i've lost it. do i have to pay for a new one?
and why can't my card bit be good enough?
Put that in your exhaust pipe and smoke it.
irish licences eh?!
its not that hard to work out really is it?
then I found it. You'll find yours. I bet you put it in a really safe place. I just booked my practical test. Should be driving before Christmas.
Stop trying to be funny, Theo
I work at the DVLA in swansea, I'm actually sat here testing the portal used by the plebs to order replacements/duplicates etc as I type
You do need to pay for a replacement paper copy (about £20 I think)
License is the verb in this country.
Wow, you were missed.
where do i need to go to reorder it? tomorrow, after i ransack my cupboard. i've a sneaking suspicion i threw it out though
She just needs you to process it.
Get to work!
what is with your current learning-to-drive thing?
plus i want to go to america and rent a car and drive around the place posing
I am enbarrassed to be 27 and not driving, plus it will open up loads of job opps.
Any job with driving in the requirement is shitter than a job without, surely?
Some jobs are split between sites/have to visit places f'in miles from train stations. Driving is so much better. Except having to be THAT person who always drives back from festivals when everyone else is asleep.
Work put on a cab service to get me to the Basildon office from the train station but I don't have to go there if I don't want to.
Jobs that involve driving usually involve you doing 8-10 hour days as they take advantage of your mobility to make you drag your sorry ass around loads of offices. While you're driving you can't read anything nor can you deal with a mountain of emails that build up and you have to then action in your own time at home because otherwise you've fucked up your job.
Basically it's a one-way ticket to hell. ONE OFFICE, ONE DESK, ONE VISION (guitar solo by Brian May).
I took a nice drive home through the countryside in the sunshine while not having to bother thinking about emails. Now I'm sat at home for the rest of the day working, in my shorts and t-shirt. I have the joy of listening to Akron Family instead of Pam the secretary.
ONE MAN, ONE SOFA, ONE CUP OF TEA (lyrics by Half Man, Half Biscuit)
I'm failing to a) see your point and b) why you hate driving and cars?
Well apart from the fact that more than about an hour in a car seat is usually pretty uncomfortable.
I just don't like the idea of commuting to work by car and don't really see how it can improve a job at all.
I live 8 miles from the office and it takes me 30-40 mins. If I didn't drive I would have to take TWO trams which would take 90 mins and cost £8 a day. Or I could take two buses taking nearly 2 hours. Or I could cycle it but it's usually raining and I've yet to come up with a design for a useable umbrella for cyclists. BUT I'M TRYING.
I wasn't talking about EVERYONE when I said I couldn't see a job improving with driving I was talking about people who live in London like me and Sarah.
Still the fact remains that you're talking about a job you have where you drive to it. If you had a job that was only the one train journey away that took 30 mins so you could listen to music or read or both, would that be better?
And if my information is correct doesn't Starshaped work in Crawley?
"I just don't like the idea of commuting to work by car and don't really see how it can improve a job at all." - at no point did you say that you were just talking about London, how was I supposed to know you just meant London like you and Sarah?
using the word 'me' in there.
I thought it would have been pretty obvious but clearly it wasn't (not meant to be sarky, by the way).
You're still really looking at it the wrong way. The point isn't about whether you are right now near to a good public transport system. IF you were would you prefer to just go to your job via that method and not have to fuck around with driving?
wouldn't have to actually deal with the rubbish yourself.
I could apply for a job that is further away, not a job that involves driving!
where you'll be unable to do anything except listen to music or the radio while your posture is destroyed and your arse numbed by the utter shitness that is a car seat.
if I'm getting paid £15k - £20k more!!!!!
here, have a tenner, on me x
Interestingly I just calculated my hourly rate based on the requirement I only do 35 hours a week. If I moved to a job that required 40 hours a week I'd need a 6 grand pay rise just to cover the extra time in my life it was costing me. That's not even factoring extra time spent travelling.
especially when my younger brother has a full licence!
She had a go on my dad's car in an empty car park the other week and was too weak to take the handbrake off.
i like this.
In Manchester everyone I knew with a car had had it molested at some stage.
This was when I was at university so maybe it was just because student areas and the uni were targetted but seriously, everyone's car had been broken into or vandalised at least once.
what do you need it for anyway? if it's for car-hire or something then they can just phone the DVLA to check you've got the right entitlements/any points/whatever (though you'll usually get charged for this).
Ask for a new one then you can upload it into your iphone.
Srsly you have a paper one cos that holds points information on it....this is a good thing because otherwise the card licence would have to have a chip in it that would record the points...and people in the UK would not like that cos its too big brotherish for our liking i would have though
It's in the filing cabinet to the left of me, i knew that much, but could I remember which envelope it was in?! Could I fuck.
Long story short, I found it *blows raspberry*
You get get a replacement here
Also, so everyone is aware, you should also make sure that the address shown on your licence is the same as your current address. You are breaking the law if this is not the case, and it is free to change your address on your licence online using the above link
I've been meaning to change my address.
