Phil Jagielka is INJURED! front page of bbc football, wowzers! Chelsea this Chelsea that, Robinhos going and staying, Shawcross doesn't want to play for Utd and Torres is going to pretend he's not injured.
Bring on Monday night.
Who's going where to watch what, i'm not going to any games this weekend? rubbish
oh yeah Scotland, Rangers today, Celtic tomorrow.

I've never been so confident about us beating Utd
which worries me slightly.
I've got a bad feeling about this afternoon.
Straight off the back of an excellent midweek display, newly promoted side and the opportunity to catch at least one of United and Chelsea this weekend. Has dropped points written all over it.
Poor effort. Lacking predictions.
Looking forward to the FA Cup games.
We've got Burnley at the Home of Football. If we don't win we're rubbish.
Villa 2 Bolton 0
Blackburn 2 Pompey 0
City 3 Burnley 0
Spurs 2 Sunderland 2
Wolves 1 Arsenal 2
Chelsea 1 United 1
Hull 1 Stoke 1
West Ham 1 Everton 2
Wigan 1 Fulham 1
Liverpool 2 Birmingham 0
Also, United will get at least a point at the Samsung @ Stamford Bridge Stadium.
You know
I wouldn't mind that name. If we're going to be sponsored even more, it'd be nice if it was by a current sponsor.
sorry Kik i said a while back i can't be bothered predicting them all i was shocked to see you hadn't
put an effort up at 7am today.
If i must pick one result Liverplol 1 - 1 Birmingham
something about blowing....
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00923/SNF06BIZB2G_280_1__923169a.jpg
only three of our first eleven are out tomorrow
which is probably as strong as we're going to get. not confident though.
kinda hope he'll play Obertan, though its likely he'll get merked we need a touch of excitement or unpredictability
Did Football Focus
just use the Mitchell & Webb football hype sketch to illustrate Chelsea-Man Utd while doing exactly the same thing?
yes they did! tongues firmly in cheek, brilliant.
Villa 1 Bolton 1
Blackburn 3 Pompey 0
City 4 Burnley 1
Spurs 4 Sunderland 2
Wolves 0 Arsenal 4
Chelsea 1 United 2
Hull 1 Stoke 1
West Ham 1 Everton 3
Wigan 2 Fulham 0
Liverpool 1 Birmingham 0
Come on City
Need to get back on track. We should stuff Burnley if things go well.
I'd be surprised if United can beat Chelsea on current form. United have looked unable to physically dominate games in the middle of the park this season, and there are no better teams around at doing that than Chelsea at the moment. So much experience and power in the middle.
I had dream last night
Terry scored a header from a corner 5 minutes in and we went on to win 4-1. 430-1. Gonna have to put a quid on that. Mind you, I did also dream that I lived in a giant balloon in Zanzibar and kittens ruled all of Eurasia.
Anyway, I think tomorrow will be edgy. I think Utd could be a bit cloggerish, at least for the thirst 20 or so minutes. I don't think it's wise to come at Chelsea at home right now. We score first and I think it'll be over. Utd are still a quality team though so I'm not sure why so many pundits think it's a foregone conclusion.
500-1 on skybet
Whammy!

Is that what Carlton Cole will be wearing next season?
Good to see Pardew back on the beeb after the rapegate incident.
not sure i expected to be discussing pardew below this pic, but...
yeah sensible chap good commentator too not sure he's really got the bottle for management at the top but a likable fella.
i'm not particulary arsed about him personally
don't dislike him/like him greatly either way.
I'm just hoping he'll come out with more unexpected lingo. "David James - epic fail"...or "LOL at vidic!"......etc etc
I bloody love mick mccarthy
i hope that was said in a thick norrrrth'n accent
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00924/SUPERGOALS280_924014a.jpg
off to dover vs newport county
as long as we can keep a lid on our increasing leaky defence, might have enough firepower to leapfrog them. this is the true top of the table clash of the weekend regardless.
Could be a good match this
Good luck and all (even though you've tonked us in both fixtures this season. Grrr...;)
Andy Preece kindly piss off.
we (port vale) have got stevenage borough at home
in the first round of the cup. it's a potential 'banana skin' for sure, they are unbeaten in fifteen games i think, but we aren't going badly either so i think we'll scrape a narrow 2-1 win. i reckon i might have to don my hiking boots for the first time this season today - but football is always better when you are freezing your knackers off!
Dorchester have a tricky away tie to Havant & Waterlooville
Don't really fancy our chances but you never know as they've just dished out a seven goal beat down midweek.
Gleeeeeeeeeeeeeees!
:)
Lowestoft have Wrexham in the first round of the FA Cup
things could get interesting if we win this.
"Paulton have acquitted themselves well"
No, Jim, they haven't, or else they wouldn't be losing 7-0 at home.
