Why are vampires suddenly so in vogue?
It's ridiculous. We've got:
Being Human
Twilight
True Blood
Twilight - The Movie
Let The Right One In
The Vampire Diaries
and a friend told me there's a possibility they might be remaking Dracula, Interview With The Vampire and LTROI, plus, adapting some more of the 30 Days Of Night books. Not to mention the Twilight films yet to come.
Like with the zombie craze which swept movies a few years back - 28 Days Later, Dawn Of The Dead, Shaun Of The Dead, Land Of The Dead...I guess in their own way each one was saying something about society (apologies if that sounds a bit wanky) but I don't really get this new vampire fad. Is it something to do with our growing fear of the outsider, something along those lines? Or is it just because Hollywood follows the money, and the money right now is in fangs and frantic frolics?
But if so, why are we, the people, so interested in them again? It's not even like we're into the proper, bloodsucking, cold-blooded, old-skool vampires of lore (True Blood excepted) - It's these whining Anne Rice types with more emotions than Prozac addict in withdrawal. Help me get to the bottom of this, people.
