Does anyone buy the conspiracy?
but this is possibly the hammiest thing I've ever seen. Oliver Stone is such a joke.
I can't see one at all, I can see that the film is a bit hammy.
The Comedian shot him from the grassy knoll - everybody knows that - and Stone never touched on it once! Outrageous!!
He's a bit of a joke.
He was a great film maker. He may still be but I think JFK is the most recent one of his films I've seen.
Even Platoon, which I quite like, was full of ham-fisted metaphor. To be honest, I'm not *totally* sure what I'm basing this opinion on, but I'm nonetheless totally convinced of it.
Worse even, than Brian Da Palma.
but did anyone answer the question why the presidents brain went missing after he was dead?
I mean, yeah it's a stupid joke and not very funny but I'd have thought at least someone would've given me a little smiley face.
was another thread, by you, asking how to not appear so serious on the internet.
five inches in diameter is somewhat puzzling.
Penn and Teller did an episode about it. They were quite convincing. Now I realize they didn't explain this particular fact away. Are they, too, complicit?
"Oh, they blew Rotten Ronnie's head off?"
"Oh, well. Fetch me a toffee. M'stories are on the telly."
They'd probably have instigated forty years of mourning in America, but I think the rest of the world would have soldiered on.
They don't inspire people like that. No one would take a conspiracy seriously because conspiracies are things the right wing do to the left wing. That's not to say they actually exist but the world is set such that this is how it is.
Look at how hard the Republican Party and the right wing press in general has worked over the years to make out Regan was the one who ended the Cold War. When it happened it was Gorbachev who was seen ultimately as the man who made the change happen but 25 years later they've managed to just about make Regan look good. Back then he'd have just been seen as an unfortunate man.
even though most of the stuff in the film isnt based on anything factual and most of it is just made up for the sake of a good movie. There was a good doc on bbc2 ages ago which kind of disproved everything surrounding the conspiracy.
The most powerful nation on Earth. It's a shock to the system to have to re-learn, every ten years or so, that they're subject to the same forces of chaos and random as everything else on Earth. Hence the reaching for convoluted explanations. The internet hasn't helped.
Not to be confused with the documentary I watched on bbc2 ages ago about the same subject, that was a completely biased, one-sided, cherry-picking whitewash then?
So, anyone out there that questions the official explanation on any earth-shattering event is automatically a 'conspiracy-theorist nutjob' and should just shut the fuck up cos' like, the world is black and white, there's only goodies and baddies and our governments always tell the truth, yes? - this seems to be the general DiS rhetoric on conspiracies right? pack.of.cowardly.wolves.
But I think a lot of the JFK stuff has a good deal of substance to it. Sixty-plus independent witnesses testified they heard a gunshot coming from the front of the motorcade. A woman who informed police two days before the assassination that Kennedy was going to be killed was found dead beside a highway a few months later, an apparent hit and run, killer unknown.
Zapruder film. Slow mo.
and just the way life is has made me think there isn't one.
That said, JFK is still an amazingly powerful piece of filmmaking. The 'one-sided' argument isn't really worth holding for this since it's really the story of a man who believed in the conspiracy so it has no requirement to be even handed.
A lot of fact is mixed up with myth so it gets hard to separate one from the other as the film goes on.
I think there's definitely something crooked about the whole thing. What, I don't know. Someone out there knows for certain whether the whole thing really is a conspiracy or not, though. My instinct tells me he probably was snuffed by sinister powers, but I ain't got a clue as to the reasons why.
is that George HW Bush had something to do with the assassination of JFK.
There is intricate evidence relating to business fallout from the Bay of Pigs episode which is too long to go into, then there is simple stuff like him claiming not to remember where he was on the day JFK died. Now, this would make him one of the few people in the world who didn't recall, but it was later proven he was in DALLAS on the day of JFK's death.
There's even an (admittedly grainy) pic outside the Book Depository that some say shows him milling around outside
The funny thing is, when they were talking about Ted Kennedy's funeral arrangements a few weeks ago I was thinking 'how awkward would that be for Poppy Bush to sit there at the funeral of the guy whose brother he may have had a hand in bumping off'. A few days later, he announces he won't be attending, making him the only living president not to be in attendance. Bearing in mind he makes a sky dive to mark his birthday every year, ill health is not exactly an issue here.
Anyway, I'm not saying he was definitely involved, but I would certainly suggest there were never enough questions asked about it.
and was given a 404 Error message. Which while a totally innocent coincidence did freak me out for a second.
You got any links?
which are generally bonkers. This gives the gist of it pretty well:
There's no "back and to the left. Back and to the left. Back and to the left," bullshit in there.
