Possibly stupid cinema related question
I don't often go to 'big' cinemas, but I want to see Up tonight.
A couple of questions:
1. Do Odeon do Orange Wednesdays?
2. All the listings for this week say that Up is 'audio described'. Does this mean there'll be someone actually talking over the film or does it just mean that there's some sort of headphone system on offer for blind people??
Thanks!

Dunno, but
my blind housemate at uni had audio described videos of the lord of the rings trilogy, they were brilliant: "Gimli paused for a moment to wipe the blood from his axe as the battle raged on, before turning to Legolas and said..."
1. yes
50% thanks
tha
Hey man, hows it going?
1. they do
2. you get a special headset thing for the audio description
I'm actually sad when I read a serious answer from you.
:(
"YOU'RE NOT THE BLOODY CLASS CLOWN MR FOLEY"
"I beg to differ....mother"
cheers mate
do you want to come see Japandroids a week on Friday??
Yeah go on then, where is it?
Sneaky Pete's
club night afterwards :)
Yeah man sounds good then
might be worth buying a ticket
think Ripping were sold out but there were still some online - TicketWeb, I think.
Don't go on Orange Wednesdays!
People who get into the cinema cheap don't treat the screening with any respect and blather through it or use their phone all the way through.
not true
i've been to the cinema on a wednesday quite a lot this year and people aren't that annoying, it's just a bit more full than usual.
i can't afford to pay £8 for the cinema either
get a cineworld unlimited pass
if you like going to the cinema lots. dunno how useful it is outside of london but it's pretty essential if you go to the cinema more than twice a month here.
i've got a membership to a local independent one
which gives me discounts on all the tickets there. Got there a couple of times a week :)
plus you can take beer into the screenings :)
It's pretty useless if you want to see more arthouse-y stuff though
I have nothing to bring to this thread but, in any case, this will not stop me...
I don't know anythign about audio described but my housemate is deaf and I'm actually really annoyed about how few screenings have subtitles. The ones that do are at silly times like 11am or something and he misses so many films because of it.
I personally wouldn't mind if all screenings had subtitles for the hard of hearing, plus I get in as his carer so it's half price, then everyday would be like Orange Wednesday. Imagine that.
i agree.
um, i used to have this obsession with watching films twice. once with the subtitles on, and once without. you can get to grips with the script so much better.
You did?
Me too and I find it really difficult to watch TV without subtitles, I think I've become slightly dependant on them and not just from living with a deaf guy, for some reason when I was younger I always had them on.
Eurovision used to be ace with subtitles as they subtitled the translation of the lyrics and they were often ridiculous.
yeah, woah, i'm just thinking about it now.
i'm glad i got out of it. my flatmates used to find it SO ANNOYING but i was like.... argh... i need them...
weird.
you should go to cineworld.
the odeon is so frickin' expensive.
cineworld is only Up in 3d
which is £9.50 a ticket :S
should have gone yesterday then for cheap tuesday
Commander Noobs
no cheaper at ours
at least, not online.
Camden Odeon were charging 11.75 for Up in 3D
laughing in the face of disinterested box office worker ensued
Yeah I had to pay an extra £2.50 for the 3D
it was bloody worth it though.
wow rly.
jeez.
Went along once to orange wednesday in Glasgow.....
Waited in the queue for about 10mins before i realised the queue was populated by a bunch of fucking idiotic noisy kids who were yndoubtedly gonna ruin my enjoyment of the film. So we left the queue and sauntered up to the GFT, there i can look down my nose at orange wednesday ;)
i'm hoping that it won't be too busy with it being out for ages now
and that the 8.20 time will mean less schoolkids....
always hoatchin in Glasgow.
Yes, I have also waited in some very long queues at the cinema in Glasgow
So can understand how you felt
