BOXING SATURDAY (David Haye vs. Nikolai Valuev)
Valuev, with a head like a fossilized egg and knuckles like medieval bollocks...I think the Soviet Bear is going to strip Hayes gloves with the ferocity of a bear peeling the upstream salmom.
Mart? Your opinion? I know you're an avid spectator of the boxing battlefield.

I don't usually like boxing
in fact I never watch it but this fight has got my attention. It won't exactly be a conventional boxing match, the guy's 7ft 2", 7ft fucking 2 :o
I want Haye to win.
But there's too many things that can go wrong, and I think Haye will go out too hard early on, gas out and get worn down by Valuev's massive jab. Given the difficulty of getting decisions in Germany, he's also going to have to knock him out, and I'm not sure he can do that. Holyfield got close to beating Valuev but got cheated out by the judges having done most of the work in a dull fight.
Valuev to win by decision IMO.
...
Valuev on points or a 7th round haye ko
Man, I'm completely torn
Half of me thinks Haye is going to get knocked out in the first, and the other things he's gonna chop the Russian beast down. Head says Valuev, heart says Haye - knowing my luck it'll be 12 boring rounds and a Valuev UD.
Valuev by KO
Not that I know shit about boxing. Hayes' game is going to be about trying to get Valuev to lash out and I just can't see it working.
^^^ Defiantely not this
Most KO's are achieved by persistant punishment to the cranium. I doubt Haye's LAT's could cope with the stretching required for constant head shots.
Haye is a KO artist and is known for his knock outs...
... which happen very quickly and seemingly from the brink of defeat. Obviously this won't happen against Valuev, but still, he's got the power -

(especially the last one)
Mart
I know fuck all about boxing.
Is Haye actually any good...or is he only good because he's one of the best of a bad bunch?
Haye's a world class Cruiserweight boxer
which is the weight class below heavyweight. He has amazing speed, knock out power, decent jab and good movement. The trouble is, he has a delicate chin and has been floored by people much smaller than himself, let alone Valuev.
If Valuev was six inches smaller he wouldn't be in boxing anymore. Don't get me wrong, he's decent but wouldn't be near the top 75 heavies of all time.
In any other fight, Haye would clinch it
It's just the enormity of his contender that's going to fuck him. And the fact that Valuev has a surprisingly amount of speed for someone with a sluggers build.
I know that.
Didn't really answer my question though. Just wandering if Haye and the beast man thing are actually good.
I was partaking in a dialogue with Mart
Then you chipped in. Which is fine, but don't get snarky when I miss your post.
I don't know what snarky means
but I just thought you were replying to me seeing as it was directly below my post. This forum layout still confuses me.
Valuev is a fucking plodder!
Lol.
Can you blame him? He's lugging round 21st of anatomical cargo.
?
I mean Valuev to win. Have I used boxing terminlogy wrong? Shit.
Sorry mate, I read it wrong.
I thought you meant the Russian was going to get sparked.
Anybody know the ACTUAL starting time of the fight
i've heard all sorts of times, most recently 9.30.
Haye has to imagine himself as fighting the big boss at the end of a level on a video game, going in and giving lots of punches then stepping back in the corner to recover health.
10:15
Anywhere
to watch this online?
Anyone know whenhighlights are showing?
Too skint for sky box office.
^ or the entire fight, even. highlights makes it sound like football...
Would appreciate a working link...
Cheers.

don king
is a fucking chump
who the fuck
are this shit band?
man this is gonna be off the hook
Trying to work out who Valuev looks like
Someone offered up a union of Neanderthal Man and the burly ex-Czech striker Jan Koller.
i think he looks like zidane.
Jan Koller! That's it.
If anyone wants a live stream of the fight

good find.
a Robin Reid decision coming up...
awful 'fight'
i thought it was completely engrossing
if you want firework fists rent a rocky
must agree actually
but then again i enjoyed that all italian champions league final a few years back when it ended 0-0 and everyone called it a yawn fest - i saw it as a tactical battle of the highest order.
I enjoyed Haye bouncing around and making Valuev look so bog standard.
i prefer my boxing matches to involve boxing
cool
Get in.
:D
Triumph of skill over power.
woot! haye wins
not sure about the overall result. feels like a moral victory though
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
BOOM.
eurgh
neither of them deserved anything
Haye promised a spectacular victory.
All he gave us was a victory, really.
Well done to him, though. Just to go 12 rounds with Goliath takes a huge pair of steel balls.
Like I've said, I'm no boxing expert
but I thought that was a pretty dull match. That last round won it deservedly for Haye but I was surprised at how unadventurous he was in the first five rounds. Where was that knockout you promised us all, David?
Boxing experts: was that a relatively poor match? Or am I just being a n00b?
It was poor.
It's the heavyweight division. Par for the course.
Cool
I thought, given my support of Chelsea, that I knew a victory following an uninspiring performance when I saw one. Just wanted some confirmation...
it was poor
but you can't blame him for being cautious really. He said he hurt his hands in the second round so couldn't go on the attack so had to be cautious.
Why was everyone expecting catherine wheels?
It was a heavyweight bout. It was a heavyweight bout that engaged the pundits with technically astute tacticality from Haye, and slow moving mechanical jabs from Captain Forehead and his befuddled stomach.
Stuff like this?

