Fact-o-rama 10/9/09

lemonbrickcombo [Edit] [Delete] 15:23, 10 September '09

Related to the 'City of Culture' thread. Less of a fact and more of a "I wish it was true"

Do you know why a sirloin steak is thus named?

It is often thought that James I had such a fantastic steak dinner one night in Chorley that he drunkenly knighted the piece of meat. Unfortunately it's more likely to come from the old french word 'surlonge' which means above the loin.

That's a bit boring though. I prefer drunken meat knighting.
