The top 5 words of all time... ever
Do you use words? Do you have a favourite? Do you, uhh... HAVE... a, how to put it... FAVOURITE word... as it were, so to speak, as they say, in a manner of speaking, per se, and ...so on.
Do you enjoy sentences such as:
"The man loomed ominously upon the crumbling precipice."
or
"A volley of musketry thundered, flamed, roared. A profound silence followed, broken only by the footsteps of the third brigade."
or
"He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought."
...?
The answer to this is irrelevant. But if you enjoy words - big words, small words, pretentious words, or just plain FUNNY-SOUNDING words (they don't have to be capitalised) - then suggest your favourite FIVE. Go forth, young wordsmiths - harvest a lexicon worthy of this thread's bidding. Word!
The Rules:
1. Nothing coarse, please. I won't understand it.
2. It must actually be a word, or - at the very LEAST - sound like one.
3. If you have any problems with the spelling of your words, do follow the "look, cover, write and check" method you were taught at primary school.
The nomination period ends ...soon. Following that, a determined period of time will be assigned to the VOTING of the nominated words. To decide on any ties, an eight-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a winner is decided.