Aldershot v Bury in the FA Cup
We normally get nowhere in this competition, so probably a 0-2 home defeat.
A bit late for a tip now...
But hopefully a few of you went big on Cambridge to beat Ilkeston at home in the Cup today. Ilkeston have an injury ravaged side and only one on the bench. Cambridge shortened from 1.59 to sub 1.5 on Betfair which IMO is still pretty good.
Cambridge 1-0 Ilkeston already.
C'mon the U's.
Ipswich have scored
so we're back in the bottom 3 :(
Man City
:'D
This week was clearly not the best one to make Given my fantasy football captain
That's ruined a few accas.
1-2.
c'mon Burnleh!
:/
Well we're looking naff.
Wouldn't be surprised if we ended up turning around though.
turning it* around
oh well
at least Toure and Wright-Phillips got on the scoresheet for my fantasy team.
Posh getting a dicking unsuprisingly
Probably the first game of the season where I could see no way of getting anything near a result. Bottom of the league :(
Needs more Danny Rose
He got hauled off at half-time.
He's been pretty terrible since he came in on loan. He played 65 minutes against Barnsley last week and hardly touched the ball. Runs fast though...
To be fair, he's probably a good player, just not the sort of player you need when you're bottom of the league...
This is Spurs game is mad
'Sign of a good team etc etc' winning when being outplayed and all that so credit to Spurs but Sunderland have been absolutely pummeling them. How the fuck did they just go 2-0 down?
because we used to have every single one of their attacking players
and they're not very good at scoring?
Heh
Fair point. You take your chances, you score, you win, you deserve to win. Simple I suppose. I'm just in awe of Sunderland's absolute inability to score despite imperiously controlling the game.
I'm looking forward to seeing Thuddlestones strike on MOTD
and Bolton are getting thumped.
Fucking City
:')
How the fuck have we got away with that one?
I suppose this kinda makes up for the Stoke game last week.
Spurs play well - they lose.
Spurs are shit - they win.
I knew
we'd give Burnley an equaliser. I just KNEW it.
Why the fuck bring Petrov on and put him on the right, and then when SWP is actually having an effective game for once, push him over to the left?! ffs.
Lucky to get a point today.
Burnley were much the better side in the first half, played right through us. Definite penalty, awful second goal to concede. At that point i'd have snapped your hands off for a draw but very disappointing in the circumstances.
Came out second half, played quite well, as soon as the third went in it all looked over. Burnley really did nothing in the last 45 until they scored. Looked like it was in the bag, any normal team would've pushed on and got a 4th and put the game beyond doubt.
Still only lost once in 15 games but we're not playing at all well. We should be a win off the top now, bad defending is really costing us. Manchester City shouldn't be dropping points at home to anyone, doesn't matter if it's Barcelona, Burnley, or Bridgend.
should be a win off the top? you are clearly deluded.
So you're saying that those draws should have actually been wins to city, come off it pal.
the two at home against Fulham and Burnley?
when we were winning and threw both games away?
Yeah i'm saying they should've been fucking wins, you clown.
well you lost to Fulham at home last year so a point this year is an improvement, money well spent.
Anyway by your logic of being 2 down against burnley you should win, so fulham at 2 up equally should win. I wasn't really looking to analyse all the coulds and shoulds of man citys season just that you may find that you've been a little lucky to have accumulated some of the points you actually have and are not a team that should be one win off the top, although i realise you also know this you're just being a bit of a clown too.
We've not been lucky yet.
We deserved nothing more or less than a point at Villa, Wigan or Birmingham. Poor performances against shit sides playing equally as poorly.
Holding City to a goalless draw might be the highlight of your season, you've been going on about it ever since, but i expect Manchester City to win all their home games, simple as that, especially when in front. Two goals down doesn't really come into it, we were leading in both fixtures and should have seen them out.
Had we defended just a little better in our last two home games we'd be a win off joint-top, that's not my opinion, it's a fact. I've not said the performances have warranted it, but there are so many shit teams in this division, even those around us, that i wouldn't be getting my knickers in a twist over it. Arsenal aside i'm not sure there's an exciting team in the league, certainly hasn't been over the last few weeks.
yes 'holding' city to a nil nil has made my year, i was happier when villa lost to west ham
Jermain Defoe then, a bit of a dirty player, you know the sort from the bergkamp mould,
can i get away with elbowing him in the face and scoring? I don't know that he needed to make contact with Gordon really, and Shearer come off it, "i think he's entitled to slide in actually". You can go too far protecting keepers but y'know....(not really sure where i'm going with this now, football!)
not here....
Wolves are playing really well so far
They're still probably going to be dicked on
Yep
Comical own goal. Arsenal will win 3, 4-nil now
Ramsey
is top. He's gonna be a genuinely top class midfielder one day.
