if eating is too painful like
Surely soup is similar and that would count?
i think this might be one of alcoholic's sarcastic replies
Jesus Christ, you try and help a guy..
i think they mean real food, it helps reduced nausea or something like that
If there is food in your stomach there is less chance of this happening, even if it's just a couple of biscuits or something. Therefore I would be wary of just a drink, but I'm not sure about yoghurt or soup. You could always ring the pharmacy to check.
isn't it like with alcohol though, even if you have milk or something, that'll line your stomach? i'd be confident enough with a yoghurt, i've seen hospitals give them out to people to take antibiotics with
some drugs are mostly absorbed through the stomach. The idea of taking them with food is that the food will cause the stomach to 'shut off' (ie not pass it's contents on to the rest of your digestive system), and thus your drugs will stay in your stomach for longer and thus more can be absorbed. If you only have a drink (or liquid food) the stomach will not hold it for very long as liquids are absorbed in the small and large intestine, and thus with it, your drug will pass through and thus not be absorbed completely.
EDIT: in fact, here we are, an abstract of a 1957 paper describing that acidic drugs can be absorbed through the stomach whereas basic ones cannot: http://tinyurl.com/yjfmfvh
