I know some fairly posh sounding people. Richard Curtis posh.
am I being silly in not understanding this?
One of my uncles lives there, he's not very posh though. George Orwell grew up in Shiplake too (and later Henley). Hmmmmm, interesting.
I work with plenty of people who are Princess Anne posh
I know a Lady. An actual Lady. Bring on your jokes.
he's done voiceovers for the bbc in the past. i.e. very posh.
Although the poshest people I have heard in recent memory were the Bangladeshi family that Rick Stein visited in his recent series. They had been educated in England but had taken it to a whole new level. Incredible.
it's just the opposite of trying to sound all blokey and a bit rough and common when you have the plumber round fixing your shower
apart from someone in this thing i go to. He is Scottish though, but sounds RIDICULOUSLY posh and English, phelgmy posh. And he looks like David Mitchell and has a special bad hair dispensation because posh people generally have bad hair, don't they?
Also, I often think poshness isn't necessarily about sounding posh, but about the vernacular one uses for things, so even if someone has 'edges' in their voice, you can kind of tell they're posh.
Also, only posh people put on deliberately 'common' voices for swearing, like saying 'FAAAACKING HELL'.

and she's common as muck
She always buys Tesco Finest crap. That's well posh.

He was once appalled when he was doing some cooking in our kitchen and he couldn't find our basil plant. I explained that I'd never owned a basil plant and (half jokingly) offered him a tub of value mixed herbs from Asda.
He looked aghast and said: "I don't think I've ever been in a kitchen without a basil plant."
and it was definitely one of those 'you had to be there' moments. It wsa hilarious at the time though.
