I just read that 'What degree did you do' thread but felt slightly left out due to the fact I've never been to uni. I got me thinking 'Who here hasn't got a degree, and what did you do instead???'
I'm a joiner/carpenter. It's an OK job. Good money. I drive around in my van all day listening to music between jobs. I also go home whenever the hell I want if I'm having a shit day.
I did consider uni, but didn't know what I wanted to do. And I didn't want to get into debt and waste time for something I wasn't that into, if you know what I mean...
So I got a trade instead! ( something to fall back on - as everyone says )
All my friends are older than me. They left uni before I could even start. And now they all work jobs that have NOTHING to do with their degrees. ( and also debts )
So that kind of put me off too.
Anyway, I'm using the money I've been saving for the past few months or so and going to live in Canada for a year in Jan. So I think I kind of made an accidental correct decision about not going uni when I left school, and just doing an apprenticeship was the best thing for me. ( I didn't even consider traveling when leaving school, but now I feel really grateful for having a full time solid income and zero debts since leaving school, It's set me up just right)
( BTW - I'm not bashing uni or anything - it just wasn't for me. )
So yeah... What about you?
