DiS 11-a-side football // Sunday 22 Nov // 2 PM
Regent's Park
NW1
www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/regents_park/hub/thehub.cfm
www.royalparks.org.uk/docs/park_maps/RegentsPark_English_Map.pdf
We did it! We completed one year of DiS Football. Almost exactly one year ago 26 or so skinny (and some not skinny) indie boys turned up on a wet Sunday to have a formal kick-about. Despite conscious efforts from the park staff to spoil that day, an epic battle took place, and it was so painful that it had to be repeated on a monthly basis. Since then we have conquered hailstorms, tropical storms, blazing sunshine and sideway gails. And we still think it's fun. Roll on year two.
The details:
- we play on a full-sized grass pitch
- there are facilities in a little building called The Hub (in the middle of Regent's Park), with lockers and showers (£1.50 charge)
- the football pitches are centered around The Hub
- the exact pitch will not be announced until Sunday morning 9 AM
- nearest tube station is Baker Street (15 min walk) with Camden tube station at a similar distance
- arrive at 1:30 PM for warm-up, tactics discussion, team pictures, etc.
- kick-off at 2 PM sharp
- full 2 x 45 minutes and injury time + 15 min break
- one team will play in red shirts, the other in blue
- everyone can participate, the skills on display are wide-ranging
- final teams will be announced in the week leading up to the game
- three pounds will be collected on the day
- post-match analysis in the Spread Eagle pub in Camden (corner of Albert St and Parkway)
Come on, you know you want to. Put your name down by replying below.

Tuesday 17 Dec: end-of-season awards ceremony & celebration (venue t.b.c.)
Sunday 10 Jan
Sunday 31 Jan (post-Zonino special)
Sunday 28 Feb
Sunday 28 Mar
All these games in Regent's Park, and we'll be back to the astro turf of Market Road from April onwards.
IN.
And already looking forward to the awards ceremony.
yep i'm in for this
if they have bothered to cut the grass, I reckon the pitch we usually use is far superior to the one we had last game - its less exposed so is less windy, and you don't get balls from adjacent pitches putting you off, or vice versa.
i dont think you get a choice.
I think he means Market Road
Although the worst ever case of stray ball disruption happened there...
no i mean regents park
considering we had played all our regents park games on that far pitch, I assumed Arthur was picking it, and then changed to a different one because of the long grass.
We've only played on that far pitch once before
First game was probably the best pitch location, until we got shifted. Second game was on the far pitch, third game was on the pitch next to the one we had on Sunday, then we moved to Market Road.
missed the third game i think
and thought the first game was there too until we got booted off.
But anyway - if they have cut the grass, and you do get a choice, then I reckon go for that pitch!
Is the awards thing
Tuesday 15th December, or Thursday 17th?
As ever, I am in like Micky Quinn for the match proper.
...
Awards?
P.S. In like Ho Chi Minh.
Thursday pls
Tuesday pls
weeknights?
you flaming mungos. weekend please.
But given that the only dates mentioned in here were Tuesday and Thursday...
Oh, and I'm in.
i'm in.
bon aniversaire.
I(di) Am in
I'm in
Although I can't make awards if they're the Tuesday as it's the work christams party and I'm DJing
Yeah I'm in
I will be hungover to fuck, but I'm in. I'll ask Loz too as ever...
As for the post-match drinks / award ceremony, the plan was sometime during December as we don't have a game then, preferably earlier but after the 2 ATP's. So that leaves us pretty much the week of 14th December. A few folks mentioned liking Tuesday or Thursday. Friday might be good too, and potentially the last 'On the beach' of the year (the wicked indie dance club that starts at 10 up in Islington).
in
definitely
Tuesday 15 Dec
is what I meant for the awards piss-up.
Seems that is the date most people can make it. Thursday 17 Dec is fine by me as well, if more people prefer that date. All other days in December are no-go as far as I'm concerned.
Either's good for me Arthur
EXTRA CONFIRMATIONS:
olegrich
some guy called Peter
should be around for this one
Ted
Dave 'Privet' Hedges
i'm so in
maybe this time I'll not injure myself climbing/have a sister with a birthday :(
Knapp is
(pause)
...
IN
One day
I'm going to come all the way down to the big city just for a game of football.