Again, I can't stress how little I usually follow boxing. I was suckered in by the hype and didn't realise slightly-violent chess was the normal order of things. Maybe other people didn't either.
he was hardly gonna turn round and say
"i'm gonna teach Valuev a lesson.........and win on a narrow points decision" - that would have hardly put the frighteners on Valuev would it?
Dunno, pal
Bumbler asked a question, I did my best to provide a reasonable answer. Not much more to it for me.
That said, Valuev didn't trash talk.
''slightly-violent chess''
That's a perfect description of these heavyweight bouts.
Look at the smaller weight divisions if you want kinistetic rapsody.
I wanted BLOOD
My voyeuristic peeking into blokey stuff didn't pay off as I'd dreamed
If you want blood and chess....look no further than micky....

maybe i haven't watched enough boxing
and maybe i was seduced by the personality and the spectacle...but i thought that was real good stuff
I love technical boxers
i admire someone who has a job to do and does it. It's methodical. It's clinical. Haye probably couldn't knock out a 7ft2 beast...who can? He did what he had to.
...and the fact that it's the first time he's ever gone the distance
..and it might transpire he broke his hand....i'm full of admiration for haye
the angles just weren't there for Haye.
no way he could've landed much more than he did, and even if he had, the big lump's got tree-like legs. He'll never get stopped, or put down.
Can everyone stop saying it was a boring fight?
It's a lame excuse for uncultured idiots - the same sort who think soccer is boring when bicycle kicks aren't being scored every ten seconds.
Was an intense, amazing fight, fascinating in a lot of ways. The constant fear that Valuev was gonna crush him, the gradual realisation that Haye was just too fast and quick, the spaghetti legs in round twelve...
Funny really as heavyweight clashes are supposed to be quick and exciting (and Haye's next fight against John Ruiz will be exactly that) but this was just proper epic. I had Haye about eight rounds up. Fuck the world, world champion!
spot on
i actually whooped with glee with every one of Haye's ducks and weaves. It was great.
The way he dropped his hands 3/4 through the fight
was outstanding, so much bravado it was classic
with this in mind...
don't you think Dirrel should've got the decision against Froch?
Not at all
Cos when Froch was tracking Dirrel he was actually hitting him whereas Valuev was hitting pure air
Think Calzaghe/Hopkins
Now imagine if all Calzaghe's slaps weren't even hitting Hopkins
I disagree.
Froch spent most of that fight punching shadows. Dirrel made him look like an old man. Even with my staunchest British head on i could only stretch it to a draw.
Just wait till he gets sparked by Kessler
I agree with every word of this - http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/nov/08/david-haye-world-champion
"Valuev...trundled forward like a building on wheels, chasing down a wasp"
;D
Brilliant.
it was the boxing equivalent of a test match
i.e. Brilliant.
Haye
was brilliant tonight and moved with speed and reactions of a welterweight, when he rocked Valuev in the 12th the pub i was in erupted in applause, i have no voice left. What more could you want??..... Ok, so a pic of Haye standing over a KO'd Valuev on the front cover of every paper would have been nice but it was never going to happen.
so much
that little stuttering faltering stagger in the 12th....absolutely priceless...and then he shook his head as if to say...'nah...that didn't just happen'...but we'd all seen him with the jelly legs. brilliant. i was just so impressed with his stamina...if that's his first time going the distance....to look so sharp and so quick when ducking and weaving after 12...especially to keep getting out of the corners so well. and there was a real thunderbolt of a hook that almost took haye's head off in around the tenth i think and he was sharp as fuck in getting out the way....good stuff. boy deserves all the acolades he's gonna get i rekon.
any form of highlights around? i saw the 2 second coverage BBC had, left wanting a little more.
i wouldn't hold your breath over the next week
...with sky still repeating the fight on box office
best best is some moody youtube footage....can't seen any news channel having it
Did anyone else notice Haye prematurely raising his victory fist 10 seconds before round 12 was finished?