He looks pretty good
The game changed instantly. Arsenal were being played off the ball up until the goal but have had 3 or 4 chances since. Poor Wolves.
Stunning goal
says OG here?
it was
Eduardo attempted a chip. would have been great if it was entirely him - but it craddock deflected the chip on target so it looped just inside the post.
Yeah
Looked stunning in real time, slightly less so in the replay
another own goal
haha - you completely cursed them
Ooops
Well, I'm only watching til half-time and then I'm off out. Maybe they're luck will improve without me watching
*their
3-0
stoke win tomorrow and i win 20 quid
leeds & arsenal keep their leads & fulham & chelsea win tomorrow, i get 70.
if i dont win anything this weekend i'll be fuming.
now that's
a beautiful arsenal goal. Gonna be a rout I think.
really nice performance and a good win at help christen
the sportsdirect.com@St.James Park Stadium
also this should be the last word on it
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/nov/07/dara-o-briain-sportsdirectcom-newcastle
We played well
And to be honest, the score should've been higher. It would've been if Jonas hadn't gone off early. He would have scored again.
did he do the much hyped spiderman?
Nah
To be honest, it's been so long since he scored he's probably forgotten what to do. It was a cracking goal, even if he got a little lucky with the finish. Carroll's header from Guthrie's corner was great too, although Simpson's goal was definitely a mishit cross. Carroll, Smith, Guthrie and Enrique were our best players today.
a certainty...
with his 1-in-45 ratio.
We had no chance
By all accounts we we're lucky to keep it to three. Bottom of the league for the next two weeks... I'm not sure what Ferguson is supposed to do about it
Sounds like we absolutely battered Spurs
but if you can't score, you're more than likely going to get beat.
I'd wager if Jones hadn't got himself sent off against West Ham, we'd have won today.
Spurs really aren't that good.
It's been too long since the game's seen a proper hatchet man
Who knew, though, that it'd be a female player in a junior league game in New Mexico: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNmPybFK2_o
yeaaaa
3-1, allardyce still needs to fuck off mind.
LOL @ wayne bridges crazy forward runs
and John Motson needs to be put down. awful.
Bridge wasn't fit to play.
Can't even begin to work out why Hughes didn't go with Sylvinho, or even move Lescott over and bring Vince Kompany in.
He's been our most consistent player this season, but a bad day at the office.
Goal of the month coming up
Nominees? I hope Drogba's goal against Bolton is in there. Probs not a winner, mind.
the thiird Arsenal goal today was pure quality. exquisite
That ref's first assist of the season too
eh?
Third goal was the move that was started when the ref inadvertedly
blocked a Wolves pass, wasn't it?
ah right.
i just seen the goals on the internets there, didn't see the initial passage of play. missed the match unfortunately. i'll be cheering for Chelsea tomorrow, not often i can say that
If you're going to be a Chelsea fan for just one day
I think tomorrow might be a good day for it (we'll lose 4-0 now)
City are in danger of turning into Del Trotter.
Flashing lots of cash about, but basically tin pot. Hughes certainly might consider working in training with the defence at some stage.
wash your fucking mouth out, bonehead.
Del Trotter is NOT tinpot.
Also
Gary Cahill has been absolutely shit every time I've seen him. Even in highlights. I'm presuming he's good other times though.
OH DEAR JOHN TERRY
why don't you give your parents some money, eh?
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/587550/John-Terrys-dad-sells-cocaine-in-bar.html
a family of scumbags.
drug dealing dad, shoplifting mum, mercinary son.
so glad we chose not to sign him.
no class
looks like he's going to prison.. the rotters better get to work on their songs for tomorrow
if we had signed him, though...
we'd probably have about five more points now and be joint second, on account of him, even though he's a bobbins, being less shit than Joleon Lescott, and Wayne Bridge probably've been too shit-scared of him to make mongy mistakes.
Oh my
What a prat. And hang on, who does this fucker support? I remember arguing with kik, saying the Terry family were Hammers and kik linked to an autiobiography that said they were Man Utd. Fucks sake.
Terry and his grandad support Man United.
At least that's what i think it said in Terry's official autobiography.
"I mean, he's a f***ing multi- millionaire. You don't pay 40 quid a gram for s*** when you're a f***ing multi-millionaire!"
Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon fractures arm against Tottenham
Jermain Defoe then, a bit of a dirty player, you know the sort from the bergkamp mould,
can i get away with elbowing him in the face and scoring? I don't know that he needed to make contact with Gordon really, and Shearer come off it, "i think he's entitled to slide in actually". You can go too far protecting keepers but y'know....(not really sure where i'm going with this now, football!)
shearer
was the worst player in the premier league for hitting people with elbows from crosses, but always got away with it cos he was englands number one. until he wasnt, then he started to get sent off for it.
apparently
lots of people were scared of Shearer. He's literally as hard as fuck. Everyone in Newcastle feared him. Just a proper fighter. He would have absolutely shat on Keane.