EVERYONE'S REPLYING VIA FACEBOOK
Tristan is in
imn
which is to say
"I'm in."
EDD IS IN
DAVE IS IN (the scummer who didn't play last time...)
happy birthday dis football!
fooking hell, can't believe it has been a year already. Do um proud!
Yeah, why not
Henrik isn't though, John'll probably be a pansy again too.
Right, I can definately make this fixture.
Let's hope I haven't gone all rusty.
Re: Regent's Park pitches
You don't get a choice. I complained after the September match and the park guy said then that they try and rotate teams between the various pitches. Pitch 4 is probably the worst though for ball interference from neighbouring pitches. Fingers crossed we get a more isolated one for the upcoming game.
I'm in
To be fair
I think we were interrupting others more than we were interrupted last week!
bump)))))
my post appears to have vanished
anyways I was just being kind enough to let everyone know that I am going to be absolutely immense in this game.
Anyone got the link for the first DiS football thread that contained all the banter, threats and wild boasts?
the very first DiS football thread
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4142999
followed 2 days later by the official announcement
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4143527
Sample quotes from the modest:
"theres no way i could play 11 a side" (meths)
"I couldn't last on a full sized pitch" (jack_le_biscuit)
"think of me as like a second-half substitute" (OceanStorm)
"I'm not exactly fantastic" (Verbal)
"pretty good for five minutes then liable to have heart attack" (bamos)
"can't shoot to save his life" (colinzealuk)
"good enough to be the worst player in my school team" (marckee)
"a chuggingly slow hungover left back" (vamos)
and the not so modest:
"I'd crush [jack_le_biscuit]" (olegrich)
"[olegrich] and me at centre back. The opposition front line would cry (LordLuciusBanter)
"can and will run for hours chasing dead balls" (Brooner)
"I'm completely amazing" (dan_thw)
"They call me Stealthy because before you've seen me, I've already scored two goals" (Stealthy)
I'll try and find all the post-match threads in time for when the awards voting process starts.
You've conveniently forgotten your hilarious banter with olegrich...
excellent work
You missed Brooner's amazing post script
"I can't head for toffee"
50% maybe
50% yes
It turns out I'm going to be in Nottingham in the morning of the match...
My train back to London (the only sensible train all day due to shitloads of maintainance work) leaves things tight but I'll try my hardest to make it. I should at least be able to play the second half.
Current headcount
24 confirmed, 2 maybe.
Anyone else joining for the last run-out of the year?
I have to switch to maybe
I maybe in Dublin for the rugby
i should be bringing a plus one
a midfield playmaker (ahem)
dont mind if hes on my team or not
i might be bringing someone along too.
i'm in
will still run all day, particularly round defenders and keepers, still can't head for toffee though.
Any more additions?
Before I start thinking about who is on what team?
Definitely out Arthur, at least I'm telling you this time..
I'm in bloody Bangalore. Will come along for the piss up though, 2 days after ATP? You're all mentalists.
One day to recover
from ATP is more than enough.
Shall I ask James again?
I'm in but as I've still got a rather sore blood blistered foot from the last game
I've asked a mate ot two as well in case I have to limp off at Half Time. Loz thinks he'll be in but won't know until the day, but my mate Al can play Arthur? I also know a couple of other blokes who play around there who might be game?
if you need additions let me know.
We have 26 confirmed now
From previous experience I'd say we need about 28 to guarantee two complete teams, so if James (Mark's mate) and Al (Sean's mate) both can make it, then we should have enough players.
Please ask them and report back.
bear in mind if it rains,
some of the flakier people will drop out.
you mean me don't you?
you're probably right though
pathetic
a meths and me centre midfield partnership for what could
be my last DiS game please
?
There's a small chance I may be slightly late
as I've got X-Country at 11am in Watford again, but will definitely still be there.
Attn : marckee / vamos
Any news regarding James and Al?
James is up for it, but he is already playing another match on Saturday,
so he's not 100%.
(although probably about as certain as most of the other people that have signed up)
Al lent his boots to a mate
But is 100% in if he can get them back beforehand. I know that's not ideal...
Also, I might have to drop into the maybe pile. Having shifted a nasty cold, I managed to put my back out this morning checking out my 'not entirely healed from the last game' blood blister. I'll keep you posted.
