Why is talking shit a sign of 'maturity'?
Do you remember as kids you would actually talk about everything about life and everything? Of course you would talk about hobbies and shit you buy and all that…but as a kid you were not afraid to discuss philosophical subjects.
But when kids discovered the opposite sex all of a sudden talking about sex and girl/boy relationships and gossiping was seen as a sign of ‘maturity’….this separated the normal kids from the geeks…geeks would continue talking about ‘intellectual’ topics because they couldn’t get the girls etc…but it wasn’t simply a matter of one group of kids being ‘cool’ and others ‘not’..that topic has been done to death on this board…what I’m talking about is the idea that somehow nerds have encountered an impasse in their quest for maturity…because they can’t chat shit about girls/parties/clubs not are they uncool…but they are ‘socially retarted’
At university all of a sudden it’s cool to be a socially retarded nerd and wax lyrical about Gramsci, and mix it with a bit about football and you’re on a winner..
Then you leave uni and you revert back.
In the adult world acceptable conversation is based on the same as template as that in your late teens….it’s now about ‘relationships/drugs/drink/work/money/sport/ ‘issues’ (covered in the broadsheets that week’). All metaphysical conversations are reduced to sophistry and those who are genuinely interested in wider issues are told to ‘grow up’.
Why?
Yes, I was told to ‘fucking grow up, you are going to turn 30, you prick’ on the weekend.
I need lessons in chatting shit