So then football cage fight, every player to ever play is available aged 28 who wins?
One of those early 80s hard men from when players weren't arrested all the time, probably
Mark Dennis, Robert Hopkins, someone like that.
Duncan Ferguson would have a go i reckon
shearer would do well
you can blatantly tell he would eye gouge.
Matty Taylor would not do well. Keane would be too busy jacking off his dog. That aside - probs some crazy south american.
Berbatov out for today
FUCK. been in his best form at man utd over the past 4-5 games. no chance of seeing 4-4-2 now. probably have to go with;
o'sheasy-vidy-evey-evey
valency-scholes wolesy/andy-carrick-fletchy-naniny
rooneyny
we're gonna get creamed. i hope to fuck vidic and fletcher are fit and not just there on merit. really could do with Hargreaves or Park in midfield. and it shows how low confidence is that a lot of Man Utd fans (including me) are wanting Obertan to get a first start.
3-0 chelsea imo.
i hope so
even more than ever against man utd. 70 quid potentially.
Shirt pulling, ref!
This Cup game is entertaining for many reasons, few of which are to do with high quality play.
bitch be crazy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC-pF3OHY1c
HANDBAGS!
Celtic - relegation candidates?
good stuff there Northwich
stoke just lost me 20 quid.
fulham losing.
could be an awful day.
fucking godawful day for me, already
Celtic have screwed me rotten. Only saver is a Chelsea win
Leeds at home!
Good to see Burnley showing $ity up at Beasthands yesterday.
I've got £1 on Drogba to score first and it to be 2-2. £70. COME ON.
I'm a blue today though. I think if they rape United they can cruise to the title with ease. I hope they do, anyway.
how cheesy is that sky sports line up thing where the players walk up to the camera like gimps?
JESUS
..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U73VYXir0Ls
what a guy
Brilliant
is Ballack wearing a poppy?
*cough*
oh you
fergie to complain
because the referee didnt add time on to the one minutes silence because of the coughing
Why aren't United wearing poppies?
That's a bit twatish
poppy fascist
no class.
wouldn't happen at City
rooney clear through then and not offside
pretty clear cut penalty not given too
then terry heads ball out of play and its a goal kick. we needs a bit of luck methinks
you got a corner that didn't touch a chelsea player
and drogba just got penalised for a foul on brown in the area that never was. Not as serious, no, but you're hardly being unfortunate. The offside was tight. Every team has one of those go against them in each game.
Rooney to Barca for £85mil
obviously
been worst player in a man utd shirt yet again
except perhaps giggs. i'd take it.
you're kidding right
you'd be nowhere without rooney these days
do you watch our games?
he's one of the most inconsistent players around, he's done literally nothing since the Spurs game. plenty times when he should just take a player on and take a shot and he just fumbles an easy pass.
if he wasn't in the team
you'd know how much you'd miss him. Who the fuck is gonna replace him? Owen? LOL
He IS your best player
ps - hasn't he scored around 10 already
this season too? Just a rough guess, but it must be close to that
yeah
of which one has come since the spurs game.
inconsistent, as i said. not calling him shit, just goes too many games without doing anything
you seem to be forgetting that your whole team has been pretty
shit and inconsistent recently too....not just rooney
nah
our teams been average-good. with rooney the peaks and troughs are massive, and theres too many troughs.
so what do you do
drop rooney and play owen? :/
nothing you can do
and rooney is suppposed to be one of the best forwards in the world, he should deliver much more often
that article was written by Chris Bascombe, formerly of the Liverpool Echo
the same Chris Bascombe who also wrote this:
"In most cases, paying £12m for a teenager would be considered rank stupidity, over-indulgence or, at the very least, a gamble which even Chris Kirkland's dad would shy away from.
When Manchester United do it, it's a stroke of transfer genius.
According to everyone who they make listen, United have just signed the best teenager in the world. By God are we hearing about it.
I'm not doubting Ronaldo's abilities. Clearly he's a talented kid who may be on the threshold of greatness. It just strikes me as rather odd that no-one has given the same attention to Liverpool's equally stunning new teenage recruit.
It seems Gerard Houllier's mistake with Anthony Le Tallec was to buy him early rather than delay until everyone in Europe wanted him. Obviously, Liverpool should have waited until Le Tallec's value was £12m.
Soon enough, the rest of the nation will wake up to the fact Le Tallec and Ronaldo played in the same world youth championships not so long ago and it was the Liverpool new boy who was voted the best player.
No doubt both Gerard and Mr Ferguson watched those same youth championships in Malaysia a few years back and noticed the same players.
Indeed, Liverpool had already signed Le Tallec by then and were strongly linked with Ronaldo themselves, but can't afford to splash out like United.