That's an injury worthy of a Premiership Footballer if ever I heard one
rates up with straining a tendon watching TV and damaging knee cartilage reaching for the remote.
You missed the amazing 'five-a-side' match we had
where he nipped to the toilet just before we started and came back injured.
I'm nothing if not consistent
(ly unfit)
'groin' strain?
No thanks
arthur:
my two mates say they "might" play, but i wouldnt count on them.
Errrrrr ....
We seem have a lot of unconfirmed players and people potentially running late for this game.
It's OK if at least half of them do turn up before 2 PM, but for those that have asked a mate to play, can you do a bit of arm-twisting to convince them to tag along?
And yes, the weather will be shite, so don't get in a strop when you open the curtains on Sunday morning.
ok, i'm gonna say they're not coming then.
as i cant count on them.
If it helps
when I say I might be late, I mean by a few minutes, not "I'll turn up at some point in the second half"! Assuming the Northern Line doesn't turn to jelly.
No planned engineering works
on the Northern Line this weekend
I can confirm me and my friend as definite.
Excellent
Two questions:
a) do you want to play part of the match in goal?
b) what position does your friend prefer to play?
djsokdsod
a) not particularly. Just had quite a long climbing session and my hands kill.
b) he says hes a defender, but he's built like a brick shithouse so he'd probably be as good up front.
move me back up front for this one arthur
i had a dream about scoring an awesome goal last night. I'm going to try and replicate it!
##### TEAMS #####
This is the line-up for Sunday's game, provided there are no last minute changes.
We have only one 'real' goalkeeper, and he might be running late, so a bit of voluntary rotation is required between the goal posts.

although i do think those teams are a bit unfair.
...
You say that every month.
In who's favour?
i think i just always think whoever has dan-thw is going to win.
i guess those teams are ok.
Frustrated, degraded, down before you're done
Rejection, depression, can't get what you want
You ask me how I make my way
You ask me everywhere and why
You hang on every word I say
But the truth sounds like a lie
(chorus)
Live to win, 'till you die, 'till the light dies in your eyes
Live to win, take it all, just keep fighting till you fall
Obsessive, compulsive, suffocate your mind
Confusion, delusions, kill your dreams in time
You ask me how I took the pain
Crawled up from my lowest low
Step by step and day by day
'Till there's one last breath to go
(chorus)
Live to win, 'till you die, 'till the light dies in your eyes
Live to win, take it all, just keep fighting till you fall
Day by day, kickin' all the way, I'm not cavin' in
Let another round begin, live to win
Yeah, live, yeah, win

you've just volunteered yourself for goalie.
Can we make it Blues v Greens?
blue and green should never be seen.
Algae my coat
My back is loads better today but...
Dear Dr. DiS,
I still have one substantially large freshly healing patch of skin which was formerly a blister from the last game. If I double up my socks and wear blister plasters, will I avoid doing it any great harm? Or should I sit this one out to be on the safe side?
Cheers,
A big girl's blouse
a blister?
a sodding blister? strap yourself up and get on that pitch. we need you.
Ok then (it is very big).
At least it has 2 months to recover I guess?
Well count me in Arthur, come rain or shine. Rain that'll possibly provide a good excuse for 5 people not turning up on the day, I suspect...
You'll be fine
stick some compeed over it.
You're provisionally on Red
but this may have to change depending on whether James, Loz and Al turn up as well.
Cheers Arthur
I'll bring both tops as ever anyhow and let you know ASAP about the other two slackers.
DiS SPORTS NEWS TICKER: Blues in even later transfer shock
In order to neutralise the Reds midfielder-general combo of meths and jacques_le_biscuit, the Blues have recruited midfield maestro (and biscuit-lookalike) Jack to bolster its ranks.
Weather permitting, this has the potential to be a very interesting game ...
with all due respect to Jack, I'm taller and better looking than him
If my foot is too bad, I may just stand on the sidelines doing a Live Text feed of the game anyhow on DiS...
I've always thought that could be quite fun.
I don't get out much these days admittedly?
i've just got this.
yes. good idea.
I quite like the idea of each DiS game
being a sort of notional 'rematch'.
good work as always
Excellent stuff
I expect at least two other volunteers from the Red team to take a stint in goal. I don't want to spend half the match between the sticks.
Meths has sent me a PM saying he's happy to go in whenever
he is needed.
again.
should we adopt a running clock and everyone goes in for 5 mins?
