Off to newcastle today for the weekend.
Anyone got any advice on what to see during the day and where's fun at night?
If you like shit-and-sawdust slash-fests, get yourself down the Bigg Market. Otherwise, I'd recommend Ouseburn for a few afternoon / early evening drinks. It's slightly outside the city centre, and it's an awkward place to find if you don't know the area, but should only cost a few quid in a taxi. You can't really go wrong with any of the pubs, The Cluny, The Ship and The Cumberland Arms are all canny. The Cluny also does awesome burgers and is a great gig venue too.
and ate a burger at the cluny - was indeed brilliant :-)
Think i'm ending up at the other rooms tonight.
but I remember it being canny. Pubs in that rough vicinity (near the station) are all mostly pretty good too. Head of Steam in particular (owned by same people as the Cluny) has some nice beers if you can stand the indier-than-thou bastards who tend to frequent the place.
They're rubbish. Tilleys is good though - also owned by the Head Of Steam.
plus for the in city centre
head of steam
then buy a ticket for the match.
I'm here all week.
Was thinking about this.
Alternatively just a good pub to watch the games and soccer saturday.
They've been selling tickets on the door to all home games this season (The delights of having a 52,000 seater in the Championship).
if you do go well before kick off cause theres normally long queues then.
Not joking though, the build up to the match is great around the haymarket area and then after too.
Also try the dog and parrot, Head of steam, bodega and tillys (bodega and tillys before the match are great too)
If your not going to game I would personalyl recommend the bodega or dog and parrot (both close to each other) for Sky sports all day
I wouldn't recommend going to these places unless you fancied ending up in either an ambulance or a paddy wagon.
Thanks everyone, i've made notes. Have a good weekend.