Time will tell who's got the better deal, but for value for money I know who I'm backing. It's a bit like Houllier and Ferguson have both dined at the same top class restaurant and had their pick of the best main courses on the menu.
Houllier has managed to get his dish at a quarter of the cost Ferguson has paid, and yet it's his rival who is getting all the praise.
Indeed, I'm getting an eerie sense of deja vu when it comes to theman dubbed TLT who's about to explode onto the Premier League. I remember how slow our London based number one writers were to realise who Steven Gerrard was a few years back.
The Kop Magazine I once wrote even launched a campaign to get him in the England squad, so little attention was he receiving. Then, when the rest of the country noticed a year later, they decided to make him their own property.
It was a similar story with Wayne Rooney at Everton. A friend of mine who works on a national newspaper tried to get a feature on Rooney into his paper in the summer of 2002. They were having none of it. How times changed three months later when "Rooney Opens Crisp Packet" stories were making the front page.
Le Tallec won't get the same attention as Rooney, Gerrard or Michael Owen because he ain't English. But the few glimpses I've had of him remind me so much of the first time I saw Gerrard.
So young, yet so full of class. So clearly ready to play at the highest level and begin the learning curve which will take him to the top of the game.
One of the most encouraging, but sadly overlooked parts of Sunday was Le Tallec's being named a sub. Pity he didn't get on, although Houllier said he was prepared to play the youngster if the circumstances of the game had been different.
The career paths of Le Tallec and Ronaldo are sure to cross regularly over the next decade. Should the French gem prove himself the better player, you never know, maybe the manager who signed him will get a bit of credit."
:)
:D
Alan Green just referred to Rooney's son Kia

aaahhhaaaaaaahahhhaa
Its Obertan time imo
this is dull as fuck
its not though, really
0-0
probably 1 more fleeting chance for each side
ends 0-0
yeah
great defensive performances, not like both teams have played for a draw.
neither side has played well though
Chelsea in particular have been useless
and now they're going to win it. Huh
Martin Atkinson 1 Man Utd 0
fucking awful reffing today
it's okay
he'll probably give you seven minutes of injury team as he usually does :)
time*
probably feels awful of all the silly injury time hes giving you in the past
nice of him to make him up. what a hero
yawn
obsessed
i reckon i post less about utd than you do about liverpool
gotta find something to entertain myself with this season while leeds predictably win & win & win. double for us this year
I forget who you support?
?
fuck me
that had to hurt
quite like evans after that
very few footballers that deserve being kicked in the chest. he's one.
hahaha
biggest joke in the league.
HAHAHAAHA
still pretty hard to celebrate. no other fixture in world football can claim half as many horrible people on one pitch
you're sounding a bit mental
is it a persona?
twenty minutes too late that sub
also i take it you all saw that but amazing
http://twitter.com/#search?q=toothbrush
LOL!
Missed it. Gutted. Sounds amusing
hahahah
http://img691.yfrog.com/i/73113872.jpg/
absolute joke of a result
we'll play far worse and win games. Talk about the fucking 12th man, Atkinson barely got a single decision right all game.
it happens
you'll get plenty of dodgy decisions this season go in your favour. Deal with it!
yeah, and there'll no doubt be a two-week media inquest into those
one of the best things about beating man utd
is people like you whining about it. it's hilarious.
people in complaining about decisions going against their team shocker?
you can't deny that Atkinson was fucking awful today though
never a free-kick for the goal and a clear pen on Valencia in the first half
nah
im commenting on Ibzo's remark which makes it sound like Man Utd fans moan more than others
my post was aimed at him
I could have accepted the defeat if they'd deserved it (I didn't hold out much hope going into the game) but it was gifted to them by Atkinson.
meh
draw was deserved. more decisions going against us, but we've had our share in the past. much more against us than for us, but you can't argue we've got points from dubious decisions.
solid performance from man utd anyway, particularly defence and centre midfield. could have done with Rooney being a striker and Giggs being a winger, but i didnt think it would even be that close.
evans fly kicks drogba
and drogba gets a yellow card? insane. referee today was absolutely fucking shocking. so were man utd. so were chelsea. terrible match. glad we beat the cunts though.
Anti-football wins again.
Chelsea were awful today, awful, a team of absolute clumpers. United played quite well, kept the ball on the floor, passed it about nicely, much the better side. Chelsea bitty, overly-physical in a lower-league no-hopers kind of way, their pettiness rubbing off on the referee who went on to have a stinker. Drogba did nothing, NOTHING, Lampard absent, Anelka did well for about ten minutes in the first-half, so so boring. Didn't even know Deco was playing until the 61st minute.