...
No.
i'll bring my gloves
for some reason I thought the match was today yesterday, and that my hands would still be numb from climbing...
without wishing to cause offence to TRSTN
would it be possible to swap him and Brooner over?
I had loads of fun playing up front with Brooner in the last game, and if we have a pairing of me and TRSTN up front, neither of us are particularly good at chasing stuff down and running about, and neither of us are natural strikers - it could end up with us playing 4-6-0 !!
Next time maybe
The whole point of mixing the teams up is that we have different combinations every game. Plus you have Jake, Tom and Tom's mate on your team as well to switch things around up-front.
And "neither of us are natural strikers"?
Your goalscoring stats prove otherwise. Just don't take the penalties.
I think all of them have been scored from outside the box
apart from the one I scored in the last match!
Hedges and Bamos on the other hand have scored the vast majority of their goals in one on one situations, or from close range.
Them = strikers
Me = not striker
in the team talk down there vvv
i have alluded to how we can get round this.
you are now berkcamp.
also if we get a penalty i'm definitely taking it
haha!
Please do
as you're not on my team this time.
I'm not your goalkeeper though.
I'm on freekicks
you can run over it
I'll run over you*
*I can't drive
4-6-0 is an excellent formation tho.
i must say i'm looking forward to playing on the wing
with some overlapping runs from phil, rather than up against him for a change. Peter and Royter might not enjoy this so much.
You're disqualified
DiS SPORTS NEWS TICKER: Reds in late transfer shock
Fearing a massive defeat on Sunday, the Reds have gone out and bought themselves a versatile midfielder/defender who can head the ball (well, he did so once) and a penchant for pink-striped replica shirts. Crablin will be paraded around the ground on Sunday morning.
The Blues are rumoured to have made a killer purchase as well. More news as we have it.
He's a nice young man
He's a lovely smile
GET RIGHT IN THERE MY SON.
Sos, 100% out now
Not that it matters all that much, I'm sure I'll not be missed
i miss you already.
i was going to wear an ireland shirt as well.
REDS TEAM TALK:
can i suggest a cheeky 4-5-1? with tristan up front and dan-thw sitting back slightly?
I've translated that as you saying I should play a free role
and just roam about wherever I see fit.
And I agree.
no i'm not saying that.
i was going to suggest that, but i realised we had tristan up front, who doesnt ever drop back, so he needs to stay up the pitch. dan is brilliant going forward so i put him in the berkcamp role. leaving us to play the iniesta-xavi partnership.
I reckon some leg-saving switcherama
with dan_thw having one half up front, one half in defence, Edd having one half in defence and one in midfield, and either you or Jim having one haf in midfield and one up front. This could potentially be very sexy.
sexy indeed.
what about the game tho?
I shall be on pitch for a spell too.
I can play libero.
you're knowledge of african musical instruments will be no good during a game of footie mate
No, YOU are knowledge of african musical instruments.
and so's you are wife.
Al has got his boots back Arthur so is in too if that's ok
And would prefer a defensive role if possible, but is easy.
I guess there'll be a few casualties on the day anyhow due to hangovers / forgotten arrangements / shite weather / transport?
OK
He will be (provisionally) on the Blue team.
BBC weather forecast for Sunday: heavy rain shower, max temp: 13°C
yeah i saw the weather today,
it doesnt look good for sunday. i'd say get as many ringers as we possibly can cos people are bound to not turn up if it rains.
We have 30 confirmed names now
that should be enough to get two full teams.
As long as people let me know that they can't make it (everyone should have my mobile no. by now, and if you don't have it, PM me) then I can keep track of the numbers and try to find more ringers.
i'd still say get more people if we can.
the flakier sorts are the ones who dont let you know. i'm sure the rain will put a few off.
^ won't turn up
Can you PM me your mobile number please just in case
seriously.
dont be such an idiot. so what if it rains?
that's no way to build up camaraderie
I don't mind playing in rain but if it's torrential downpours all morning then the pitch will be unplayable and it won't be worth leaving the house
Yeah it'll be worth checking this thread before we all leave
Will the 'groundsmen' let you know by phone if we can't use the pitch Arthur?
Yes
I will know on Sunday morning.
