    doodthatkicksarse | 1 Oct '09, 02:15 | X

I'm going to chuck it at the carpet now

it might reset. works for me whenevr it blacks out

  • If you get an iPod with a hard drive, it's going to crash.

If you get a Nano, which uses flash memory, it won't. My last Nano worked until I accidentally submerged it in water.

    Luis_Carruthers @Permafrost_Cities | 1 Oct '09, 02:33 | X
    • Hard drive has moving parts and can therefore go wrong.

Your iPod theory is about the same as claiming that because there are people now who are over 100 that 1909 or earlier were good years for 'the human' and all later generations are substandard with their early deaths.

      TheoGB @Permafrost_Cities | 1 Oct '09, 09:50 | X
      • That's what YOU think.

      • my first gen nano crashed after a year

my ipod classic has been going fine for two years...

        anyong @Luis_Carruthers | 1 Oct '09, 20:00 | X
      • no

people have been saying this ever since the ipods launched. the new ones are no better or worse than the old ones.

        josh @Permafrost_Cities | 1 Oct '09, 02:53 | X
        • ...

As an owner of several iPods right from the first generation, I can categorically state that the new ones are much more reliable.

That said, some people are apparently unaware that iPods, like anything else, are still just one individual object - things can and will go randomly wrong. That doesn't mean all iPods will.

      • you know what you should do?

take it into the store. get them to fix it or replace it. if they refuse, tell them that under the sale of goods act any product sold has to be fit for purpose. an mp3 player which lasts under two years (i imagine it isn't older than that) is not fit for purpose. therefore, they gotta sort it out.

        Heliotrope | 1 Oct '09, 10:37 | X
        • yeah, good luck trying that in an apple store.

          josh @Heliotrope | 1 Oct '09, 10:50 | X
          • why not?

            Heliotrope @josh | 1 Oct '09, 11:48 | X
            • i mean, besides the fact that its the law,

it can't hurt to try it eh?

              Heliotrope @Heliotrope | 1 Oct '09, 11:49 | X
            • because they're pricks.

and they'll just repeat the same "this is all i'm allowed to do for you" line until you call out the manager who does the same thing, until you get home and try them on the phone and hear the same thing.

                • can't this this enough

getting sick of trying to find an mp3 player i actually wanted, i thought "ok, i'll go into an apple shop and give them a chance"

put it this way, if i ever go to an apple shop again in my life it'll be too soon. yuck x 100000000

                  brusma @fucktherave | 1 Oct '09, 12:03 | X
              • ...

                Word.

But on the other hand - it is still worth a shot. Especially for me, who buys his iPods for less than the RRP off Ebay, but still gets angry when they go wrong past the warranty that I never had.

If anyone's interested: My iPod has a dodgy clickwheel. It takes 4 attempts to press play. Totally bullshit.

                Stealthy @josh | 1 Oct '09, 11:58 | X
      • i must say

i've knocked several shades of shit out of my ipod and it's still working fine. though i've probably jinxed it now

        manbearpig | 1 Oct '09, 12:07 | X
      • I've fixed a few of these now.

You'll either need a hard restore after putting the thing into disk mode, or to send it to someone like me who can open it up and reconnect the ribbon cable inside which has slipped and caused the error.

        crablin | 1 Oct '09, 12:33 | X
        • Yah I'm installing iT 9 so I can do the former

I've heard bad things about 9. ADVENTURE!

      • Read these articles then take it back to the shop:

      • everyone should buy apple products

at john lewis. same price as everywhere else but you get 2 year john lewis guarantee which is uber good; they replace anything for very little reason

        Jamie_Summers | 1 Oct '09, 14:23 | X
        • Every shop has to honour a two year guarantee.

John Lewis does have longer guarantees for televisions though.

          marckee @Jamie_Summers | 1 Oct '09, 14:46 | X
          • yeah but I'm assuming

this is my iPod cow's referring to, which when I sent it to him a few months ago was already a couple of years old, maybe even three. And not from John Lewis.

            Ho hum.

            MirriLondon @marckee | 1 Oct '09, 19:51 | X
            • Hi-ho*

              Naw thisn's a 160GB brick.. It's very nearly 2 years old I think..I'll see what I can do.

The shuffle is working brilliantly on the other hand Mirri, it's what I use for when I'm running around :)

              cowcow @MirriLondon | 1 Oct '09, 21:16 | X
              • good good
