A rather good weekend for the neutral football fan with Chelsea and Liverpool coming a cropper again on the road.
In Liverpool’s case, although the goal apparently shouldn’t have stood, it seems a case of fair dos imho. If Reina is silly enough to allow a beachball to bounce around his goal area then he deserves to be wrong footed be a ghastly deflection. The fact that it was thrown onto the pitch by a Liverpool fan only makes things funnier. Kudos though to Rafa (I’m usually one of his biggest critics) for focusing on Liverpool’s poor performance rather than that.
Chelsea need to learn to defend set pieces. Great challenge by Anelka on O’Neill.
Arsenal and Man United were also given a game by Birmingham and Bolton respectively. Well done.
Jermain Defoe scores and gets sent off for a petulant little kick on his return at Fratton Park.
Martin Petrov’s equaliser earns 10 man Man City a point at the Dave Whelan Memorial Bowl.
Blackburn v Burnley looked a decent game.
Other stuff lower down the leagues – including a first win of the season for Darlington. Well done Steve Staunton. His Irish mate Roy Keane still can’t buy a win.
Hendon beat Lowestoft Town 2-0 at Vale Farm. The scoreline flattered us overall.