I agree with what several have said on here, if that Chelsea side wins the title they'll be the poorest champions in Premier League history, and i say that as someone who despises United and quite likes Chelsea. Terrible to watch, i'm getting bored with this 'win at all costs' blandery, this is supposed to be the best league in the world, ffs.
fair points
think they've played some good footy this season, but definitely applicable to todays game
agree they were poor today
but to be honest, you're completely wrong Kansas.
Did you not see drogba's goal in the LAST GAME......obviously not. It was wonderful. They've played some nice stuff this year.
last two weeks, sure...
and at Sunderland.
I forgot the key incident...
1) Fletcher won the ball.
2) How someone stood three yards from goal who swings a foot at a ball which ends up in the net isn't interfering with play is beyond me.
Spot on
Also, on the second point, you can see Van der Sar hesitating because he doesn't know if Drogba's going to divert the ball or not. Plus Brown looked likely to get in the way if he hadn't been pushed over. Balls.
drogba looked onside anyway
when it was slowed down
By Brown's head, after he'd pushed him over?
;)
no way
chelsea this season look far better than utd did last season - in my opinion the poorest side to have won the league i've seen since properly watching football.
which, y'know, isnt THAT big of a criticism as they're competing against two chelsea walk-throughs of the league, very convincing wins from themselves the years before & incredible arsenal titles.
also
Drogbas epileptic fit=LOL
the sight of Drogba faking a seizure
was one of the lowest things I've ever seen in a football match
More or less everything Fletcher does
runs it a close second though.
?
I don't like him
Good player like, but very also pretty dirty. Not seen a replay yet but if he was unfairly penalised tonight I'll have no sympathy, given his usual game is basically just kicking people. Also, anyone who waves an imaginary card more than, say, 3 times in their professional career needs to be taken round the back of somewhere and shot.
aye, fair enough on the cards
no arguement there. dont think he is overly dirty. dirty for me anyway is making tackles behind the refs back, putting in challenges that there is no need for. he goes in hard, really hard, but i dont think he's at the level of say Alan Smith.
also, he seems to have his share of bad luck. the arsenal sending off, the penalty on weds when he got booked for diving and tonights when he made a perfectly good challenge being three high profile examples
he has a bigger impact on key games than Essien does, imo.
you could argue
that in Man Utd's last two BIG games he wasn't present though, whereas Essien scored a fantastic goal in the semi against barca.
its debatable, definitely
Contact sport, though, ennit.
Wouldn't say he was particular dirty, just annoying and niggly.
you'd have half a squad!
Ha
One of the few ills you see little of at Chelsea.
Ballack, Drogba, Deco, Carvalho, Ferreira, Mikel...
seen them all do it.
That's bollocks, and you know it.
It's not bollocks
I don't like him and I think he's often a nasty player. Not the nastiest but let's be honest, he's not in the Utd side because he's amazing on the ball or has a cracking shot on him. He's there to break play up.
can't believe he didn't get a yellow card today
Comment on Ivanovic's yellow card:
It really doesn't matter that he got the ball before the man. His studs were raised and about 2 feet off the ground; it was a reckless challenge at best and a yellow card was totally merited. Andy Gray is an idiot.
He's so old school
just kept banging on about how he 'touched the ball' - I don't think that really matters if you then rake your studs down someone's thigh!
The same Andy Gray who was bleating about Neville's similar challenge,
arguing that the fact that he got the ball made no difference.
Both bad challenges, both correct decisions.
What a cunt.
Shit happens.
Not really that many clear chances in the game, we played well, kept giving away silly free-kicks and could see it coming and it did. Ref was a bit odd but in a fairly even game it's easier to look to the decisions of the ref as pivotal. You've got to win the game and Chelsea did.
Not too worried overall 5 points at this stage isn't a mountain.
did anyone see this happen?
http://www.redcafe.net/f6/who-takes-toothbrush-match-274765/
the video, liek.
don't really care about the game now. brilliant.
whole room was in tears of laughter
highlight alongside the handbags.
the best part
is where he looks at something, leaves the brush in his mouth, then turns back round to his friend looking confused
Rubbish game.
Chelsea were shit. Utd were shit. Ref was shit. I'll still take 1-0 though.
I didn't think it was that bad.
SHIT in the last third, for the most part though, which I guess is what counts. It's better than the last few enconuters
There was just nothing to it
I'm surprised by some of the reporting of it tbh. The write-ups would have you believe Utd were very much on top. They had one effort that tested Cech and even that was from 30 yards out. Fair enough, they had a lot of posession but most of that was playing little triangles between Evra, Rooney and Giggs down the left that were never going anywhere. It was a mess of a game.
Meh.
Thought we outplayed Chelsea and deserved the victory, wouldn't have grumbled had we got a point, and think their fans would have agreed.
Shame really, thought it was a good game. Rooney looked hungry and played very well, gutted that we didn't get anything.
