Charity Events You Took Part In Last Weekend

Reckoning [Edit] [Delete] 15 replies 14:58, 3 September '09

I hiked/ran/cycled 50km of Cairgorm mountain and surrounding area last weekend for Barnardo's. I did it in just over 4 hours and was 3rd. My team was 1st overall (average completion time) and we've thus far raised around £1500 for the charity. Next year DiS should enter a team.

So, which charity event did you partake in over the weekend?

    Reckoning this'd this
  • I've never understood that kind of fundraising

It seems kind of stupid really. Asking people for money as part of doing something enjoyable for yourself seems a little strange. And it must have taken quite a lot of money to organise, so basically just makes the whole thing pointless.

    • £100 per team?!

So basically, you're asking people for money so they can fund you doing something enjoyable for yourself, before funding charity. Figures.

    • I happen to agree with the mouse on this.

    • Surely you're missing the point a little, no?

An event like this requires organisation to enable it to run smoothly and safely. Such organisation will invariably cost, unless you want the event to be shit. It was more enjoyable because of the way the event was managed.

Also, yeah i could have just done the event on my own, but then again it would have been a bit boring and i wouldn't have got a medal or a bbq.

Finally how is it pointless if thousands of pounds were raised for chairty (the point of the event).

Finally finally, DiS is fucking slow at the minute.

  • I’m really more of a taker from society

Last weekend I mooned some children from a moving stationwagon, painted a spunky cock on Boris Johnson’s front lawn and started a tyre fire that took three days to extinguish.

I think that was about £1600 of damage. You wouyld have had to do a couple more kms just to cancel this out.

  • I went to watch Millwall vs Southend

    In essence, a charity event.