However, it's been dry all week (up until today at least), and the last time we played the ground was still very solid, so I expect the pitches will be in at least a reasonable state.
Good stuff
I've even bought some blister pads in anticipation. Looking forward to it...
Nice
I'll be there, rain or shine. Well, rain or worse rain (with added wind). I was offered a free ticket for Spurs - Wigan (which for some random reason is at 3 on sunday), which was tough to turn down but I did. Hmmm.
Good work Arthur. Red eh? I'll take that to mean claret with blue sleeves.
don't be a bellend
wooot!
been looking forward to this for a while.
there is no way
the precious groundsmen at Regents Park are gonna let us play on the pitch tomorrow if it keeps raining, maybe even if it stops now, which it isn't going to.
In this instance, shall we make a pact to just all turn up regardless and have a game on the non-pitches area like the first one we did when that was rained off? I was really looking forward to tomorrow and even if its just a 6 vs 6 game I'd still be up for playing!
Game is on. We're on pitch 6
It is currently bright and sunny here in North London, perfect conditions for a game of football.
yeahhhh
Ossum.
west london is damp but bright with light cloud cover
i predict long ball.
uh oh, rain in the west!
we should have been playing at 10am then...
I wasn't awake at 10am.
It is now raining in East London too...
the horror!
the horror!
mile end is like some rain apocalypse.
It's setting off car alarms in Leytonstone...
And it's now hailing!
What a way to celebrate the first anniversary...
Update from TFS - should make second half
any willing blue keepers?
Me and Al are definitely in Arthur
Not heard from Loz yet though, but given that we was sleeping off being at a beer festival for 12 hours on the other side of Essex, I'd still keep him very much in the 'maybe' pile.
Nice weather up there eh?
It resembles 'El Nino' down south...
it just absolutely fucked it down in brixton.
it's just been hailing in stoke newington!
GAME IS OFF
Just been called by Regent's Park. Sorry.
Oh no, really?
Anyone still up for going out anyway jumpers for goalposts style like Dan said? Or is this a bit undoable?
Or just some beers?
this is fucking annoying
I really wanted to play today and I'm not sure there is another day until January I can play even if we rescheduled.
However these conditions would have made any sort of decent game pretty much impossible.
Anybody know any indoor / all weather floodlit places we could hire at short notice for a game later on today?
a Goals?
that place in cally road where we played in the summer?
I'm going offline for a while
if anything gets sorted for later on / this evening I'd be well up for playing, even if its an indoor 5 a side or something. If anyone could organise something like this then please try!
If someone who has my number ... Arthur / Sean or whoever could text me if something gets sorted that would be great.
RUBBISH!
it only rained for about 5 mins. :(
god damn
is there any chance we could play in islington?
...
Oh, that's a shame, I was really looking forw-- Assassin's Creed 2, MF!
We can hire a 5-a-side pitch near Old Street
at 3:15 PM for 45 mins. Yes or no?
yes
how much?
42 quid
how big is it?
could we feasibly play 6 a side on it?
what happens if 20 players turn up?
too small for 6
they have a 6-a-side pitch as well, but that's only free at 4:45 PM. If 20 players turn up you play 22.5 mins each.
shall we go for the 6-a-side pitch
and see if we can get 16 confirmed ?
Two teams with 2 rolling subs each - ideal.
I wouldn't want to be only playing 20 mins if I was to come all the way from Sutton.
talking of which
do people like Tristan, coming from Brighton, know the game is off? And that we are thinking of playing elsewhere?
Tristan knows
but he's already on the train. I'm texting him with updates.
how many people are you actively in touch with arthur?
i'd be up for 5-a-side, 6-a-side, or 7-a-side, provided there weren't too many for 5, or too few for 6 or 7, or whatever.
I'd be game
I'm sure Al would be too. But as he's not a DiSser if we're overloaded I could always not tell him.
Plus 5-a-side is knackering, so even if we had 16 people or so turn up, it'd be ok as long as he had rolling subs?
Market Road
was fully booked btw.
Have you tried Liverpool Street Powerleague
Or the new Regent's Park one (it's actually on Euston Road)?
Old Street has tiny pitches, in comparison.
Also, Liverpool Street has a 7-a-side pitch,
which is sometimes available.
