London Film Fstival: What are you fancying the look of?
So far, I'm thinking some of 'Men who stare at goats' for my yearly Clooney fix, a bit of the new flicks by the Coens / Sodderburgh (sp?) / Gondry / Jeunet, 'The French Kissers', maybe that one called 'The Road' about an apocalyptic future, the one about an American small town titled '45365' and the film about Hitchcock 'Double Take'.

Damn the lack of an 'edit post' feature....
I've only booked for the new Todd Solondz
film at the moment, a 'sequel' of sorts to Happiness.
I'm not happy the ticket prices have taken a massive hike this year, neearly everything I want to see is in the region of £12 unless I go during the day which means taking time of work.
Yeah I wasn't too happy about that
But I think realistically, I'll only get to see 2 or 3 of the above anyhow due to some of them only being on in the daytime or else overlapping shows.
Yeah I'm going to take another look
but I usually go to about half a dozen films but no way that's happening this year. Oh well.
Do you have to be a member to book now?
At least the new Solondz one is only £12 as opposed to the Haneke one being £20.
Yeah
members booking is open, public is on Saturday I think.
The ones that are £20 are opening night galas
Hence the likelihood of stars / directors / writers making an appearance for a Q+A session afterwards. I believe.
True
but the Q&A with Harmony Korine I went to last year was only about 8 quid. Sigh.

I so wish I could make one of the Air Doll screenings
Kore-eda's films never seem to get a proper release over here.
I'm going to The Touch and The Time That Remains.
Well this is annoying
The ticket buying features on the site are fucked so two of the films I want tickets for aren't listed as being on, another is sold out (Kamui) and the last I've just noticed is at 1 pm on a weekday.
Mmmmm....
Well the BFI are dicks.
After being on hold for half hour, I get told that the opening gala for ‘The men who stare at goats’ is long sold out. I point out that the website says it isn’t and that they should at least update that, but the guy just said ‘Well it is’.
And then I also mention that ‘The Informant’ has 2 other screenings listed in the guide / Vue listings which don’t appear on the official BFI page. He says this is because they’re sold out. I then pointed out that all the other shows that are sold out are still viewable, but he pretty much just went ‘Hmmm...’ down the phone.
I wish I’d got his name and complained.
normally I've found the staff friendly and helpful
if rather disorganised
Yeah me too
I imagine in about an hours time when I've calmed down I'll just be pissed that their site has been on the blink for a day or so, meaning I missed out on 3 of the 4 films I wanted to see.
So what's everybody enjoyed so far?
Saw 'White Material' which was excellent, 'A Single Man' which was very good if not quite as emotionally charged as some review suggested, plus Tom Ford and the cast were there and did a Q&A. Tom Ford looks incredibly good looking for someone in his late 40s. Botox, I know.
Cold Souls was pretty good, got a bit daft towards the end and not enough Emily Watson for my liking.
New todd solondz tonight = win.
Well I couldn't get tickets for a few of the ones I wanted to
So thus far, have only seen one flick called 'Double Take'. It was advertised as a clever look at the role of doubles in Hitchcock films, but that must have been a 'McGuffin'.
Total and utter toss, reminded me why I stopped doing fine art in favour of graphic design. Just shit loads of slo-mo, handheld grainy video camera footage, a script written by a depressed 6th form Art School kid, nonsensical storyline and 70 minutes of Getty archive images of Cold War goings on. It's a dull art house gallery short film stretched out to last 85 minutes.
Dull. Dull. Dull.