When we don't turn up, like we did against the dippers, it's so much easier to take. When we put in a solid performance and come away with nothing, I can't help but feel aggrieved.
Referee was poor, but none of the decisions were outrageous enough to warrant complaining about. Win some, lose some.
Ridiculous how hyped everyone was that the 'unbeatable' Chelsea were gonna walk over us. People (mostly the press) have such bad memories.
Proud of how we turned out today, annoyed that we can't raise our game like that against the scousers, when it means so much more.
Liverpool win tomorrow, they're 4 points of us, and we're 5 off Chelsea. Nobody is out of this title race, there are lots more points to be dropped.
Liverpool are out of it.
they were never in it.
As much as I'd like to think so,
if we're still in it, then they are.
They're a horrible team, and club, but it'd be foolish to write them off.
On a side note, we've got the same amount of points against "the big 4" as we did last season, so I'm not too worried.
they've got fewer points than spurs and villa
they're not as good as spurs or villa , and spurs and villa aren't very good, relatively.
if torres' hernia keeps him out they'll struggle to get 5th place.
I know this, if I say they're out of it then they'll probably come back and win it. So I'm playing safe ;)
For Utd to have outplayed Chelsea
they'd have had to have played. No-one 'played' tonight. Utd's right-winger spent the entire game man-marking a full-back for fuck's sake.
let them have their little victory
they outplayed us, well done them. we're five points clear tonight, so i'll let them have that one.
Gee, thanks.
There'll be parties on the streets tonight.
parties on the streets of surrey
Parties on the streets of Birmingham?
AHHH FUCKKK
lost so much money this weekend. Latest on the blacklist - Inter Cunting Milan
in other news, Lyon have come from 4-2 down against Marseille scoring a 5th in injury time. Now THAT is a top of the table clash
5-5!
deep into injury time
ffuuurrrckin hellll
Glad for the win, even though
both sides were way off their best. Fletcher is a horrible whining cunt of a player, telling the referee what to do all the time. United had no real cutting edge about them and just seemed to play for freekicks. Rooney is a marvel though.
The controversies, on seeing a replay
- The 'penalty'. Hmmm. Seen them given but I'd bet everything I own that Fergie would piss and moan if that was given against Utd. It's not 'stonewall'.
- The flying kick. Nasty stuff from Evans, deserves retrospective punishment. As for you lot laughing about the 'faked' seizure; ever had an athlete flying kick you square in the chest at full pelt? Nah, thought not.
- The freekick. Again, 50/50. None of this 'he took the ball' shit. We all know that it isn't just about taking the ball.
- The goal. Drogba probably fouls Brown there. As for the offside thing, I agree the not interfering rule is stupid. Fact is though, it's a rule that both teams can benefit from.
I still fail to see that Utd were really that much better than Chelsea. Chelsea hardly set the world alight but Utd were so negative.
Chelsea were awful
United played well but their final ball was off, and Rooney lacked support.
Bottom line is they didn't take any chances and so in a sense can't claim to have deserved to win, but they were much the better and more offensive side.
None of Chelsea's big-name players did anything. None of them. Drogba, Anelka, Lampard, Essien, Ashley Cole, all absent. Was like watching fucking Millwall.
We weren't good, can't argue otherwise
United played simple little triange balls pretty well. That's about it. Absolutely no way were they offensive. Their entire game was about stopping Ivanovic or Cole getting the ball.
A big part of your offensive threat, though.
"Nah it's alright lads, let 'em go for it."
Are you suggesting we should've left them to it?
Nope
I'm not even having a pop; when you play a side in good attacking form on their home ground, you aren't likely to go at them. I'm not criticising Utd for being negative (to some degree or another). I'm criticising the idea that they played well, and with attack constantly in mind. They didn't. Not that controversial opinion, is it?
Fair dos. I should probably avoid football threads when drunk.
I didn't think we were negative at all, I thought we went at you from the off. Being the "out-of-form" team playing away at the "in-form" team, I'm proud of how we performed.
Nae point arguing the ins and outs of it really, but that's football ain't it, bloody love it :)
Like watching Millwall
if you are used to non League. Tin pot comment from the tin pot perspective.Try not to concede three goals at home to Burnley before you mouth off at the big boys Del.
You're supposed to be one of the best sides in Europe.
We're mid-table club who haven't won anything in over forty years.
Not sure what your point is, or how us dropping points during one of the games of the season has anything to do with Chelsea being awful to watch and constantly negative.
* thirty
I didn't know whether to go with 'over thirty' or 'almost fourty', in the end i fucked it right up.
-The penalty: Seen 'em given, seen them left. I'd say it was, but most managers would complain if it was given against them (shock, I know.)
-Flying kick: Definite yellow in real time, clear red viewing the replay. No complaints. Don't like seeing that, even if it is Drogba.