Liverpool Street Powerleague
is available until 5 PM, but it's 65 quid for 40 mins
5 a side for 45 mins?
hmm. probably not.
weather is looking a lot better now
dont they ever reverse the decision?
surely we can just do jumpers for goalposts somewhere?
If it's anything like it was in Watford while I was running
the half hour of pissing rain'll have completely saturated it. No chance it'll be playable today.
I remember ;l
*I remember
playing in really awful conditions when I was a kid. Worse rain than what we've had today.
:(
So've I to be honest
what I mean is there was standing water on the pitches in Cassiobury Park by the time the rain packed it in. Once you reach that stage, no groundsman's going to let you play - it'll ruin the pitch for the rest of the year. :(
:(
there's glorious sun now too. fuck you world.
REBUILD
(or has the comments thing suddenly becaome REALLY screwed up?
sucks
text me if something is on, i'm off out for breakfast.
Why don't we do that thing like on the Albums of the year thread
Where we list our options below, and then people 'This' the one they'd like to do the most.
eg.
5-a-side @ 3:15
6-a-side @ 4:45
jumpers for goalposts (this wouldn't end up happening though, right?)
call it off
go for a beer...
Options
decide in the next 30 mins:
A) 5-a-side
B) 6-a-side
C) jumpers for goalposts
(But I'll do any of them)
but only if most people are still coming.
not really worth it if its a 5 a side jumpers for g's
Yeah totally
Well Al is in for either too. And I guess Tristan would favour C as he's on his way. How about the others that aren't on here so much at weekends? Bamos? Crablin? Tom? Royter? And the ringers? etc
I think I'm gonna pass tbh. I'm still frozen from earlier
Watching The Thick of It now and I'll see after that, but I'm not sure I can be too bothered with Jumpers4Goalposts.
i can't really be arsed with 5/6 a-side tbh
jumpers for goalposts I would, but like you say is unlikely.
i think i'll go for a run while the sun is shining instead.
I wanna do jumpers for goalposts
But I'd do any of the others.
but yeah, jumpers for goalposts.
if you actually have enough numbers and are able to get definite replies
I reckon we should do 6-a-side at 4:45.
Nobody is going to agree universally on anything, and jumpers for goalposts is too vague, and in reality it is probably still too wet underfoot.
If you reckon there are still at least 12 players up for it, I think you should just go ahead and book the 6-a-side pitch, so at least we have something booked that we have to turn up to.
Rob (malick) is up for jumpers for goalposts
and so is Rich (richyblue)
Bamos is out for everything
where are we gonna do jumpers for goalposts then?
Regent's Park
it's too difficult otherwise, especially with people already on their way
are there a lot of people still coming then?
how many a side would j's for g's be?
So that makes 8 of us
Hmmm... not really going to happen is it? With some people not coming on here at weekends or feeling hungover, staying indoors is too warm an option I'm guessing? I think Dan's suggestion is right given the time. We'd be better off seeing if we can scrape together a 6-a-side game later on.
And if not, well then lets get organising our end of year meet up instead early next week.
this is silly
the game was called off because it was too wet to play. Yet we still would prefer to do jumpers for goalposts, on the waterlogged Regents Park.
It gets dark at 4:00pm, earlier if there is substantial cloud cover.
It will take me around an hour and 20 mins to get anywhere, making it hardly worth it.
CAN WE JUST BOOK THE 4:45 PITCH PLEASE? Why are people not interested in doing this? We won't get muddy, we will have floodlights, and we have a defined pitch and goals.
I'll text again
to find out who is up for 6-a-side at 4:45 PM.
ok guys.
i'm ruling myself out of everything. :(
why arent you up for 6 a side?
too late in the day
and i'm not convinced many people would turn up.
if we were playing at market road at 4:00pm
we would have finished at 6:00pm.
playing for 45 mins at old st at 4:45pm means we finish at 5:30pm.
I just don't get it unless you mean today in particular this is too late.
And if Arthur gets confirmations, and everyone on here confirms, of course people would turn up because they are confirmed?!!
Tristan is in Regent's Park now
he's saying some pitches are being used. And he is with a mate.
this is irrelevant considering we won't get anywhere near 22 out
and it will be too dark to play by the time we get enough people there.
I'm sure we'll have enough for the 6-a-side game. Can people just confirm they will play this please, and lets book it!
i'm not doing a 6 a side.
