One hit wonder with steadily diminishing returns who's fans have not yet realized he's a one hit wonder?
Something to occupy Frat Boys until Judd Apatow came along?
Genuinely talented auteur who is entering an interesting phase of his career?
I'm always in two minds about him. I like Clerks, but I wouldn't say I've ever really "loved" any of his films. Maybe they're too specifically working-class New Jersey.
