Kinda sinister and all that jazz...
is good...set in L.A: not that L.A-heavy but it was the book that got Bukowski writing and it's ace. and short.
but James Ellroy's LA Quartet (Black Dahlia, Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, White Jazz) are excellent and pretty sinister in a way like Chinatown (the film).

Lunar Park doesn't have much LA in it, but it's fuggin brilliant
(think most of it is in LA)
glamorama is his worst tho, its flipping piffle
I really like Less Than Zero, but I can see why it would be pretty easy for people to pick apart.
It's not brilliantly written and if you wanted you could interpret a lot of it as a really forced attempt at teenage ennui, but I think it's better than that.
Glamorama is utter balls.