If people can be there for 3 then i'll play at regents park.
why though?!
why is everyone flaking on this?
4:45 is too late for me
Wouldn't have minded a relaxing kick about on grass to be honest.
like i said above
we'll be finishing earlier than we would have done at market road!!
yeah
but market road is 30 seconds from the destination of my evening plans.
So who we got for 6-a-side?

dan
tristan

sorry guys.
two more and we have a 5 a side game
are you seriously telling me that out of 30 or so confirmed for the 11 a side game, only 8 are willing to play a 5 a side? This is unbelievable...
Mark said he was game up there ^ too
sod it
i'll come play too, see you guys later.

I'm meeting Tristan at 4:15 PM at Old Street tube, exit #6, if you don't want to get lost
hang on so you've just booked a 6 a side pitch when we only have 8 players?!
or have you got more confirmations?
Well done Arthur
I'll be there. Think it makes sense mate, and cheers again for doing this / putting up with 54 posts of negativity.
It's tricky reorganising these things on an internet forum it'd appear...
yeah well done for taking the brave step
but you've booked a 5 a side rather than 6 a side, right?
PS. Surely two more people online can come along now we have the pitch booked!!
COME ON YOU FUCKERS!!

Sweet!
Cheers for running around after all of us.

top man arthur
see you at 4:15 at old street!
just as an additional point
if people could bring both a blue and red shirt that would be good!
Don't worry
I got the bibs, and there are 6 in each colour
had a great time today
having finally hit a spot of good form. Sam (my friend) loved it too and says hell be a regular from now on providing matches dont clash with work.
Thanks very very much to Arthur for sorting everything out and putting up with me calling him every ten minutes telling him i didnt know where i was.
Cheers to Arthur for chasing around at short notice and organising this.
Anyway, match summary:
Reds 5 – 1 Blues
Teams: Reds – tom_from_sparks, marckee, Brooner, vamos, TRSTN, richyblue;
Blues – stealthy, dan_thw, RoyterHatfood, aboynamedgoo, Sam, Al
Scorers (I think): Reds – Brooner (3), TRSTN (1) Richyblue (1);
Blues – dan_thw
I enjoyed this game. I liked the fact that everyone else in my team did all my running for me, and I could operate in a little 5-yard circle spraying passes around like Jan Molby in his pomp. Tom made half a dozen excellent stops, but the Reds were still the better team – we had better organisation and a stronger commitment to put in the running and track players. The Blues might have had more shots, but the reason that so many of them skewed wide or ballooned over was because they were forced to rush their attempts or shoot from wide angles.
Good stuff. See everyone on the 15th.
is that it now done for the rest of the year?
Drinks/awards ceremony on the 15th.
Apart from that, yes.
Good grief, just read all of the above,
looks like you all had a bit of a nightmare yesterday. Credit to those who turned up and played. And Arthur you're a bloody saint! 33c here in Bangalore today;-)
ah balls
was looking forward to one last match but then I can't really say I was gutted it was called off yesterday. The terrible weather plus trains being out of action meaning an absolute mare of a journey meant I was quite relieved when it was cancelled and I could sit on the sofa watching the Office all day.
What's all this one last match stuff?
Are you not playing next year?
not really sure yet
but it's looking like a distinct possibility that it will be harder for me to make any games
Did you miss his testimonial?
You know what, I really enjoyed the 6 a side action.
As a keeper you always have to be alert when playing smaller games of football as a threat can come at any second due to the smaller pitch.
In 11 a side the fact is that sometimes you don't see any action for 5-10 mins and it means that your mind does wander when that's really the last thing you want.
I do like having my own area as well which no one else can enter, well apart from Tunde seemingly ;-D
Jeez, those 45 mins sure do fly by though.
Thanks everyone for turning up to the rearranged game
and apologies to a couple of people who received a stray text during the day.
Despite being on the losing side I really enjoyed this game. The pitch was pretty spacious, allowing for more running and combining than a 'normal' 5-a-side match. You can easily play 7 or even 8 on a pitch like that. The Red team being more disciplined defensively made the difference, we left poor Sam and Al exposed a few too many times.
Details for the drinks/awards evening and voting procedure will be announced later this week. The date is Tuesday 15 December indeed. Any suggestions for a central London venue? Sam Smith pub with an upstairs room?