-Free kick: With respect to your 'getting the ball' point, I think he got enough to warrant it not being given, and that the foul was minimal.
-Goal: Agree. We didn't though, and you did. Hard to swallow.
Still, not too disheartened. I thought we were good, and showed this ain't a one-horse race (or two, including Arsenal - who are looking sneakily good.)
Don't like blaming the ref, it's too easy. You scored, we didn't. We had enough chances to score, we'll be alright. See you in May.
Pretty much argee. But...SO Negative?
Being unable to do much in the final third is a lack of cutting edge, not negativity. Dunno, you've been in pretty good form whacking them in recently and playing good football, that'd have been part of it, but don't see it as negative.
Like I said above, decisions always seem more pivotal in a close game. Fact is you took your chance, scored, we didn't and didn't really create any chances - there should have been more, but lots of bad decision making cost us.
A draw would have been a fair result, but that means fuck all. 1-0, 3 points to Chelsea. End of.
Maybe delete 'so' then
I thought both teams were poor, but understandably so. I just find the idea that United were clearly the much better team laughable. Both sides were much a scrappy muchness.
I thought both sides were pretty evenly matched..
There wasn't much in the way of clear cut chances, but there rarely are in these games.
Thought the penalty incident was marginal. Seen them given but wasn't clear cut.
I couldn't see anything malicious in the Evans / Drogba challenge, although I was half reading the paper at the time.
I don't think it was a free kick leading up to the goal. It looked a good robust challenge to me. Got the ball, wasn't high or late. Just strong. The sort of challenge that I love to see and we shouldn't be outlawing.
I can't see what the beef was with the goal really. Looked ok to me. Maybe a tug by Drogba, but that sort of thing happens at 90% of corners / free kicks.
Valencia was a bit lucky late on that he didn't get more of Lampard.
Rooney was excellent.
One of the great things
about alex ferguson questioning whether Alan Wiley is fit enough to do his job is that when it comes to games like today his collegues might be less inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt :)
Tom Huddlestone is in the England squad
God, what game were some people watching on sunday?
Chelsea were shit but so were Man Utd and yes so was the referee, he got a lot of things wrong and they weren't all in Chelsea's favour. Hardly anything happened for the whole game, Utd didn't "dick" on us by any stretch of the imagination. Both teams looked solid defensively and ineffective going forward, Anelka was at least trying to creat something in the first half and Rooney played quite well (what are you on about Jordan, he's clearly your best player) but it was pretty uninspiring, not a good advert for the Premiership at all.
Fletcher deserves a slap, such a petty petulant cheating fuck who seems to get away with it because he's not a technical footballer or a foreigner, British "destructive" players always do, he's nearly as detestable as Maschearano.
If Man Utd did deserve to win then where does that leave them? They outplayed us (apparently) away from home and still lost, Chelsea won against the odds (again, apparently) like champions do.
Kik must've been on 10 pints of stella when he wrote his comments in this thread, "worst champions in the Premiership era"? Hahaha, well I have to say you at least know how to troll, Man Utd were bloody awful last season, we've played some really good football so far. It hasn't been great in every game but it's not realistic to expect that. Arsenal have actually looked the best so far but we all know they probably won't win it.
and once again sour Alex shows himself to be an utter cock
Wrong on pretty much every point.
United played much better than Chelsea. Surely so many people saying so indicates you just *might* be wrong?
Fletcher's becoming a real top-drawer player, and did much more than Essien. The edge was brought into the game by the Chelsea player, it was them who was the more petulant. That couple with the referee going on to have a shit game got United hot under the collar. Fletcher and a few others probably overeacted, but it was understandable.
Many teams play well away from home and lose. Doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things.
You above anyone else on this board, ANYONE else, can't really go round accusing people of trolling because they hold a different view to you. You're a fucking mug. A few people have said it. Chelsea have played good about four times, the rest has been fucking awful. Cloggers.
*players
and 'a few people have said it' meaning this year's champions will probably be the poorest to date.
what did rooney do exactly?
he's our only striker in a 4-5-1 formation. how many times did he make a positive forward run? once, in which he was given offside incorrectly in the first ten minutes (ala liverpool)
How many shots on target/problems did he cause the keeper? One, the shot from outside the box.
How many times did he take a player on when he had one person to beat to be through on goal? zero, he just lumbered about and then passed to Giggs or Valencia.
How many times did he set someone else up for a good goalscoring opportunity? zero.
and i dont get all this Fletcher hate. no-one outside of Man Utd had anything to say about him before the Arsenal semi-final last season, and now apparently he's the dirtiest player in the league. he goes into challenges hard and upsets the more 'fancy footballers' but he isn't dirty in the slightest, and i'd love for you to find an example of where he has cheated.
finally, how were the odds against Chelsea?! i think everyone predicted a Chelsea win. Without the amount of cheating you had to put into it too.
