This is insane. Even if Piquet never gets another drive he must be laughing right now. More in a minute...
But even with the tapes and stuff, I never thought they'd admit to it like this. Renault are surely going to pull out now, which means the BMW (in their new Qadbak form) will get a guaranteed slot.
And what about Alonso? I really hope he didn't know anything. It'd be such a waste for him to get caught up in this.
But as Autosport pointed out, that's unlikely to happen as the charges are brought against the team, not the 2 individuals.
Such a shame. I went on 2 placements to that team. I chatted to Pat briefly a couple of times in the lunch queue. Always seemed a decent guy. As with Stepney & Coughlan, it goes to show how a couple of moments of madness can end up with massive consequences.
I just hope they don't close the team down - that is, neither the FIA or Renault. That's 650 people employed between the UK and French (engine) divisions. All because of a couple of people going a bit machiavellian to get a win....shocking.
But they'd have to get rid of them after the verdict anyhow, so it'll look better at least to do it now.
and radio stuff. He doesn't seem like the kind of person. It's just complete madness, why would they do that, how could it possibly be worth it? And why would Piquet be so willing to potentially injure himself, all of them to potentially injure others etc. It makes me angry.
Really glad it's claimed Briatore though. His comments on Piquet's personal life angered me as much as this cheating did.
Sorry, I've not been following it all that closely
that Piquet was gay and in a relationship with a 50 year old man, and that at his fathers request Briatore moved him to London and stopped him from seeing this guy. Whether it's true or not, it was one of those moments of complete disbelief, where you realise someone is more detestable than you thought possible.
Guess he was trying to cause a rift between Piquet and Snr, or else he was just being a jerk.
no wai. That's rather malicious to say the least
This is completely damaging, but then, if they pull out now, this will be their legacy. If they were to stay on it probably would seem less damaging in the future.
Engineer a crash big enough to bring on the safety car but not dangerous enough to fuck you up?
But yeah, stupid thing for Piquet to do. And as much as he should have refused, he was young, impressionable, desperate and acting under the orders of his bosses.
The reason the safety car came out was that Renault had twigged that if they did it there, there would be no cranes in the area to remove the car, pretty much guaranteeing a safety car.
parts of the car coming off etc, especially at a circuit like Singapore, the crash would be more likely to hurt another driver than Piquet. Imagine if an accident like Massa's happened there, surely Renault would be guilty of much worse.
But the one thing you can say about this accident is that if you look at it, the way that piquet crashes it means that it was on the opposite side of the track to the racing line (meaning he was well out the way), and that most of the car debris is contained between the car and the wall
Just makes me so angry that someone would crash, especially in a race and a street track, on purpose. Any other kind of race fixing would be despicable, but one where you putting even a small risk on the safety of drivers is completely unforgivable.
... Massa's accident happened at a high speed part of the track, this didn't. Reprehensible and dangerous, but to compare to a freak accident is slightly OTT.
ultimately, even at slow speeds, part of a car coming off can be catastrophic. It rarely is, but it can be. And I can't comprehend why any sane person could allow something like that to go ahead.
Should have been a life ban for anyone who knew about this. Symonds is pretty much unemployable by the looks of it, and fortunately Piquet had pretty much driven himself out of a job anyway, so hopefully they won't get jobs in the future despite their immunity.
for the post-BMW team. That combined with these Qadbak investors means it's looking really bad for Nick's career. And if Renault go, then it's even worse :-(
I think a lot of these new teams will primarily be looking for drivers bringing sponsorship deals, or people who are tied in with existing sponsors / nationalities / engine suppliers.
Heidfeld probably has the most out of all the current drivers...

It kinda freaks me out?
And whenever a thread about them pops up once in a blue moon I say as much. Once or twice maybe within the thread.
But I don't mention it EVERY time a generic pop thread comes up or spend 11 posts replying to myself about it...?
And so when there's an F1 thread, I'll probably mention him. You know when there's a football thread, people usually post news and discussions about the team they support. It's exactly the same as that.
But why does every F1 thread always come back to him?
I know he's a pretty good driver. And I also know that you really, really like him. But I just don't get why you feel the need to say as much 20+ times in each and every thread about anything to do with the sport.
It comes across as either a bit:
1. (I use this word reluctantly) 'jaggy' (eg. you know him and are biased)
2. Unhealthily obsessed about the guy.
3. A one woman crusade people have given up on. I mean, it's hard to change people's minds up about something as it is, let alone when you repeatedly hammer home a point.
I find your threads about the sport very worthwhile and you obviously know far more about it than me.
I just don't get quite why they always morph into Heidfeld love-ins, that's all.
On offense meant
I like talking about him, and a lot of people have very wrong opinions concerning him, and need correcting.
Well you carry on then, and ignore the subsequent juvenile replies I'll no doubt leave afterwards saying things like:
'nymeria and Heidfeld sitting in a tree....'
I'm off to talk about Southend's lack of reserves in the football thread.
I'm sure nymeria keeps popping up in threads about Biffy Clyro and Warren Ellis too.
Is Flav about fifty, or Mosley... do you think this is some huge gay lovers tiff...involving courts and the FIA as well?
Note to self, never cross Max.
Bad news for QPR :(
Actually was it QPR who suposedly had a gypsy curse on the grounds...?
But Alonso, trouble follows him around, Maclaren last year, Renault this year, the mere speculation of moving to Ferrari put a sping into Massa's skull, he's a Jonah! He'll move to Brawn and Jensen's car will blow up, guaranteed!
up the race weekends anymore. shame.
