
They totally ignored Darren Aronofsky; Richard Linklater's only represented by School of Rock, but what about Before Sunset or Waking Life (and arguably A Scanner Darkly too)? And Lady Vengeance but not Oldboy. Seriously?
oh wow, no Old Boy? that's insane.
33/100
I actually thought it was quite a good list, although the popularity of No Country For Old Men will always surprise me but otherwise I can agree with most of the choices there.
I was slightly surprised Lucky Number Slevin didn't make the cut.
Is Jurassic Park there?
If so, well, I'm happy.
WHERE THE FUCK IS JURASSIC PARK?!
School of rock? WTF.
Jurassic Park isn't as recent as you think it is
ohhhhhhhh it said decade
i didn't even notice that. fail.
in the list of best 90s films
yes yes
i've acknowledged my fail. move along people
the royal tenenbaums is crazy low considering
it's influenced just about every indie movie ever made since.
lists like these are daft anyway.
has there been a Time Out list? that'll be worth reading. but yeah it's been a dire decade hasn't it? really awful.
oh and Star Trek wipes the floor with The Dark Knight.
oh and where's ZODIAC?
no ZODIAC and yet School of Rock is in there???????
I think I've seen about 42 of those
The 42 most mainstream stupid ones, obviously...
Go Team America!
ummmmm
amelie???
For a broadsheet newspaper, that's not a bad list, I suppose.
I think that there's about a dozen films that I haven't seen.
There's few films that I would have liked to see in there (something by Aronofsky, Primer, Before Sunset, Oldboy, Zatoichi, Infernal Affairs, Crouching Tiger, 36, Uzak, American Splendor, Wolf Creek, Brick, A Quiet American & Dodgeball), and there are some that I think deserve no place in any top 100 of the decade (Devil Wears Prada, Crash, Traffic, Wedding Crashers, Control, Knocked Up, Little Miss Sunshine), but an argument can be made for the rest of them.
only 35 i've seen
(although that's not really surprising as i mostly watch older films)
it's a decent enough list, i think it's pretty useless to focus exclusively on personal tastes when it comes to something like this - it's what has had the biggest impact or influence. it doesn't really matter if you think that for example anchorman is a shit film, there's not really any denying its iconic status in this decade.
something that i found more interesting than this list however (was going to make a thread but i guess i forgot) was empire's 10 biggest icons of the decade issue (with 10 different front covers as well!). because it was so focused (on film characters, like harry potter or the joker) it was easier to understand the thought progress behind it etc. and it was obviously more in depth.
55/100
not bad.
some shocking choices in there.
also, 'Hidden' is a total bag of shite.
That list is absolutely ridiculous.
Slumdog, The Queen, LKOS in the top 10, err biased much? What a joke.
